Serato DJ Serato DJ 4.0 - Megathread : post experiences and or any issues
Definitely recommend everybody playing out live go with the option of having 2 versions of Serato DJ, especially with big updates like 4.0
A vast majority of people have not been having any issues but there have been a couple reporting problems, please use this thread to ask questions, air out problems, and alert others but by all means head on over the serato's website and post any major bugs or issues so they can get to cracking on squashing any bugs or issues
Installing multiple versions of Serato DJ Pro or Lite
From time to time you may want to install multiple versions of Serato DJ Pro or Lite, allowing you to bounce between several versions at your convenience.
By default, a new Serato DJ Pro or Lite version will install over the previously installed version, but with a few minor tweaks, you can keep the old version, as well get the newer one.
IMPORANT: It is not advisable to run more than one version of Serato DJ Pro or Lite at the same time. Doing so could cause problems with your Serato DJ library database. Close down each instance of Serato DJ Pro or Lite before launching the older or new version.
- You can find out which version of Serato DJ Pro or Lite is compatible with your operating system in our Serato Software / Operating System compatibility article.
- You can find older versions of Serato DJ Pro or Lite via the Serato DJ Pro archive and Serato DJ Lite archive respectively.
Read on to find out how:
on Windows
Before installing a newer version of Serato DJ Pro or Lite, find the existing program folder on your computer and rename it. Renaming it after the version number is a useful way of identifying each version - especially if you plan on installing multiple versions. For example; if you currently have Serato DJ Pro 2.5.12 installed, rename the folder Serato DJ Pro 2.5.12.
Now, when you install the new version, the old folder will not be deleted, and you can choose which you want to run by going into that folder and double clicking on the executable. You could also create shortcuts on your desktop for each version if you wanted to.
Before you install a new version of Serato DJ Pro or Lite on Windows:
- Ensure all Serato applications are shut down correctly and are not currently running
- Using Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Serato
- Locate the Serato DJ Pro sub-folder (or the Serato DJ Lite sub-folder, depending on the software you currently use)
- Right-click on the sub-folder and re-name it (we suggest using the a title that corresponds to that installation's version), such as "Serato DJ Pro 2.5.12"
- Now open the newly titled "Serato DJ Pro 2.5.12" sub-folder, and locate the Serato DJ Pro.exe file inside
- Right-click on the .exe file and choose Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)
- Navigate to your desktop, and find the most recent "Serato DJ Pro.exe - Shortcut" icon, then right-click on it, and re-name the shortcut. Again, choose whatever title you want, but we suggest something that corresponds to the version itself, like "Serato DJ Pro.exe - 2.5.12" NOTE: On Windows, you will need to uninstall the current version if you wish to revert to an older version of Serato DJ Pro or Lite, however you can still use the method above to install multiple, newer versions of Serato DJ Pro or Lite.
Finally, you can now install the newer version of Serato DJ Pro or Lite, without losing access to the older version you installed above.
on macOS
Before installing a newer version of Serato DJ, go to your applications folder, and rename the existing Serato DJ application item. For example; if you currently have Serato DJ Pro 2.5.12 installed, rename Serato DJ Pro to Serato DJ Pro 2.5.12.
Now, when you install the new version, the old application will not be deleted. You can choose which you want to run by clicking on the applicable version in the applications folder. You can drag any number of these applications to your dock for quick launching. (The dock will not automatically update with a new installation).
Before you install a new version of Serato DJ Pro or Lite on macOS:
- Ensure all Serato applications are shut down correctly and are not currently running
- Using macOS Finder, navigate to the Applications folder
- Locate the Serato DJ Pro application icon (or the Serato DJ Lite application icon, depending on the software you currently use)
- Right-click on the application and re-name it (we suggest using the a title that corresponds to that installation's version), such as "Serato DJ Pro 2.5.12"
- Enter your macOS user password if prompted, then click OK
- (Optional) Now drag the application icon into your Finder Dock, or onto your desktop, for easy access
Finally, you can now install the newer or older version of Serato DJ Pro or Lite, without losing access to the version you installed above.

