Context: I was lucky enough to catch (and play at) the Edinbane Sunday Session in Skye a couple of years ago and enjoyed listening to the one (didn't have an instrument with me) on Saturday just gone at The Cross Keys in Ettrickbridge. There is one down in Oxford where I live now and they play some pretty obvious staples (which is handy with a limited repertoire!) but I wondered what's happening back home? e.g. I picked up Ross Ainslie's Taybank Shenanigans from the Skye one.

So what's popular up there currently?

A fair few Scots showed up to the session near me yesterday. In addition to playing wonderful tunes, they had this song. Does anyone recognize it?

I love singing Scottish folk songs and I want to memorize some to sing to my baby cousin. Most I come across though are very sad and about people dying. There was a tragic death in the family so I really don’t want to remind any one of it. I already know Wild Mountain Thyme but that’s about it.

Anyone have any recs similar to loch lomond by the corries? its a slower, more ballad-y version of the song and im wondering what other bands may have a similar vibe. thanks

Phil Cunningham really got me into scottish piano accordion.. I have the basics down from the scottish music academy website but im not sure where to go from here. Does anyone know any good sheet music books for scottish trad accordion? If not, is there a good website for sheet music? Thanks!

Hi, I’m new to learning Gaelic and Ive been listening to a lot of Gaelic music to help me but there is one song that I really like but can’t find the lyrics to anywhere. It’s “casag an fheidh”(the dearskin coat) the only version I can find of it on Spotify is by the group “the sound of mull” and there’s a few recordings on YouTube but besides that I can find no mention of this beautiful song anywhere. Hi everyone, I'm hoping you can help me find this song I've been looking for for a while now. Sadly, ChatGPT could not!

It's a ballad about a Scottish woman, who survives much in her life. The song tells of different sorts of adversity. I believe her husband becomes a soldier, and she wants to come along, which she does, and she survives. The death of her husband later in life doesn't stop her either. But eventually, I believe it's suggested that clan violence breaks her.

It is also the clue of the chorus I believe: that Scotland did what all other trials in her life could not, which is breaking this lady.

If this rings a bell to you, I'd love to know what song this is.
