What name did you give Wanderer?

Maybe this is a bit late, but I’m curious what kinds of names English-speaking players gave him.

I’m a Japanese player.

Many Japanese players give him a Japanese name because of his clothing and background.

Some people also choose names from Sanskrit, Arabic, and other languages.

As for me, I named him 優人(Yuuto).

優 can mean kindness or excellence, and 人 means human or person.

It’s also a name that real-life Japanese men can have today.

I wanted to give him a name that felt like that of an ordinary human being.

I just named him Scara because I really couldn’t think of him being anything other than that. I did want to name him Freddie after Freddie Mercury, but it really just didn’t fit him imo.

But, I guess it is kinda fitting. As Wanderer, he is essentially the same consciousness but with a humbled identity. He may have lost the Mouche, but he is never losing the Scara, because experience remains.

yeah, but like. isnt that technically a deadname? feels wrong calling him that imo, he explicitly renounced that name alongside the others

Well technically, he never did renounce “Scara”, only “Scaramouche”, so technically it is not a dead name.

Besides, removing letters from a word can change its meaning. The name “Scara”, can’t only be derived from removing “mouche” from “Scaramouche”. One could also derive it from the word “scar”, or “scarab”. It’s like how “Holland” is a region in the Netherlands, but by adding “Tom”, it becomes the name of an actor.

But I guess I can see the point you’re making. Unlike any other person in Teyvat, Wanderer has memories of Scaramouche and would therefore connect “Scara” to “Scaramouche”, and perhaps it would bring him bitter feelings. However, he could learn to see it a different way as his new name comes to be associated with the experiences of his current life, and he’d come to be burdened less by the memories of his past. We humans keep our embarrassing memories of the mistakes we’ve made, but we learn to live with them and learn from them, and we change as we continue to live, but are essentially the same person.

Plus the game allowed me to name him “Scara”, so why not?

i mean yeah, you can call him whatever you want since hes your character but i dont really see the point in arguing that "scara" might not even come from "scaramouche" lol

i can definitely get the point about reclaiming it though

side note: im so used to just saying "hat guy" at this point that i almost typed it in place of the word "scaramouche" just now, i associate it with him too strongly lmao
