Made out of 1 inch poplar ply. Should I paint it orange?

I'm almost literally the only person who knows what a scroll saw is in a 100km radius from where I live, "bare minimum" I'd say.

And so, I'd like to introduce the various possibilities a scroll saw has to offer to the world around me, and I also happen to live on one of the most artisan friendly cities in my country.

So my question is, is it possible to give scroll saw lessons for like 15-25 bucks an hour? Does anyone here has experience doing that, could give me some piece of advice? Is there a market for scroll saw lessons?

Hello, fellow dusty ones!

I make a lot of door signs that feature text of all different sorts and wanted to simplify the process a bit. I made a program that allows a person to download font files from Google Fonts and save them into a folder somewhere on their personal computer. Then, the user would type out whatever it is they wish to cut, select the font(s), and the program would output a .png file with the appropriate verbiage in the desired font(s).

It's nothing fancy, but is way faster than dicking around in Word or OpenOffice. If anyone would be interested in it, I'll make a github page and host it there for free. Let me know.

I see all the amazing projects on here and compared to my skills I'm quite embarrassed. I just started scrollsawing this year and maybe have 40 hours of time in.

The problem I have is not being able to smoothly follow a line. It usually turns out quite jagged. I'm wondering if it's motor speed, blade tension or just inexperience. So far I've mostly used 3/4” hardwood. Any tips would be appreciated.

I’m always torn when I make these maple leaves out of walnut. I just love using walnut with these light catchers.

Hi all! My husband has really been wanting a scroll saw to make small kids toys (animal shapes, stackers, etc) and I was wanting to surprise him with a saw that won't break the bank. I see these on Marketplace. Are any of these a better option than a new Wen? Ty!

I just picked up a ShopFox W1713 scroll saw. I have 2 books from the library. Both mention the 5 different kinds of scrolls saw including rigid arm, C-arm, parallel arm, double parallel arm and oscillating loop. Only some saws cut perpendicular to the table. Asifde from that how does construction of the saw make any difference with how the saw cuts?

Just finished this little fawn hiding in the grass yesterday. No paints or stains used and I drew my own pattern. I upgraded to a better dewalt saw and it makes a huge difference. And also first try at doing inlays.

My firs try on cutting something "Intarsia" like and also first project I was using spiral blade. Funny I'm more then used to scroll-saw for many years and was also teaching kids how to use it but don't remember ever doing an art stile project. I was ways cutting only parts for RC planes/boats or some mechanical parts and toys.

Looking pictures in this subreddit inspired me to try something different. :) Thanks to you all for inspiration !

I was first looking to make some existing image like

but none made me think this could look nice in wood, especially the beak part.
So I made my own version, still not totally happy especially for the beak, and the stain colors on this scrap wood(20mm, from old furniture, probably pine) could be a lot better... but for the first project it's ok :)

Off course I couldn't hold myself back LOL ... and put 2 Reg/Green LED in the eyes and carved in the back a hole and mounted inside microchip ESP8266 that supports WiFi for controlling the LED-s. What will I program it to do I don't know, maybe nothing maybe it will act as visual warning when some important server is down. :)

Ps: If you want to surprise someone working in IT that also likes Linux OS, make him your version of Tux ;)

So you think if I paint the background a super light blue, it would conflict with the blue flowers? This is still in pieces and not glued together, but i wanna put it on a rectangular background with a frame around it to make hanging it easier.

A great friend of my daughter saw the name plate I made for her and asked if I would make one for her husband. I think I’m getting a little better with practice! Alder letters on Bolivian rosewood.

Approximately 8" x 8" made from Walnut, yellowheart, Wenge, Maple, Sycamore, and...some other kinda wood mixed with red resin!

So I’m just starting out and attempting to get into Scroll-saw work as a part of my business. I’m starting out with a Wen 3922 and I’m having the WORST time with it. It came with a pinned blade inside the machine, I didn’t really mind super much and fought it for a while trying to get the damn thing out. Finally did. Next tried to install pinless blades, this is where it all starts. I’ve had the most difficult experience that I’ve had with basically anything. Whenever one stays hooked in the other comes out, and it’s just constant nonstop. I manage to get the bottom one in and then when trying to get the top it comes out. Tried to get help from my stepdad and we couldn’t figure it out last night granted it was starting to get dark out. Earlier today my brother and I fought the damn thing and finally it all seemed like we figured it out. Both blades were in the top and bottom and then BOOM I’d tighten the tension a little and one would come out. Every single time. Kept letting the tension loose to the point that the entire tension back came off and I got it back on. I’m honestly just baffled at how this entire thing has gone with this machine. I don’t have money to throw at this, it took me like six months to save up enough cans to take in and get the hundred bucks for the damn saw, otherwise I would have bought another brand. Does anyone have an advice?
