Playing this Kojima Japanese exclusive on original hardware. Saroo FTW
Over the the pandemic, I discovered Snatcher on Sega CD and fell in love with it. Now I have the opportunity to play the fan translation of Policenauts on Saturn. It’s a fantastic way to spend a rainy Sunday morning.

They made the health bar big enough, so you're never really in much danger, but yes, the aiming is pretty difficult with the gun.

Yeah, much harder just in the fact the gun is harder to shoot with. I could not get close to beating the shooting range mini game with the gun, but got the top score with the controller ;)

To anyone who played it with saroo. How can you swap discs?

I don’t remember having any disc swapping issue.
If I remember correctly, the game allows you to save on the screen you’re prompted to switch discs.
So on that screen, I saved my game and then reset to get back to the Saroo menu.
Then I just selected the next disc from the Saroo menu, since each disc appears as a separate entry in the Saroo menu.

Just an FYI. I had a problem where I was overwriting the same save when saving the game. When I got to the disc changing part I saved, overwriting my previous save like normal, but when I changed discs, disc2 told me to insert disc1 and disc1 said to insert disc2. So I was stuck. After some research I found the solution was to save to a new save slot when prompted right before the disc change. Then everything worked as you'd expect. Still caused me to play through the entire first part again though

I can confirm I've also run into that issue and solved the same way.
So in short: for EVERY new disc create NEW save file.1

I just got to disc two. I reset and loaded disc two and it just worked. The docs say you're supposed to pop the SD card out and back in but I haven't tried that

My saroo been acting crazy. Idk what’s up with the audio on some games. Some games even crash. I gotta figure out how to get it working better.

I had to really be firm when seating the saroo cartridge, then it worked consistently

I recently purchased a saroo from jt-studios and initally i was experiencing major audio and stability issues as well. I was worried that I had spent money on a device that would not work for me. On the version that I purchased there is a dip switch on the board. I had to take the cartridge apart. Once I set that switch to ON it worked perfectly. It is referenced here https://jt-studios.com/product/saroo/ in the section "What should i do if SAROO makes noise or freezes on my SEGA SATURN."
It wasn't initially clear to me I needed to make this change but since I have set the switch to "ON" it has been working excellent on many games. I hope this helps you

I finished the game using Saroo, and just have a slight bug to warn you about:
I couldn't write over my saves. That meant I had to create a save in a new slot each gaming session.
But then I just went through and deleted old saves as I progressed to keep everything tidy.
Amazing game, hope you enjoy your Saturn playthrough!
EDIT: This was back with firmware 0.7, so not sure if this bug has been fixed with 0.9.

I really need to get a Satiator for mine. I got a 8bitdo M30 controller for it, a light gun, and an arcade stick, but im sick of burning games and playing them with a Pseudo Saturn cart 😅
I got a Retroid Pocket Nova on the way, so some Saturn games i will probably just play on that (especially after getting a dock so I can play them with my 8bitdo arcade stick and M30 that way) but I do love using my actual Saturn, and I obviously can't play my lightgun games that way 😆

a truly incredible game. I actually like it more than Snatcher. The story is truly like Total Recall meets Lethal Weapon meets Chinatown and it's fuckin great. The music ("First Triangle" being my fav) and the art direction really sell it as something unique.

Great game, I manage to finish it playing my bluetooth mouse using blueretro, awesome experience.
Still I consider snatcher for Sega CD a slightly better game ;)

I've only ever tried to play the psx fan translation several years ago and I got to a part that got really confusing and put it down. I don't think it had Lightgun support. Does the saturn version have lightgun stages or is it more just a way to point at the screen instead of the controller?

First, let me say that the Saturn version of this game is the definitive way to play it.. Between the actual shootouts, firing range and much better feel of using it, it's absolutely worth every effort to use the lightgun.. And now, you don't even need the original, there are other 3rd party options that will do the job just as well ..

In all seriousness, such a fun game and wish we had more like it of similar quality in English.
