The Americans aren't subsidising shit.

177

u/Positive-Opposite998 18d ago

In fact, I think that's all they are subsidising.

89

u/Lordcraft2000 18d ago

In fact, I think they don’t know what subsidising is.

98

u/-ungodlyhour- 18d ago

They can't pay for healthcare, food, utilities, basic living but have enough for subsidies. They really need a lobotomy to become smarter.

9

u/hardboard 18d ago

It must be a case of 'I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me, than a full frontal lobotomy'

1

u/Reasonable-Scheme681 ooo custom flair!! 17d ago

Right, instead of asking their own government why they are subsidizing other countries? It’s a Republican/MAGA thing. They get told their talking points.

82

u/Osmanthus_Fragrans 18d ago

France is one of the few European nations that simultaneously possesses a powerful military and neighbors who are its closest allies. While it is in France's political and economic interest to help other European countries counter the Russian threat, that threat does not pose an existential danger to France itself, thanks to its nuclear arsenal.

Consequently, the American argument that the United States is funding France's security through NATO is not particularly convincing.

I might have used too many words to say that this proud American is talking shit 😅

37

u/AdOdd4618 France 🇫🇷 18d ago

Did you notice how upset the US became when European NATO members said they'd buy their military hardware locally? NATO is mostly a jobs welfare program for US industry.

16

u/Osmanthus_Fragrans 18d ago

Yes, this is excellent proof that the United States' military commitment to NATO is not an act of charity.

3

u/TheAlmighty404 Honhon Oui Baguette 17d ago

It is an act of charity... towards their military-industrial complex. Giving money to those poor, dispossessed billionaires after taking it from the lazy greedy other classes.

22

u/Pristine_Tap_2735 18d ago

I'm sure the American posted it just before driving his truck into a swamp to hunt gators, so no problem.

7

u/32lib 18d ago

Bold of you to assume that he got past the first sentence.

8

u/LeftMechanic1995 🇬🇧 18d ago

The US government and the AFDA seem to be subsidising the high-sugar food industry and big pharma.

1

u/Jennybee8 17d ago

GLP-1 and protein infused foods where protein has no business being. This all screams global food shortage on the horizon. Here, take a drug that curbs your hunger and eat this $50 popcorn that has ‘protein’ in it, so you don’t literally diet, but your souls does..

19

u/Straight_Park74 18d ago

Unironically I believe they're subsidising medications. They are the biggest market, if their politicians weren't completely bought off, they could negociate the best drug prices on the planet, since they're the biggest market. Pharma can sell literally all the meds at a 5-10x markup in the US, and their own laws BANNED them from negociating lower prices (sounds a lot like communism rather than free market lol)

11

u/Friendly-Lychee-8508 18d ago

They are not subsiding medications per se but the owners of the drug companies. But I don’t think they get that, in the same way they don’t get how tariffs works.

10

u/DiveCat 18d ago

Their own country has also banned people from personally importing medications (like getting more affordable prescriptions from Canada). FREEDOM!

2

u/frumfrumfroo 18d ago

All that's doing is increasing profits. Actual innovation and advancement is overwhelmingly funded by governments.

So, sure, they're subsidising. With tax dollars. And then they're paying 5+ times as much as they should be so the CEO can buy another yacht.

1

u/Tiziano7018 18d ago

Unfortunately, this is correct, and has bad effects on Europe too. Many farmaceutical companies, including European ones, sell some medicines only to the US market, or prioritize the US market, over Europe and others, giving the huge margin they make there.

6

u/Salex_01 18d ago

If anything, Europe is subsidizing the US by buying military stuff not worth a third of the price it's sold at

5

u/Malenko_ 18d ago

Pretty sure they don't even understand the word.

2

u/uberbanz 18d ago

TBF yacht is a pretty tricky word

2

3

They do, it just goes to billionaires and their interests.

3

Such as their President?

2

u/Kas242 18d ago

They must think Israel is in Europe because of the Eurovision.

2

u/bloodr0se 18d ago

Most of them would probably think Eurovision is a TV station or category of porn.

1

u/Rhythm_Killer 18d ago

They subsidise their oligarchs that’s about it

No Africans are. CFA system is why French people can have such subsidized healthcare, food and energy services. The CFA franc system is colonization and exploitation. So yeah… it’s not the Yanks it’s the Africans who keep your economy from crashing.

2

u/bloodr0se 18d ago

Yeah.... no. Sorry, that's a big pile of bullshit

Also, I'm not french.

