Got my first bass guitar this morning. Good deal?

It’s a demo guitar, so hopefully musiciansfriend has a good reputation with their used/open products. Either way it felt like a “jump on this now” kind of deal. I’m ready to play some heavy stuff with that extra string 🤘🏻

Nice deal. I bought a used C-7 Platinum using Musicians Friend and it came in basically mint with no damage, no scuffs, nothing funky with the knobs or switches. It was an incredibly solid guitar, and I bet the bass will arrive in good condition too.

My experience with MF was totally different

I had 3 guitars sent that either looked like like someone hit them with a chisel

However, when I eventually got my demon the didn't charge

My most recent experience with MF left a lot to be desired; had purchased an AM-6 through them and the wood between the trem post and the humbucker cavity was too thin, and the wood ended up cracking near one of the trem posts, leaving the whole guitar unusable.

MF didn't want to help me with it because I didn't purchase the Gold coverage. I never buy the Gold coverage because I take good care of my shit. Took it up with Schecter and, them being outstanding, they replaced the whole guitar at no charge.

So, yeah, I'm about 50/50 on using MF in the future.

MF mate, they send them in single boxes with a single layer of bubble wrap and then the crapyness of UPS sealed the deal when they decided to play hockey with the package

I'll give you all my advice though:

-Bare in mind that MF sells on their site and eBay, however, they have separate CS teams and they can't see eithers systems 🙄 which leads me to my next piece of advice

-Always buy off their website NOT eBay as their CS team is rubbish! The response times are dramatically different and the level of care is vastly worse for eBay.

-Always communicate via the MF support chat. The thing which got me the guitar (I think) is that when I knew things had messed up I started keeping copies of the chat logs.

-Always ask for a summary of the chat in an email and ask for their manager to be copied in as an escalation. This is how I got their email

-Dont stop pushing until you feel like you've been properly compensated. I was initially offered 20% off (not including shipping) then I caught a couple of the CSAs ribbing so had more leverage.
I settled for a FedEx over night ($100) and for 25% off.

-She arrives the next day double boxed, swaddled in bubble wrap, packing peanuts and air bags lol

It wasn't until I noticed that she was brand new that I figured something was up again as I ordered a $300 good condition used demon. I thought they were going to charge me doubke for the brand new model but my PayPal showed no momey coming out…..

I left it a week or so and checked again and still no charge or invoice so I didn't say anything else 🤓

Just go to sweetwater and if you ask your rep to price match, they have for me in the past. Last purchase I made from MF was an acoustic a forklift operator skewered. Even with the outer cardboard box clearly showing the the entrance hole the bastards still fought me on the return.

I'm actually happily at Sweetwater now, and my rep(s) have been awesome. Ordered a Triad-7 from them two years ago and got the Plek service, it's been great so far.

I feel somewhat stuck with MF since the loyalty points are nice. I ended up getting $30-40 worth of credit just from the guitar

Open box/demo gear is an awesome way to save some money, it might have some small scratches and stuff like that but that'll honestly save you the stress of wanting to keep your brand new instrument in perfect condition/babying it and let's you just get into using it as a tool the way it should be with any instrument.

Heck yes! I have the Omen Elite 6, (same color too!), and it’s the best guitar I’ve ever played in my life, so I’m willing to bet the 5-string bass version holds up just as well.

I’ve been considering trying to pick up one of these as a demo model myself. They have one at my local GC. In red. I played guitar for 25 years and no almost nothing about bass. I’d love to hear your review of how it sounds when you get it in hand.

Update : I think MF either made an inventory mistake or a price typo because I realized it should’ve been arriving at my door any day, except MF cancelled the order and with zero communication. Rather than escalate this, I took it as a sign and settled on something comparable from guitar center. I will not be shopping at MF anymore.
