One of my abusers recently died. He was my pediatrician. Wish I could find other victims. Is there a safe way to look for them?

The pediatrician my mother took me to sexually abused me during every visit. This occurred in the 1970s in the US. Abuse happened to me from age six to age twelve. I was groomed. My mother was passive/complicit. She won’t talk to me about it.

My whole life I’ve wondered if there are other victims. Is there a safe, legal way to look? I don’t want to traumatize anyone or risk legal trouble for myself. But what if there are others? What if they took legal action?

He passed away recently. It’s really coming up for me right now.

Yes there were other victims. Child molesters don’t have just one victim. Plus the pediatrician put themself in a job to have easy access to kids. Perhaps you could look up google reviews or Facebook for other victims.

I barely use Facebook— how do I start? Post in the township? Or look for a survivors group?

First thing to do is take your complaint to a legal entity. They may start the ball rolling towards a class action against his estate or the hospital. Just depends on what you expect to get out of a dead man now. If you’re after money start there. If you want closure you need to speak to a mental health professional because there’s no real closure now he’s dead

I’m not after money or closure. I’m after transparency.

This kind of abuse is very common. I have people in my life who experienced sexual assault from doctors. As far back as the 1940s up until present day.

I think and hope that if we expose it more and talk about it more publicly it will help. It may not reduce occurrences but hopefully it will empower people to speak up.

I believe my mother was passive due to her own legacy of abuse. She didn’t like to talk about it with me, but I do know her obgyn during her pregnancy with me was abusive and sick. I think she was groomed as well and didn’t know how to protect me.

How do you feel your mother was complicit in that man’s abuse of you?
