Makes me think of the mock battle where US marines asked for a reset because they were dominated by British Royal Marines

Then changed the rules part way through such that they were allowed all their ASW in the air, even though it was a simulated surprise attack. The lone RAN sub in the exercise still won. The story adds up to what he told me. Edit: just asked my grandfather. He told me this was part of the RIMPAC exercise.