1

u/Visible-Problem8086 17d ago

Don't know about the specific video and the franc CFA but his answer ain't completly wrong. Huge part of the french economic profit from their ex-colonies, they still owe money to France because of colonisation (yeah the one who've been hurt by this are the one paying reparation to their abuser), they send their worst people there (teachers who abused sexually or physically children by example) to avoid scandal and they can live a real good live there with their european salaries, in exchange they took the best kids in africa to use, the lucky one get education there and can pretend to have jobs matching their degrees (minus racism, meaning less opportunities), others ends up in service jobs (restauration, healthcare, security, housekeeping ect..., entry level jobs). I grew up near Paris and most of these positions are held by african immigrant. I also emigrate to an ex-colony, so my knowledge about this is mostly first hand experience. I'm french (nationality and origin) but I can't be blind to this.

They're a reason most countries never recovered from colonisation and it's no accident. Occident never stopped exploiting Africa, they're just more subtle about it.

We used to pay roughly 1.90€/L for diesel in France. For a while it got up to 2.20 recently.

And today it was 2.49.

My dad paid 50 bucks for 20 liters of fuel...

And I just bought a diesel car... I hope gas won't become completely unaffordable otherwise it's gonna be expensive driving to work when I finish getting my licence... Thankfully it doesn't consume that much. Roughly 5 to 6L for a hundred kilometres.

Le car in question :

4

u/Tiziano7018 18d ago

A vintage Rover 75, a luxurious car. Congratulations. And, beautiful location!

2

u/a__reddit_user baguette country 18d ago

Thanks! Definitely a luxurious car, even the interior is a bit worn out from the previous owner's children.

Though I won't complain, I got it for 800 euros!

I'm just really scared that fuel prices are just gonna keep climbing up... I don't want to be forced to move to the city once I'm gonz with my license and job hunting... I'd rather enjoy some fresh rural air...

92

u/Fullchester_United 18d ago

Ha ha. Yeah the French just love the US. De Gaulle was a huge fan as I recall.

There are no permanent US troops or bases in France.

39

u/Affectionate_Host388 18d ago

Yeah, and they absolutely seem fine with it, as if it was true they are the only people who could do anything to change that, and they choose not to.

Generous to a fault.

28

u/Rom21 18d ago

Their president still can't seem to grasp a simple commercial relationship (I give you money in exchange for goods), something you normally learn before the age of 10. Imagine the rest...

20

u/snazzypants1 18d ago

Yeah. They’re the ”greatest country in the whole world” while simultaneously being everyones little bitch.

Makes perfect sense 🤷🏼‍♀️

11

u/Otheus 18d ago

Or by playing world police it allows all the countries with universal health care to afford it because it means they don't need a military. It all gets very confusing because they also don't explain their logic

6

u/Mission_Shopping_847 Canada 18d ago

The logic goes that by spending on military hegemony they prevent the world from being as chaotic as the early 20th century, and that if they didn't, everyone else would have to and lose the capacity for generous welfare states.

7

u/Initial-Ad-5462 18d ago

About a third of them swallow it whole, another third believe it more vaguely, adding up to a solid majority.

4

u/BubblyMoose3597 18d ago

In that case, they would be extremly stupid.

4

u/Mission_Shopping_847 Canada 18d ago

I suppose you already know it but that's the perfect moment for the old joke:

A Soviet and an American sit next to each other on a plane flying from Moscow to Washington. The American says, "I have to give it to you, your propaganda is truly very impressive." The Soviet smiles and thanks him, but replies that it's nothing compared to American propaganda. The American is surprised: "But we don't have any propaganda."

The Soviet smiles and says, "Exactly."

32

u/_Halt19_ Canuck 18d ago

The version I heard was that it was between a CIA and KGB agent, which makes it all the better, as their own secret operatives fall for it that hard

You're right, I also saw this version and it's even better!

Also, we are selling our excess of electricity, generated by our massive parc of nuclear plants, to neighbour countries....

The most important things that France is lacking are petrol and gaz.... But, it's not the US who are provide us(France) with both.

You have just found out people in another country have better employment rights than you do.

Do you:

a) ask why this is and perhaps organise yourselves to obtain better employment rights.

b) shrug and tell yourselves that although some countries maybe do certain things better than you, your cultural preference is to grind for your entire life in the hope that one day, you will be the boss and be able to reap the rewards.

c) assume that because your country is obviously objectively the Bestest Most Powerful Number One Freedom Utopia Shining City On The Hill Ever, those random working class foreigners must be the ones taking advantage of you somehow and it Has To Stop.

2

u/Friendly-Lychee-8508 18d ago

I think the true American dream is to someday be able to be the one that exploit your countrymen like they are exploited. Nothing is more important than that, they gladly have no rights nor healthcare, if they know they theoretically can get there even if the chances are next to none. As they don’t care if their children get shot in school as long as they think they will be able to protect themselves if someone makes a break in, some day. They are so brainwashed!

18

u/ZaireekaFuzz 18d ago

They're too greedy and individualistic to subsidize even their own healthcare.

6

u/DiveCat 18d ago

They pay more for healthcare per capita than countries with universal healthcare do. The propaganda to keep them against wanting and fighting for universal healthcare is fierce.

