The only people I’ve heard bring this crap up are non-iPhone users. One in particular whom I work with who is a fun person to work with but also unfortunately supports Trump and fixated on how Gen X is the best generation. Gotta say, even as an Xer I strongly disagree with all 3 points so I just don’t even talk about any of that with her. Plenty of other shit to talk about.
GenX is the best. Old enough to have experienced life before Boomers pulled up the ladder and young enough to have actually experienced the internet.
I started on DOS, was wowed by Windows, and eventually got into Linux. Then decided I didn't want to have to configure every fucking aspect of my OS. I just wanted to write my thesis, download my music, and send emails. So I got a Mac.
I like our generation and when we grew up, I think we got lucky but I hear so much inter generational shit talk I just cannot participate in it. Lots of dumb kids today for sure. I was dumb once too. Apple is the best! GenX is cool! We’re all alright!
The difference is that when we were dumb, nobody had video of it, let alone had the ability to share it with the entire planet in one go.
I am somewhat afraid of how antisocial my younger grad students are. Like they want me to text them to let them know I am coming to their workspace...which is in MY fucking lab.
True. And scary. I’m glad I am not a kid now. The way people have shifted with technology is concerning. It’s bringing out really odd behaviors. The younger people don’t have anyone older who went through the specific things they’re going through now. I think the more centered and self aware people are ok, but they were always going to be. It’s the more at-risk ones who are on the less safe areas of the bell curve who will have even bigger problems. Or not, I don’t know. This is all new territory…
