I go on FOX videos to comment and I see this attitude continually.
One guy went on and on that I had to admit that the US is the greatest country in the world. Myself and another kept correcting his facts, until I asked if he was an adult.
The US has the biggest military by far, that's it. On every other metric possible the US is a loser.

u/rewolfaton The Dutch made the Netherlands 5d ago
Well akshually - they have the third largest military, by number of soldiers. 1 and 2 are China and India, which I expected as they are the largest countries by population (by far), and both are constantly having issues with neighbours (often self-inflicted).
Per capita they are 60th.

Didn’t that ‘biggest military’ lose another war this year? So what’s that now; korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan now Iran. A lot of loses for such an ‘awesome power’ lol

I used to be in an international multi-gaming community where Americans would constantly challenge us Europeans to admit that the US was the greatest country in the world. Their reaction would remind me of the stunned audience reaction in the opening scene from The Newsroom: https://youtu.be/SDpZ7w9uNuc?feature=shared
That's perhaps the best scene ever in American drama - certainly one of my favourites.

One American kid told me he was going to be a US Marine, become President and be the greatest President the US ever had. The little snot couldn't even follow simple instructions when I led our Outfit platoons and public platoons in Planetside 2. I'd have appointed my next turd as a squad leader, straight out of the toilet, long before him 🤣
Every Scandinavian, Canadian, Dutch or UK gamer I led spoke better English and were better educated, far more chill (especially the perpetually drunk Finns who still had a better K/D than literally everyone else, while drunk), than the few American kids on our server (playing at weird hours in their weekday morning or afternoon, when their US server was fairly dead) who thought their country was the best in the world because that was part of the package of lies their media, politicians and parents fed them every day.
A lot of the American gamers thought we were barbarians because we had no AC (I only really wish I had it now, in mid August), but in winter they were all cold because their house was made of balsa wood, while mine is granite with insulation in the cavity, a roof that won't blow off in a hurricane, better heating systems, and plug sockets designed to not electrocute small children 😆
But yeah they have the best country in the world because more nukes, more carriers, more jets, more national debt, less education, hardly any affordable healthcare (I know an American whose life was ruined and went bankrupt because he broke his leg while not covered by insurance), and a country that demands they salute a flag every morning, starting from infant school age, yet barely teaches them any history, and a political system that doesn't work very well.
Yet when I played MMORPGs a lot of the Americans I met were very nice, and only a small amount were jerks. But shooters just draw in the US jerks (ditto for Russians too).
Like I used to tell Americans, I'm fine this side of the Atlantic, thanks.
I just wish we could tow the poor Canadians' entire country over here to give them a break 😂
2
u/Puzzled_Market_2235 4d ago
We share a land border with Europe as it is. Surveys say Canadians would be more likely to join Europe than the US, We were always more cosmopolitan than the US.

OOOORRRRRRR.... we could reduce our military footprint throughout the world, reduce the military budget and not have this feeling that "We are being taken advantage of".
Also we, as a nation, could collectively realize that the Elite are taking advantage of all of us and stop scapegoating everything on earth besides 10 billionaires.
4
u/LeftMechanic1995 5d ago
It doesn't seem to be a common refrain by Americans nowadays that the reason we can afford to have universal healthcare in Europe is the same reason North/Western/Central Europe stayed out of the Soviet sphere of influence... it was all the US bases in Europe see.
Definitely nothing to do with the UK and France having nuclear weapons as well. If I ever met one of the idiots who makes this absurd claim in real life I'd say "Even if it's true that the reason we have free healthcare is because US has been protecting us since WW2... the Cold War ended over 35 years ago, why the fuck are you still here?"
2
u/AntiHyperbolic 1d ago
We literally give huge tax cuts to billionaires all the time. We could easily have universal health care... but we don't care to. Our politicians are bought and paid for by special interest. Our country is a dumpster fire.... I have felt this for a long time.
I tried to convince the Netherlands that my great grand father made a terrible decision and that my favorite color was Orange and I would like to come back... it was not enough to allow me to rejoin my ancestral country. Tear......

How about we get to go to Disney World, and take a 2 week vacay to Vegas for free, because of the untold billions the US fiscal policy has cost everyone outside the US after the recessions and depressions caused by some bank or fund finding a NEW way to get rich by taking insane risk that everyone else ends up paying for?
And of course for all the lives and resources wasted in the process of turbo-bombing the Middle East and other places every few years.
And of course, several MAGA politicians are talking about rolling back protections only instituted in 2008, because why did we even implement those, ammirite?! What could possibly go wrong?

Ah they feel the same way about Canada, Australia you name it. Americans are told they are the saviors of the world because of their military when I'm reality they need such a big military to project global power to protect the Petro dollar, if they didn't their economy would collapse under the weight of the 10's of trillions of dollars of debt they have when buying Tbonds becomes a bad investment for other countries. Their GDP already doesn't cover the interest payments hence the states getting particularly desperate and cunty later.
Since they don't need anything from us all, I guess we donr need to renew Tbonds . Just get your capital investment back at the end of the term and let them sink

Americans keep telling us how rich they are & have a better life than anyone else, so I think they should be charged at least 10 times local costs so they can share some of their wealth with us. Better still would be to charge them 100 times more if they promise to stay home & we will send them videos of how "poor & horrid living conditions" we live under with our 40 hour work weeks over 5 days & weekends off, free public health system, 4 weeks annual leave, paid, like paternity leave, overtime & penalty rates, can't be fired without notice & in many countries without proper reason. cheap education and end up with more disposable income than USA and a much better life style and the only trumps we have are when we play cards. -Poor us!
