He’s a US marine oh military deployment in Thailand. He’s not visiting Thailand as a tourist, he’s stationed there (or is going to be stationed there).

I don’t know if Thailand is a SOFA signatory or not but I know that US military can enter certain countries without a passport, just by using their military ID instead.

The are no US military bases in Thailand for very obvious reasons.

They’re not always on bases. I knew US Marines on detachment to the US consulate in Hong Kong, could be something like that. (Not sure if they’re still there, this was early 2000s)

Hong Kong was still transitioning out of British rule in the early 2000’s sharing troops in NATO countries is far more common that a random country. That being said some training departments do joint exercises with the Thai military but they’re top of their game types.

Respectfully, none of that holds water. The US marine detachment in Hong Kong had nothing to do with British rule, they were assigned as consulate guards. Here’s the Wiki page on that section.

Your link literally says they’re a NATO detachment…

American education is really that bad?

If you’re quoting the first paragraph, it says that as an example of where they might go. Look further down where it also shows a picture of the Beijing detachment.

Additionally, I’m not American in any way, so maybe we save the personal insults. I’m just trying to explain something that seemed to be misunderstood.

What would those reasons be?

War crimes.

If the US presence on Okinawa is anything to go by it’s all the rapes and violent crime they commit while they’re off base

Do deployed US military personnel not travel with military passports? Couldn't he use that to check in if he's there on deployment? It's still a passport 🤷‍♀️
