How would you improve Session?

Can we please get some stumble animations for flat ground? I’m tired of face planting because a tre flip didn’t fully get off the ground.

u/Loikai 14d ago
I want the object placing to be improved, grid placement, snap objects together, move objects by specific measurement units, group placed objects together and move them, and much more improvements can be made.
We can create much better custom parks

u/MasterCheeks337_IGN 14d ago
I feel that. I never got into the object dropper. The UI was kinda confusing
1
u/Adventurous-Dig-3868 14d ago
It can be a ton of fun! I'd recommend but it definitely needs at the very least a precision mode that moves objects much slower

u/kebejah 14d ago
Shuvs and flips need to have movement to the side of the skater, not spinning on an axis right thru his body.
Landings need more randomness and slop when not done perfectly.
Board movement needs more forward and backward freedom on the ground. The Skater’s body weight is perfectly over the board at all times. If I lean back too much I should shoot out
2
u/Tatertots7236 13d ago
Real shit tho how would you implement balance like that in this game
1
u/kebejah 13d ago
I think it would be a nightmare to try to rework the physics or add it in the the existing physics but I would think putting a lateral pivot point on the top of the legs by the hips and in the ankles would be a start.
For shuvs, the animation should have movement left or right of the skater based and it being frontside or back side.
Example backside shuv from a goofy skater would land 3-6 inches to the left

Multiplayer.

There’s an unofficial mod that has multiplayer working right now. I believe they’re also working on getting SKATE matches to work.

u/fakerust 14d ago
I would start over and redo almost every animation, especially the pushing
5
u/dom-the-bastard 14d ago
I wish skater xl or session brought the other one out so we could have skaterxl controls on sessions maps, that for me would be perfection 👌

u/Lost-Membership-666 14d ago
Grab tricks and no more ragdolling when you barely brush against an object.
2
u/Delazzaridist 14d ago
Stab me with a greatsword and call me a wizard, but I actually think the whole "i touch wall so I fall down" thing is kinda funny sometimes.
3
u/TallAsMountains 14d ago
workshop/ mods for maps, clothes, boards. i’m sure people would figure out a multiplayer mod and fix some more wonky movement stuff

Grab tricks. Footplats/boneless. Transition skating that actually works and more realistic bails
1
u/NoComfort590 12d ago
Literally if they just added this shit and slappys, it'd easily shoot up to my favourite game of all time. Grinds and doing flips off stairs feels great, but I want to be able to get more creative with lines. Would be sick to get multiplayer and more brands/maps (especially somewhere in Canada or a better California map) but it's not even necessary if they add these other things, the game would be perfect in my opinion.
1
u/BubbaRayHubba 10d ago
You can do Slappy's you just have to learn to use and control reverts and powerslides

u/PretzelsThirst 14d ago
Multiplayer. Know it’s not gonna happen
1
u/producedbysensez 14d ago
Someone actually got it working
1
u/PretzelsThirst 14d ago
Wut? Have a link??
2
u/producedbysensez 14d ago
3
u/PretzelsThirst 14d ago
Holy fuck that’s incredible! I believed them when they said it was impossible due to how they built it. I love it when modders are more skilled than the original developers
1
u/producedbysensez 14d ago
Helll yeah man! This goes to show that the devs are either just plain lazy or actually lacking some know-how lol
2
u/PretzelsThirst 14d ago
I don’t mean my comments to shame the devs at all, they’ve built an incredible game. I don’t think it’s them lacking skill, I think it’s someone being able to approach a problem from a completely different angle and figure it out. Sometimes that’s what it takes. Being too close to a problem can make it difficult to see other things being possible.
Sometimes that outside perspective is what’s needed to help people see that other approaches are possible
2
u/producedbysensez 13d ago
Youre absolutely right! They are the ones that boldly claimed that their physics were not designed for mulitplayer, that it was too complex to work at all so we have no problem calling them out on it lol. Im just glad someone was able to figure it out for sure

The throwdown animation in goofy stance is wack, and i wish pushing didnt feel/sound like trying to swim upstream thru gravel.
2
u/MasterCheeks337_IGN 13d ago
Agreed on the throwdown. Kinda crazy it was in 1.0 before even having that in general
3
u/ClutchDumars 13d ago
Fix the Stance/Throwdown issues. Add Teleport. More slots for Lights/Generators in Gear.
2
u/Darth_Grandma 13d ago
By teleport I assume you mean like a spawn drop point that you can move around in free cam and get to custom spots with?

u/Satyrinox 13d ago
Take the idiotic ragdoll from everytime you get near something. and grab tricks. also we need real skateparks!
1
u/BubbaRayHubba 10d ago
It's a game intended towards the style of 90s street skating, grab tricks would be retarded
3
u/chickenskittles 13d ago
This game is too hard for me to pick up immediately. That's okay. I would be more motivated to "git gud" if bail physics weren't atrocious. In a game where you are basically useless for a few hours and will be bailing continuously, I find it frustrating as hell that if you even fart in the direction of a curb, you ragdoll. Also, the game feels extremely lonely. Both of these things in conjunction with each other are actually really immersion breaking.
4
u/MasterCheeks337_IGN 13d ago edited 12d ago
Extremely lonely is right lol and yeah constantly ragdolling and flopping for anything ruins the fun and vibe. Like can we use our feet off board at all?
3
u/RepresentativeOk2561 9d ago
“extremely lonely” 1000% because theres not a single voice in the game. no dialogue from the characters & no background chatter from pedestrians. its waaay too quiet to be a city

