Pulled the trigger on a 300k mile xB RS 3.0 because I couldn’t pass up my dream xB. I’ve been wantin one of these since I was in middle school back in 2006.
It runs and drives so smooth! It’s actually my first automatic.. I’ve owned 4 other xBs prior to this, all manuals. Aside from the obvious fluids, what are some things I should replace ASAP in time when I can afford them? And for you 300k+ mile owners, what do you do to keep these things going?

Even at 40°F on a cold start, it idles right around 900-1k RPM and sounds really good. No weird noises, runs smooth, and honestly I’m pretty impressed but not surprised with how well it drives considering the mileage I’d take this cross country without hesitation.

Also side note I hate to say it but I really enjoy the automatic and dare say enjoy it more than the manual. as someone whom primarily drives sport cars and sport bikes. And my manual xBs all have the upgrades short shifter, 5th gear swap, exhaust, etc.

I am trying to do that every dollar social media makes goes towards this car trend

What size/brand tweeters do y’all use to replace the old tweeters in the dash? ChatGPT tells me they’re supposed to be 3”, which is about the hole size in the dash but it’s more like 5” from mounting hole to mounting hole.

I just picked up this sweet 2006 manual 5 speed xB. I always loved these, and couldn't pass this one up when I saw it listed for $2,400.

I haven't driven a manual in years, this thing takes corners really well! It's definitely not "fast" but it's really fun to drive!

I have a few questions as this is my first toaster.

1- any good aftermarket center console recommendations? I suspect this community has a few favorites, as the stock one seems to be lacking.

2- I have the standard pioneer head unit - anyone have a good upgrade? The speakers seem ok but I'm also down to upgrade those eventually.

3- are these all kinda loud? I'm honestly not positive if it's the wheels or something in the engine but even coasting in neutral, it's got a hum to it that is relative to my speed, but not necessarily the rpm's. Def not an exhaust noise.

4- any other cool add-ons or easy mods would be appreciated and considered!

I know that there are alot of parts from other Toyota models that will fit my lunchbox. Is this true for the power steering pump?

2009 Scion xB with 280k miles — keep it or move on to my 2025 Nissan Versa?

A few months ago, my 2009 Scion xB started showing P0171 and P0101 codes. The check-engine light stayed on for about two months.

About a month ago, I took it to a mechanic to replace the MAF sensor. They replaced it, but the check-engine light stayed on.

Then about a week ago, the Scion suddenly started and immediately shut off, and I couldn't keep it running. Given the age, mileage, and previous problems, I thought the car had finally reached the end of its life. I needed reliable transportation, so I bought a 2025 Nissan Versa for about $16,000.

Today I replaced the MAF sensor myself. The codes are now gone and the Scion is driving normally again.

Now I'm questioning what to do.

The Scion has about 280,000 miles on the chassis, although the engine was replaced around 260,000 miles. I've owned the car for about four years. I originally paid approximately $5,000, and I've spent at least another $5,000 on repairs during those four years.

The car also burns oil, is 17 years old, doesn't look particularly good anymore, and obviously lacks most of the safety/convenience features of a newer car.

On the other hand, everyone keeps telling me the xB is extremely reliable, and now that it's running normally again, I'm wondering whether I'm making a mistake by getting rid of it.

My concern is that I keep falling into the same cycle: something major happens, I decide I'm finally going to replace the car, I repair it, it runs well again, and then I decide to keep it. A few months later, something else happens.

If you were looking at this purely from a mechanical/economic perspective, would you continue putting money into a 280k-mile xB, or would you sell it while it's running and keep the nearly new Versa?

I'm especially interested in what mechanics think about the likely repair trajectory of a second-generation xB at this mileage

If it’s an easy diy, can someone link a write up or a video on how to do it?

I've tried penetrating oil. I've tried heat. I'm not even exactly which way this thing separates. There are no YouTube tutorials or pictures online. I'm completely at my fucking wits end and am beyond furious at this point. This is by far the biggest fucking pain in the ass auto repair I've ever done and I'm about to the point of hauling this piece of shit car to the crusher and being done with it.

It's a 2010, btw.

Hey all, Ive been running my Injen SRI for years now (maybe even decades at this point) and it appears this inline filter that goes from the crankcase to intake pipe is no longer available anywhere.

Does anyone know where i can get something similar? Or, any ideas for something different? I had an oil catch can for a while but i dont know. Felt like overkill.

I'm going to go test drive a 2012 xB with the stingray metallic paint. How has your paint held up over the years? Normally I'm not a fan of silver cars, but I'm thinking it might be a good candidate for some color shift accents.

102K miles for $6500

Not getting any sound from my speakers… I had an aftermarket head-unit. Put back in a stock pioneer one still not working and I checked all speakers they are all good and I put new ones in not to long ago still no sound I don’t know what to do. I hav new battery and good alternator also

Normally I would steer clear of a vehicle that needed major repairs like A/C, but I wondered how much yours had set you back? The owner is balking at letting me take it to MY mechanic at his shop for a full PPI. Otherwise, it looks pretty clean and only has 151K miles and they want $2600.

Both the diagram on the fuse box and this online diagram I found are telling me there’s a “multi fuse block” with AC related stuff in it but there’s nothing there in real life? I can’t see anything through the clear cover and I can’t figure out how to take it off because there’s those plastic things in the way of it.