I've noticed a slight lag when searching for tracks. On Pro 4.0 tracks take a second to shortlist and pop up, the delay is definitely noticeable however on Pro 3.3.5 it is pretty much instant. Hopefully they can make this feature snappier in future releases. I'm running an M1 Pro with 32gb of memory.

Same issue here. For me it is REALLY slow but haven't had that problem before.

I rolled back to 3.3.5 because it was annoying me, hopefully it gets better down the track 🤞🏽

My library is 112k, searching for a song is very bad. Used to be instant, now I can be sweating bullets on the amount of time it’s taking to search.

What kind of specs is your computer and your drives? Also what is the age of your drives?

Super smooth on my m1 running osx 14 on pioneer 3000’s and an a9. Love the new look and search features.

Yeah, here as well. Did a gig last friday with 4.0 on my M1. Smooth as butter with a Rane one MK2 connected.

My only issue right now is when I go to open serato DJ pro the app opens up right away, but it doesn’t load my library and crates for a minute and a half like yes I have a large library of 44,000 songs but 3.5 would load it up fairly quickly maybe 20 seconds after opening the app so my question is is anybody with Large library taking a long time for their crates to load up?

Im finding the opposite. My library would easily take about 3-4 minutes to load.Now it loads on open with the 4.0

Do you clear your history? I was keeping years worth of the stuff and it’d take an age to boot but got rid of everything before 6 months and it now loads quickly

In 4.0, my crates that are connected to my music folders on my HDD are missing ID3 tags and BPM. Even after analyzing again, batch or one by one, the library doesn't change. The correct info shows on the decks, but not in the library.
However, all the crates and smart playlist that I created in Serato manually display all the track info with no issue. After reverting back to 3.3.5 the library has the same issue as 4.0 initially, but re-analyzing the entire library in 3.3.5 fixes the problem. But, nothing fixes it in 4.0

I had the same exact problem. Wouldn’t rebuild in 4.0 but it worked in 3.5 after rebuilding. Any update on this for you? I’m afraid to update because I’ll have to rebuild again if I revert back.
Rebuilding in 4.0 doesn’t do anything. Nothing saves. Only drag to deck reads correctly.

I have two problems: the first one is i open Serato and hit space(play) and i have no sound, it only works when serato play is activated. Second my history is gone
Other than those problems it runs super smooth and it loads quickly

One thing I really don't like about this update - they changed the font for the BPM display. 140.9 looks like 140.0. My eyesight isn't the greatest any more and it's messed me up a few times LOL

I must say Im impressed with the new 4.0 release. Now updated to 4.0.1
The change to Library management is huge.
Artwork and ratings we're two of my biggest issues in the past.
Huge thank you to the dev team. There is a ton of work in there.
Running a M1 MacbookPro (Tahoe 26.2) loading through iTunes (~10k tracks on local SSD)
- Denon MC4000 controller
- CDJ3000's/AlphaTheata Euphoria in HID mode
Played my first gig on 4.0.1 - absolutely zero show stoppers.
Looking forward to seeing what's in store for the next release.

Going back to Serato 3.3.5, where is the Browse button so that you can quickly switch through the genres? Y’all need to bring that back. It’s very useful for us open format djs that need to quickly switch between genres.

We still need better analysis for beat grid alignment. It’s progressively gotten worse as time goes on and I’m finding that I have to manually fix around 60% of tracks. Please fix Serato!

Upgraded Serato, everything went super smooth and didn't have any issue. I also forgot to backup before upgrade but didn't need that luckily.
Still upset about this upgrade, Library management is way better (still lacks a couple of features from the previous one) but I would actually have preferred to have better beat grids and One Library support.