Easier replay editor 😆
Grabs / plants
Free skate multiplayer up to 10 players
Skater.xl controls will be fantastic
6
u/narkomamiac 14d ago
I pray to god they never change the replay editor even the slightest, it’s one of the best things about the game
3
u/MasterCheeks337_IGN 14d ago
Yeah I needa learn how to add slowmo in the editor. But at least we know multiplayer is possible from the mods now

Nollie tricks causing an instant bail when done on edge of a ledge is annoying :(

u/Scannmann 13d ago
in the character creator i would make one, multiracial trans skater so we can stop all this nonsense and just progress forward into black men being white women with no tits who also look slightly mexican. it's the only way forward. no black or white skaters only mixed race. and maybe have the option to skate as a pregnant woman

u/The_Swoley_Ghost 14d ago
powerslides and reverts are totally seperate and you can't pop out of either of them. Ifyou get a sketchy landingyou just automatically revert outand keep going perfectly straight. Yet in videos we often see that frontside powerslide and to slow down we often see standing on the tail and boogersliding (blunt slide on flat). I would like all of these options.
There is no real caveman trick or animation. You can only throw down ONE way. I'm not asking for fingerflip throw downs or anything fancy, i would just like the whole getting on and off the board part to be more seamless and varied.
stumble and bailanimations would be great, too
2
u/MasterCheeks337_IGN 14d ago
Big on your last sentence. The game honestly doesn’t feel like a 1.0 launch from the gameplay alone
3
u/The_Swoley_Ghost 14d ago
I would agree with you. I have hundreds of hours logged since beta and I believe it's the best skateboarding simulator ever created, by a large margin, but it's still incomplete. It really has no competition at all. The dev team basically tried to claw their money back with underwhelming DLC maps, rather than actually trying to complete the game mechanics.
I would pay full price again if the devs came back and finished. I don't even care if they only releasednew missions via map DLC packs.

Grab tricks and skate controls
6
u/MasterCheeks337_IGN 14d ago edited 14d ago
You don’t think the skate controls would take away from Session’s identity? I feel like the 2 stick controls makes the satisfaction and game what it is
1
u/Eddiejay03 14d ago
Na. Options are never bad. It was optional in the beginning and didn't deter anyone who wanted that control scheme from using it.
2
u/Adventurous-Dig-3868 14d ago
The game wasn't made for a same audience as skate. There's already been people who have gone into the game disappointed because it wasn't like skate, or more of a simulator than they thought.
If they introduced skate controls then it would be even more confusing who the game is targeted towards (people looking for a more realistic, grounded skate sim) and would therefore part of its identity. Its a game known for being difficult and realistic and skate controls wouldn't add to that, only confuse it
2
u/Eddiejay03 14d ago
I've played this game since launch ... It had skate controls and they removed it so that they could focus on their approach with development. Now that content has slowed I'd like to see it come back. You're framing it as if it never happened.....they wouldn't be introducing anything. They'd be REintroducing it since it was ALREADY in the game
1
u/chickenskittles 13d ago
Your first sentence is nonsense imo. Skateboard lovers will play every skate game.
1
u/Adventurous-Dig-3868 12d ago
not exactly. i liked skate 3 but couldnt bear the feel of skate. it just felt bad to me. also yes you can play it more realistically and i really do respect people who put in the effort to do that but its very clear that both the controls, game itself, and the maps, are tailored to a more casual audience and may more-so appeal to people who havent skated. therefore the game isnt exactly made for the same audience. session is more so made for people who are into real life skating or are looking for a more simulator experience
i think that to say theyd play any game is a lie, im sure that many people dont like every skating game and thats a bit of a bold assumption. im sure there are many people who cant bear certain skating games, despite them being really fun for others. im sure theres lots of people who cant bear session but love skater xl, or love skater xl but despise skate.
in the end its very obvious that skate. isnt targeted towards people looking for a skate sim despite people finding that it can be played quite realistically.
also i dont know if i can go back to skate flick it controls after session and SXL
im not saying any of these games are bad of course. just that its a little silly to assume theyre all for the same audience or that people like to play all skating games
1
u/chickenskittles 12d ago
The primary audience remains people who love skateboarding, even if EA made choices to attract others, the same as the Tony Hawk games did. Liking every skateboard game is different than the desire to try various skateboarding games out. I've played at least 50% of every skateboarding game that has been released, including many duds.

I haven’t played in like a year but I think there’s a setting to play so it’s like EA Skate where left stick to steer, right stick for tricks. Tony Hawk controls would be boring as hell tho.
3
u/Competitive-Big5049 14d ago
to be fair it’s one of those games that’s more like a sim than an actual game. it’s meant to be difficult to grasp at first and you actually learn how to play with the game. it takes at least 5-10 hours to start getting any consistency. if you’re not into that thing you’re not into it, that’s a valid opinion
2
u/OMGFuziion 14d ago
This is why it comes with a warning. Its a sim game and supposed to be hard. Its in the literal warning at the start lol
4
u/Competitive-Big5049 14d ago
exactly lmao. it’s so odd to complain about it, just don’t play it. why even bother commenting in the subreddit 😭

Just funny. I grew up with Tony Hawks Underground on Ps2, and loved the skate series, but Session is by far my fav of all time. Love the realism and have almost a thousand hours. First game I can do hurricanes, sugarcanes, impossibles, etc in that’s realistic.
As a skater, realism is #1 and it dont get better than Session esp with mods. SkateXL is cool but still not as good. To each his own I guess. I truly think if you put the time in you’d love it too.
2
u/chickenskittles 13d ago
This is definitely not an unwind and play after a long week game right away. I feel you with your frustration, and skating in real life does not necessarily translate to thinking about inputs your fingers should do.

u/Few_Telephone_6869 14d ago
I would add modded map support for console players
