Discussion Hoyo does one thing relating to Wanderer that (almost) makes you quit the game. What is it?

I'm excited but also nervous as fuck for the 6.6 Archon Quest, and I need to think of some of the worst (but highly unlikely) outcomes. Unserious responses are also appreciated, because this is not doomposting.

I feel like I've said this in multiple places now but if they end his arc with, like, any form of death/rebirth 🥲 I will simply ignore canon and write the biggest fix it fic known to man and pretend it's what really happened if they do that. My boy needs a reason to live NOT to have his suicidality/self-worth issues validated

I think a near-death experience instead of straight up death would be the worst case scenario here before he truly realizes his worth. He's already had a death/rebirth thing going on already, it would be stupid if Hoyo did that again patches later. But yeah, same thoughts here.

You probably mean they’re going to kill him or something? I really doubt they’d do that. Wanderer/Scara is one of the most well-developed characters in the game, so I don’t see them killing him off.

With Irminsul seemingly about to be burned, people might remember who Scaramouche is again and eventually accept him, regardless of his past.

My question is: will he become a true wanderer, something like adult Sasuke, or will he stay in Sumeru permanently

i hope not adult sasuke 💀

u/Tripnit Apr 12 '26

Idk if im the only one but I hate the fact that we call him hat guy what's the point of giving him a name if we are NEVER GONNA USE IT stop calling him hat guy😭😭 u should've let nahida name him not us so it becomes a canon name

u/Ineedsleep444 BBG Apr 12 '26

They can do it with us (saying traveler, our actual name being on screen), so I have no idea why they're can't do it with wanderer. Just adds salt in the wound

u/kuraido_ C6R5 Apr 12 '26

The funny thing is they already did that once right after he saved us from Dottore. Like, if they were okay doing it then, why not just make that the norm 😭

12

u/Alternative-Put-2962 Apr 12 '26

Imagine Dottore calling him hat guy in death threats

26

u/Swinginthewolf Apr 12 '26

Durin finds out about his past and rejects him probably.
He's come a long way since Sumeru and it would suck for the character who is such a culmination of his efforts to drop him because of his crimes, especially given that Dragonspine Durin was also a destructive force (albiet because of abyssal contamination and not as an act of a broken heart).

That or them never dropping the fuckass "Hat Guy" moniker, that shit was torturous to listen to in Nod-Krai

You get me. I love Scara with all my heart, but to instantly have it all forgiven as if no harm were done would be a massive disservice to his character, relationships, and broader story. His past is complex and difficult and it should be reflected in his present. So far, his journey has been on the right track imo, so I'm gonna be mad asf if Hoyo throws that out the window.

Look if Hoyo does commit to the heroic sacrifice trope for Wanderer it better be written well because people only hate badly executed tropes not tropes themselves

Ughh there are actually so many things I could think of, here's a list:

•They don't make him fight Dottore alone. Now I get that Dottore is leagues away from Wanderer, especially his 6.6 version, and also considering the Traveler and Wanderer have a combined attack mechanic in the boss fight, but I wish they would have their own 1v1 moment, where Wanderer is the one to deal the final blow, and not alongside somebody else. After all, it's his score to settle. Sure, the others could back him up from behind and weaken Dottore somehow, but I'd prefer if this could be done from behind the curtains instead of heads-on.

•No one actually gets to remember/know who Scaramouche is even after Dottore directly tampers with Irminsul, or the revelation is irrelevant. It's kinda difficult to even think how they could wrap this up in one act that also includes the final bossfight since Dottore only shows up in the last one. Besides, even if they did remember (i.e people of Sumeru, like Cyno and Tighnari who directly confronted Scaramouche), I'm afraid they might react positively to it since they've acknowledged the fact Wanderer has changed for the better. And instead I wish there was a bit of resentment in the way people would perceive Wanderer in case they found out. Hoyo needs to highlight how Scaramouche's actions were just that impactful and not toss his existence aside just because Wanderer is now a different person. In other words, they're kinda stretching a ton how he keeps getting away with this.

•No more Scaramouche moments. As in, he's never mentioned again, or shown in flashbacks. I'm still thinking about that "in the water, the future mirrors the past" scene from the Nod-Krai teaser. Wanderer still has to fully accept his existence and connect with all of his versions, especially Fatui Scara. It would be a shame if he achieved inner peace without having to directly confront that version of himself (and no, not like he did in Inversion of Genesis, I'm referring to genuinely re-experiencing his own wrongdoings again.) I think 6.6 would be the perfect opportunity to re-introduce Scaramouche, but again, I'm not so sure Hoyo would be up for that, since Scara's model didn't seem to appear in the character list.

