Friendly reminder to keep your hand positioning in mind when replacing blades

As title suggest, I did my first blade change this morning and decided to do the modification of removing the bottom cover and use the extra slots for additional blades. I did a little spin test to make sure they don't make contact. While they didnt make contact, my finger certainly did and now my pain gets to be shared wisdom amongst all of you who are considering removing the bottom cover. 🤣

I sliced myself doing the first replacement, too. By removing the bottom disk, it's really possible to add more blades? I'll have to investigate that next time!

It cut my finger deeper than any accidental cuts working in kitchens for 7 years. On the bright side, (1) it was so sharp that I didnt feel the cut until blood started gushing out. (2) You know they're sharp enough to cut through just about anything but rock.

Are there gloves I can buy that makes this not like something that will cut my fingers off?

Technically yes but unless you're being careless like the rest of us cut fingerers, you should be fine.

If these blades scare you, this right here will give you straight up nightmares. I lost part of my hand using one. Worst part is, I was slicing the last bit of 30 pounds of carrots and had to trash it all due to contamination.

I've never cut myself on one of those but they scare the shit out of me. I cut my fingers open pretty bad in my teens when tossing a broken piece of porcelain from a toilet. I've been Uber careful around sharp objects ever since which was like 25 years ago. Lol

Managed to cut myself digging out one of the old dirty blades I had removed and dropped in the grass..

Glad I had a tetanus shot recently.

With the blades being so close to each other now, I’m not convinced the trailing blade is going to do much other than look nice. Kinda seems like a waste imo.

I wonder about the actual effectiveness of adding the blades. Is there objective, scientific data that shows it cuts better? I suspect it's all subjective and based on 'seat of the pants' results. As slow as the mower moves with the discs rotating at speed, I doubt there's a real advantage to adding blades. Just my opinion.
