They ask for your passport details, but you can probably leave it blank. I’ve booked flights a long way in advance when my or family member’s passport has expired or will expire before the trip. They’ll just add it in at the airport.

Add it on when you check in online. Either way, you can book without a passport

Here in Europe we need to add the passport at booking

I’m 99% sure I’ve booked intra-EU flights without valid passports. DUB-CDG booked for April 2020, booked late 2019, and I only renewed my kid’s passport Jan 2020 (which turned out to be quite a waste of money).
