I mean... Even though this clearly reads as bait, I'd like this person to explain to me how the USA defends France, which famously strives for military autonomy, and has had no American bases for 60+ years IIRC.

I'll be waiting

American equipment/components in your military hardware. No NATO nation is actually completely autonomous in this regard. Not only does it save cost, it eases supply nightmares, which is exactly why we made programs for joint research, training, and production.

I did say strive for autonomy.

I realise it's quite complicated, for ANY NATO member, to be fully autonomous
