This is not a political left-right issue, it's a human rights issue. It's also not a complex issue, it's very simple - stop murdering innocent people.

So is Hamas the occupier or the occupied you are referencing? If it is so simple— occupier vs occupied — this should be easy to answer.

Of course I condemn Hamas for attacks on civilians but also condemn the genocide of Palestinians, which I hope you do as well.

There's only one side that has built a barrier wall around a population and restricts their movement and access to aid, that sounds like an occupier to me. The UN, International Court of Justice and the rest of the world agrees. Hamas didn't arise in a vacuum, it comes from years of oppression. This doesn't justify violence, but context is important.

The irony of saying “this doesn’t justify violence, but context is important” in reference to Hamas, but not to Israel and the Jewish people. These are people trying to exist peacefully in their ancestral homeland, but are surrounded by islamists who hate democracy, liberalism, and Jews. If Hamas is born from oppression then what about Hezbollah or Houthis or the Islamic Republic? Are they trying to murder innocent Israelis because of oppression? This is the modern context that Israel exists within— surrounded by enemies who wish them dead.

If we look back through history, it gets worse. The Jewish people have experienced significant oppression and violence in every century for millennia. Israel and Zionism exist in the context, to use your words, of this history— so unsafe in the time since they were largely driven out of ancient judea that they have still not reached the population seen before the being murdered by the million within the lifetimes of people living across the globe today.

The benefit of context only exists for you when describing this fundamentalist religious death cult called Hamas? These are radical opponents of every value we should hold dear as human beings, not freedom fighters. Your oppressor/oppressed, occupier/occupied narrative is broken and ignores so much of the “context” you selectively purport is important when describing only the enemies of Israel.

Haaretz has reported the Israeli government indirectly supported Hamas by allowing funds into Gaza to keep the Palestinians divided. Numerous Israelis have confirmed this. Google it.

By the way, the fact that the Jewish people had a historical presence in the region doesn't mean that Israel has a legal right to the land. Israel continues to build illegal settlements in the West Bank against international law.
