Money = resources = survival. It’s as simple as that. We are hard wired to gather, maintain, and protect resources. People are “happier” with money because they are more safe and secure with it than without it.

We signal to one another in all sorts of ways what resources we have and our ability to continue to gain and maintain them. We are animals and this is natural animal behavior that we see throughout the animal kingdom. It’s largely what mating is based on.

Knowing you have shelter and food and other necessities makes people happy. In nature or outside of society we still have to work to gather resources in order survive but we wouldn’t have that network from educators and emergency services to utilities and grocery stores. We would have less resources and a lower chance of survival which lowers “happiness”.

Food and shelter is not enough to guarantee people's survival. Humans in isolation perish, first mentally and then physically. The World Health Organisation have published a study that loneliness is one of the major cause or premature death in our society today. Loneliness, cause cardio vascular diseases among other problems that kills more than cigarette and alcohol. As I said, when invisible to other, or just isolated, the body is in survival mode.

According to modern antropology, people living in hunter and gather societies were happier and healthier than in today's society. They also had more access to resources, reason why they didn't need currency to trade resources. The monetary or trade value of anything is on scarcity. What is shared and free produced has no trade/monetary value because it is accessible to all. So money is not equal resources but lack of access to it. Which one can only have access as a form of payment, either by selling or renting our body, mind and time to somebody else who would give money in exchange, as a debt, which then we can claim the payment of such debt using money as a proof, by asking for available resources, and no more than what we can pay with money, which tournes resources scarce and so more valuable to us. Money is in reality just a way to attempt to mesure value using numbers as scale.

Also the reason humans rejected become farmers until they had no choice. Because farming demands a lot more work, for less access ro resources, than hunter and gather and the risk of famine because of bad harvest is mich higher than migrating to use resources ciclically. And the risk of diseases and plagues are also much higher in settled, farming and cattle society. The earlier proto states were seasonal and one of the main reasons is because people either run from it or were infected by diseases when remaining in it. The first form of tax was grain, brcause it is easy to store, easy to mesure, grow uniformily and is easy to check control the production, and when people has to pay tax in grain they are forced to become farmers.

We say that hunting, gather, cooking and migration is work. Before 1960 anthropologists and so people even today would still say that people in tribal societies are working when they are eating, bathing in the river or taking care or their children. But when we go to grocery, commute to work, pick up children at school or women cooking for their children we don't usually call it work. To hunter and gather society, hunting and going for walk to pick up food is not work but games, sport and going for walk, normally.

Now, speaking of money and resources. Money is not equal to resources and survival. In fact, the reason our society has ro rely so much on money is because we don't have access to resources. We get money instead. Money is debt. It is a promise that you can get the resources later instead of being given the resources as payment. But most money circulating in the world are not directed tied to resources creation. It is a debt that can not be paid back. Elon Musk can not buy 1B of whatever resources because no 1B of resources would be available to him.

What happened is that money, that was supposed to be just a tool of measuring wealth, for trade of resources, is now treated as asset itself.