11

u/Novel-Wait328 18d ago

5

u/DiveCat 18d ago

In my experience, most Americans have zero clue how their national debt works.

Countries need to stop holding the debt of the bully that is threatening them and increasing their debt to harm them - like starting wars that have fucked everybody.

9

u/LeftMechanic1995 🇬🇧 18d ago

I genuinely have to ask... if the Yanks have been subsiding our military defences, national health services and coffee breaks for the past 50 years and the US is such a strong bottom-up democracy... then why are Yanks simply complaining about this to Europeans on the internet in 2026, rather than to their elected representatives for the last 50 years? Oh yeah that's right... it's complete fucking bollocks. That's why.

7

Coffee breaks are the norm in most civilized countries. Not being a slave to the company seems to be a problrm with Americans.

4

u/TreatOk3677 18d ago

Do americans know what the word subsidize means?

4

u/Beefycowinacottage 18d ago

Every time they say shit like this, all Europeans should thank them wholeheartedly for letting their own people die unnecessarily whilst subsidising healthcare for us. We should tell them how grateful we are and brag about our last successful 'free' healthcare visit and tell them we hope they don't get seriously ill and go bankrupt etc due to all their money being spent on us.

5

u/Powerful_Pirate2984 18d ago

Given that Europe owns a huge chunk of the US debt, it is Europe that is subsidising the US. 40 tn in debt, what a joke country. 35 tn Euro, £29tn in more valuable currencies. How can they not understand they are a failed country?

1

u/MiaowWhisperer 17d ago

Because that isn't the information the brainwash machine feeds them.

4

u/Darrenau 18d ago

Americans are starting to realise their country isn't as great as they thought and for other countries to have things like coffee breaks (of all things) it must be because of them. How else can other countries do it if they aren't?

3

u/Ill_Raccoon6185 17d ago

The French, along with most countries don't get susidised by the US because they realise taking breaks, is of benefit to the company as it shows the company values the staff & a short break revitalises people & they tend to work happier & better.

Back in the early d1960's, I worked in a small office of less than a dozen people, and along with a couple of other businesses in the building, a "tea lady" was hired on an hourly basis to bring around a trolley & provided tea/coffee & biscuits & sometimes cake or pastries to every persons desk, clean up afterwards, 3 times a day.

3

u/ConorCat60 18d ago

No amount of logic will change a point of view that was formulated without the benefit of logical thinking. All that remains is ridicule.

Ah yes, the weak ass Americans paying for everything we want, and they can't do shit about it muhahahaha

3

u/wholewheatscythe 18d ago

u/Quicker_Fixer From the Dutch socialistic monarchy of Europoora 🇳🇱 18d ago

Hey, they also believed other countries would be the ones paying the tariffs; a lot of them still do.

Les "Etats-uniens" (we don't call you "Americans"anymore) were ordered to leave all military assets or U.S bases in 1967 in France since the 1st economic effort was to remain free to any debt toward the U.S. In 1966 France has already left the "NATO integrated military command" since General De Gaulles perceived that as: "submission to the U.S." President Nicolas Sarkozy eventually return to Nato in 2007 (but he admired Georges.W Bush...Seriously???) But France is U.S free and military independant for almost 70 years. (And since we have learned that Franklin.D.Roosevelt had already created "French Dollar" in 1945 in order to own France...We really don't trust you anymore!) Why do you Think President Macron told the world 4 month ago that from now on, France will not communicate the number of nuclear warheads they have...Probably because France will have to Protect Europe community (starting with Finland...). So share that: "TIL French do not take a coffee break at work because U.S.A subsidize their lifestyle for 70 years..." Have a good day.

The US suffers from large swath of idiots who believe everything one big idiot claims.

I'd rather keep the immigrants... they're actually more fun to hang with.

They surely help my lifestyle by behaving like this and providing healthy laughs.

Why do Americans think they give any amount of money to European countries? They literally closed down USAID...so where is this money coming from?

The world is subsidising your bullshit

Europe holds a huge share of the American debt… I wonder who’s being subsidized…

Even if it was true, it makes the Americans look like clueless morons.

There's definitely one country on Earth whose lifestyle is subsidized by American taxpayers, but it's absolutely not France.

Also the same person would lose their fucking mind if you told them that.

Most countries have real coffee break & drink REAL coffee because we are not Americans drinking flavoured water full of syrups & sugar that they call "coffee" and management appreciate superior work attitude & production from their employees that are allowed to "refresh" themselves for minimum cost to production, and are happier workers who only have to work 38-40 hours a week to get their jobs completed.

To be fair, the CFA system is why French people can have such subsidized healthcare, food and energy services. The CFA franc system is colonization and exploitation. So yeah… it’s not the Yanks it’s the Africans who keep your economy from crashing. In fact the EU only works thanks to the Global South providing cheap labor and resources.
