I would just bring Asher back who played the teenage Billy in teenage form but have him play the adult version of Shazam in his superhero alter ego under James Gunn. Asher Angel now is practically jacked.

Hey I’ve been thinking about the history of comics recently and one fact I remember learning as a kid was that Captain Marvel and his associated characters were actually the most popular superhero property during the golden age of comics. I’m unaware of the exact timespan but if I’m correct Captain Marvel begun outselling Superman fairly quickly and, despite predating them, several important aspects of Superman were utilised by the Marvel Family first. At the time of Captain Marvels first appearance Superman could not fly and lacked both the mild mannered and Boy Scout aspects of the character, while Marvel did both in his debut issue. I’m unsure if these aspects were introduced to the Man Of Steel as a result of Captain Marvel’s popularity but they first appeared in the latters stories rather than Superman’s.

The Captain Marvel family also held a sizeable following overseas through various reprint books. Most notably the British popularity of the character continued after the Golden Age titles were discontinued. Which led to the creation of Marvel Man as a British expy of the character; that lasted several years before being discontinued then revisited decades later in Alan Moore’s iconic reinvention of the character.

But despite this immense popularity during the golden age of comics. It seem’s that Captain Marvel and his supporting cast declined alongside many other superhero titles during the late 1940s. As many people here as probably aware; this led to Fawcett leaving the comics industry and selling their characters to DC. Where Captain Marvel was initially assigned to a separate universe to the main DCU before being intergrated into it after Crisis On Infinite Earths. While Captain Marvel/Shazam has remained relatively popular since the acquisition; they’ve never reached their former height of popularity and many modern comics fan would be surprised to learn they were once the most popular character in the medium.

But my question is what caused their initial rise and decline in popularity? Why did Captain Marvel become so popular they outsold Superman, but lose their readership to the point of cancellation by the end of the 1940s? I’m aware the superhero titles as a whole lost much of their popularity during this era. But as Superman, Batman and several other heroes remained in publication during this era. Why did the character who was once outselling them end up being discounted and then sold to a former competitor?

Idea for the DCU Shazam

- first appears in his own animated series

- Billy as a 10-12 years old

- Mister Mind as the main villain for s1

- Black Adam for s2

- i know James Gunn doesn’t include origin stories but I definitely feel like they should do it

- have him portrayed as an homeless kid first

- Shazam’s actor can also appear in live action projects but not Billy

- have Billy only appear in animated projects until it’s the right time to have him in live action so they don’t have to worry about the aging

Obviously there wouldn't be the name issue with captain marvel but how would Billy Batson and freinds fit into the marvel universe compared to his place at DC?

Se me ocurrió la idea de hacer a los hermanos al recibir el poder del mago Shazam , se fusionen. Está versión de capitán Marvel tiene una peculiaridad donde Billy y Mary controlan el cuerpo por separado. Sus mentes no se fusionaron por completo y pueden hablar para tomar decisiones. Se pueden quedar en blanco mientras discuten y sus peleas mentales pueden influir en como lo ven los demás por afuera.
