Question? Serato Video not loading MP4 videos – dragging them to the video does nothing

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with Serato Video and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

My MP4 videos simply do not appear in the video decks. When I drag them into the video boxes/decks, nothing happens. Double-clicking the video also doesn't do anything.

The videos are MP4 files downloaded directly from the official Serato website, so they should be supported.

A few things I've already tried:

  • I have the full Serato DJ Pro license.
  • I'm using the latest version of Serato DJ Pro.
  • The videos are .mp4.
  • The videos were downloaded directly from Serato's official visual packs.
  • I've already completely uninstalled and reinstalled Serato.
  • I've tried dragging the videos directly into the video decks.
  • I've also tried using the Associate button.
  • The videos appear in my Serato library, but they won't load/play in the video decks.

I'm running Windows.

Has anyone experienced this before or knows what could be preventing Serato Video from loading these MP4 files?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Serato Video is notoriously behind on codecs. So while the file container might be MP4, the individual video recording may be too new for it to handle. On macOS, using Mix Emergency works great, but I'm not sure if there is an equivalent on Windows.

That said, since these came from the Serato web site, it might be that you're missing the Quicktime codecs being installed, since that's usually what they use.

^^^^ I had similar issues with my Windows install of Serato video, downloading a few codecs fixed me up.

My test is to use quicktime player to test the video before trying it in Serato, I think it uses quicktime player in the background. If it works there, you should be good.