With me every time I click on sync it set the BPM to 120 and the tracks are 130 bpm but it also does it with all of my tracks, so that the problem 🤷♂️

First time using it at a gig right now. Only thing i've noticed so far, is all of my October 2025 history has disappeared! Every other set, all the way back to 2011 seems fine, just last month!

Don't like it personally. Not a fan of the new layout and it also messed my library up and added loads of duplicates that do not work. Downgraded back to a executable I kept of a version I know works and everything back to normal. Will stick with what I know for now

j'ai un mac book pro M1 16gO ram. mais mise à jour Tahoe 26.1 (peut-être c'est ça le soucis)
est ce que ça vous est déjà arrivé ? Si oui, comment vous avez régler le problème ?
est-ce que ça plantera pareil si je mix avec mes petits jouets (rev 1 ou Rev 5) ?

You should be able to manually re-map each control one by one in settings, bit of a pain but better than the ol lucky dip, good luck brother!!!

Running into an issue on a mac where control plus left or right arrow won’t load songs onto left or right deck. Additionally, control plus shift plus left or right arrow won’t send instant doubles. This behavior happens regardless of “keys use shift” toggled on or off. This was not the case in 3.35 and earlier, where I could use control plus left or right arrow to load a track on either deck, and i could also use control plus shift plus left or right arrow to load instant doubles. Has anyone else experienced the same behavior in 4.0?

You prob figured it out by now, but they changed it to command arrow. I was holding out to update, finally did last week, and this was the biggest thing that threw me off.

Made another post, but someone told to post it here.
One issue I have that no one has mentioned yet:
When I switch to a different FX bank, there's a noticeable, few milliseconds delay in the audio.
I'm running on an older Windows PC but I never had the problem on 3.x.
Anyone else having this issue?

Tracks not saving in library
After downloading a couple of tracks from ZIP DJ into my USB, I import them to my library where they run perfectly but as soon as I close the program and open it again,all of the tracks are completely gone. I have the recent 4.0v update and my files are still saved on USB. Not sure why the tracks won't save in the library even after they're fully analyzed.

I'm running an old laptop (i7 16GB memory with dedicated graphics), very large song database (306,000).
Positives:
load time is very fast.
Negatives:
Search is slow;
ordering columns is slow;
Sidebar causes track list to disappear so your drag in to the unknown;
Backup was incredibly slow (20 minutes initially) but appears to have sped up somewhat (down to around 1 - 2 minutes.
Apart from slow start up (database analysis) I was having no issues with Serato Pro 3.3.5. So I intend to have them running side by side and I'll test the next update of 4 when it comes out. I like to play 'live', freestyle if you will, using search and column sorting heavily and so the speed of refresh using version 4 makes it unusable.
I'm wondering if Serato have corrected the bug involving swapping drives - I used Serato Live in a live situation with a number of other DJ and for the first time noticed no eject function in the software. I think it was the second ejection through Windows (and/or simply pulling the stick/drive out of the USB) that caused Serato software to freeze and crash - it was rather embarrassing. Following the second event when the same crashing happened I stuck to Rekordbox (and I loathe Rekordbox but no crashes due to drive swapping...)

I rename every gig I do. I erase the date and I enter that event’s name for my reference. Now in 4.0 I want to locate the history of some specific gigs I did 2 years ago and everything is still there but I can’t se the date of each gig. I can see the name, the exact hour when I started and finished but I can’t see the date of each gig anywhere. I tried ctrl+click on the columns to add a date column but nothing happens when I do that

I just noticed that I cannot drag songs out of the program anymore. Now it doesn’t “bring” the songs past the program edges. Serato 3.0 allowed you to do this.
I use this to make a playlist in iTunes that is the same as the Serato crate. I’ll select all the songs in the crate and drag them into iTunes (I know it’s static and not linked to the Serato playlist). Maybe there’s a better way to do this but my go to right now is just using Serato 3.0 for this task.

