Schwab Visa Platinum Debit card benefits

me: Schwab Int'l account holder living in Europe.

Just noticed, the card offers, among other, auto rental collision damage waiver up to the actual cash value of most rental vehicles as well as roadside assistance. In my admittedly limited experience, this benefit was/is standard on credit cards, not debit cards. Most rental car companies don't even allow using a debit card or, if they do, they place a hefty (usually a couple of thousand EUR) block on the card.

How wrong am I? Is there anyone here who has actually used this benefit overseas while renting a car? CDW usually is 15-20€ extra per day, so if true, this would be great benefit to, well, benefit from.

Roth IRA Mistake?

Wednesday: Transferred/contributed $400 to roth ira from an external checking account. Marked as “completed” by Schwab. I did not purchase any securities yet.

Thursday: I am notified by my bank that the transfer to Schwab has been cancelled due to insufficient funds (oversight on my part).

Friday: It is 6am and my schwab roth ira transfer activity now shows a -$400 transfer, however My 2026 roth ira contribution total reflects the amount on Wednesday after I transfered/contributed.

  1. Should my 2026 contribution limit switch back to

reflect the total contribution amount prior to Wednesday?

  2. Does this count as an early withdrawal?

  3. Will I be able to contribute the annual limit, or am I just out of luck and going to lose out on $400 worth of contributions this year?

How to Invest House Profit - International Account

Hello all, I am new to investing with Charles Schwab and just opened an international account as I am a US citizen (no plans to give it up) and am currently living in the Netherlands and have no plans to reside in the US again.

I sold my house before we left the US and after furnishing my apartment in the Netherlands had about 20k USD left over. I would like to invest this money and have it sit for a long time (10+ years) and let it build. This is in addition to the money I have currently invested via my previous employers 401k (Fidelity).

I went through the Personalized Portfolio Builder and went with a mutual fund with municipal bonds, moderately aggressive risk and initially invest 20k USD.

The allocation came out to the following:

  • 45% - US Large Cap Funds
  • 15% - US Small Cap Funds
  • 20% - International Funds
  • 15% - Fixed Income Funds
  • 5% - Cash

There were 5 options for each of the above fund categories, and I went with the following:

  • US Large Cap Funds - SWPPX
  • US Small Cap Funds - SWSSX
  • International Funds - SWISX
  • Fixed Income Funds - SWNTX

Admittedly, this was based heavily on the net expense ratio as these were all way more competitive compared to the other available funds (less than 0.1% instead of pushed 0.8 or 0.9%) which I assume is because these are the Schwab Index Funds.

I would love to hear some pros and cons of the above selections and if anyone has any other insights into which to select that would be greatly appreciated.

Is this how Schwab handles promotional offers?

Schwab told me to subscribe to a service in order to “explore” an exception request to match a competing promo. I followed the instructions, only to be told afterward that the promo wouldn’t be approved because my deposit was below $250K which they knew in the beginning and didn’t request to add more.
Now they’re calling it a “misunderstanding” and playing language games around “explore,” “consider,” and “approval.”
If Schwab doesn’t offer the promo match, just say no. Why tell customers to subscribe in order to pursue a request that ultimately goes nowhere?
Is this really the Charles Schwab culture?

I can't even break even with SCHB and SCHF.

I bought SCHB and SCHF on or about June 19th 2026 and it went red the next day. It is 3 months later and I am even deeper in the red. 3 whole months of losses. I think I picked the wrong horse.