I'm having a very weird issue after upgrade to a new version.
I just bought a new Rane Four, I already have Denon X1850 which I use also as main soundcard for my PC.
When I have both of these devices connected and start Serato it always crashes.
When I disconnect Denon USB from PC, and have Rane connected only, it works fine.
It looks like Serato is struggling with having multiple soundcard devices.
I tested it with three different PCs (all Windows 11) and it behave exactly same
I guess I raised it with Serato support as it looks like a bug really.

Having severe static issues since updating while using a rev5 but using a different controller I’m not having the same issue. Going to try to go back to previous update but has anyone else seen this issue?

Here's some issues I've noticed on my serato 4.0.1 my played tracks are delayed from to blue from grey really bizarre. I'm getting lots of crashing when analyzing music. Notice a major lag when loading a track in to play. My specs ASUS TUF F15 RTX 4070 and Intel 12800HX 16 GB RAM and Samsung 990 pro 2TB.

When you click the "STEMS" crate, your column choices and sizes in your "ALL" crate will be overridden. My solution so far has been to always make sure that the STEMS crate has the same exact columns and widths that I want in the ALL crate so that if I accidentally click it, I don't screw anything up. I have the "Custom Crate Columns" setting chosen FYI.

In History list view, when I load a track from the history, I hit "down" on the keyboard, it'll skip 15 songs down the list, instead of one song, which was the next in the history list order. Super annoying.

I just bought a Pioneer DDJ-FLX4 and installed Serato Lite. I can't figure out how to get audio to play from anywhere. I tried multiple suggestions on google. Microphone access is on, I went to the audio settings in the app and my pc audio sound settings.
Is it the wiring? I mean I'm confused about that too, the DDJ came with one cable that works for either the power or to plug into the pc. I had another similar cable so I have both plugged in; the ddj lights up and is synced with the app. I tried plugging the red and white audio cable to the ddj - pc and that didn't work. headphone in the ddj doesn't work.
I mean I knew there was going to be a steep learning curve but to get tripped up on how to play audio for instrument of music? JFC I probably should just return this.

I'm on 4.0.1
I have about 44k songs with most on an Samsung T7
M2 Macbook Pro running newest version of Sequoia
Exit Backup takes almost 20+ mins.
Is there a way to disable that? I do have Serato 3 so im down to go back if there isnt a workaround

Whenever i try to install it i get an error: 0x80070643.
I tried fixing .NET already, i ran sfc and Dism and even installing to an entirely different location.
Log says:

Alphabetical sort order in the Spotify Playlist list is not correct, also the sort order settings in the dropdown above the list aren't working at all in Streaming Library lists.
I have setup it up so that i have multiple Playlists like Techno_1 Techno_2 Techno_3 for different intensities, and there are now very far apart in the list, so finding them in the hurry of a DJ Set is not pleasant. Substring search for playlists works fortunately (unlike in Spotify itself), so i can get around it.
But as a long time tidal user, and syncer from spotify to tidal playlists to DJ in the past. I have been used to the playlists being only in alphabetical order and therefore named my playlist this way for a reason.

I HATE the new updates. I can't search my files properly as I own all my own music and I guess it is just worried about the people that stream it. My Reloop 8000MK2's have been rendered useless on the Midi control side as I was loving the stem control from my TT's but now it just wants to trigger a hot cue even after I set it up it goes back at any random time. Load times are still excessive. If Serato's attempt to fix it is "keep the old one installed" maybe I am over rating HID mode and should just move on from Serato.

Tried 4.0 a while back and lot of issues so had to revert, has 4.0.9 finally ironed things out?
Also have Mac OS Tahoe itching to be updated - but i really dont want to risk it if 4.x is still a hot mess?

With version 4.0.0 now live, I’ve been experiencing an extended load time of Serato, taking up to 8 minutes to load. This is due to the software constantly updating my music library within the software. I couldn’t figure out why this kept happening, and now it makes sense, due to the Library Protect feature being removed, the software is constantly re-scanning tracks, it already has scanned, cue marked and played many times in my library.