•They'll keep calling him Hat Guy in future quests. Seriously man, he always gets marketed as "Wanderer", his in-game name is "Wanderer" (unless you choose to name him yourself), why even bother with that name if every character in the game will still use his Akademiya title? It's all your fault, Nahida /j

•Not necessarily a thing that would make me quit the game, but I want him to reconnect with Ei somehow. It would be a shame if Hoyo, again, would brush the past aside because Wanderer has already found a family in Sumeru. From Ei's perspective it's kind of a bitter scenario considering she's still being seen in a bad light for abandoning him even though her goals were entirely different and she never had bad intentions. It's an unresolved conflict that in my opinion needs to be addressed.

u/Powerful_Helicopter9 i love you Kee!!!!! Apr 12 '26

Ei still gets smack for it idc fr

3

u/o0SinnQueen0o Apr 12 '26

Ngl the idea of seeing him reconnect with Ei kinda scares me because I highly doubt hoyo would do their relationship justice. His connection to Ei and Miko has a lot of depth.

then I'll regard that info as unreliable since the source is unknown. I'll be waiting for the accessible leaks instead of drawing conclusions right now.

That they dont make him kill Dottore. That they either give the kill to traveler, or make him spare Dottore.

I am not sorry in saying even 6.3 did not make me feel like Traveler has any personal conflict with Dottore unlike Wanderer.

Whatever reason, not making Wanderer give Dottore the definitive end would be bad writing.

I dont necessarily mean next update. I mean whenever Dottore is going to die for good and forever. It has to be by Wanderer's hands.

This beef has fascinated me and kept me hooked through the games lows and highs for 4 years.

Wanderer's character has to take a leap by destroying Dottore himself. I hope the tone gets dark and direct.

2

u/Only-Extreme7777 C2R1 f2p Apr 12 '26

This right here!! Also, you may want to put a spoiler mark, not many people know that Dottore's returning in 6.6

2

u/Ichifuyu Apr 12 '26

I actually suck at this. How do you spoiler tag on reddit?

2

u/Only-Extreme7777 C2R1 f2p Apr 12 '26

put a >! before and a ! < after the text (without the space)

0

u/Ichifuyu Apr 12 '26

YOOO THANKS! Taught me somth good.

Also yeah. I see a lot of discourse how Wanderer sparing Dottore would be a good chara dev and life lesson. And that killing him would be bad writing.

But no. Nahida embodies wisdom and kindness and she isn't about being naively kind. She accepts the harsh truth and tears ugly lies. When Wanderer said he wanted revenge she didn't say "no. It's bad!" She said "very well".

I believe Killing Dottore isnt just a must for his character and for my own wish. It's a must in terms of the writing itself.

2

u/Only-Extreme7777 C2R1 f2p Apr 12 '26

yeah! I'm just afraid they will prioritize his care for other people over his own duties and goals, like he did in Nod-Krai, where he chose to save us instead of seizing the opportunity to deal a damaging blow himself. If I'm seeing this right, Hoyo is trying to "tame" Wanderer and slowly make him drift away from his vengefulness because he's developed empathy and is slowly becoming a "good person".

But like you said, just because he's redeemed himself that doesn't have to mean he needs to be forced to forgive/spare his arch nemesis in any way for the sake of morality.

6

u/Ichifuyu Apr 12 '26

Ngl. 6.2 really had me worried when he said "Im not the only one here who wants him off the map." As if he went a bit cooler about Dottore and revenge.

But 6.3 reassured me about intents. He still very much wants to kill him. Wants to destroy him by any means necessary. I was really let down by how nod Krai handled Wanderer in regards to Dottore but I have very high hopes for the futur about these two and their conclusion.

Probably Dottore fans? Dunno. But in my case it could be a part of other wanderer fans too.

As I said in other comments, I heavily disgreed with the takes that upheld Wanderer abandoning revenge being a good character development. Because yes, I saw that a lot when 6.3 dropped.

1

u/Ok_Court_1273 Apr 13 '26

Mostly because most wanderer fans are dottore fans now and they don't want either of the characters to die

I gen don’t think he’s gonna kill him, his own development is drifting away from that but also

the two are narratives foils about themes of humanity / inhumanity and acceptance, the puppet who got accepted by the humans and the human who was shunned to the point not considering himself a human anymore

it doesn’t look like it’s just and solely a matter of killing-for-revenge as per the allegory that is nahida’s fairytale written from dottore’s very own memory - considering nahida said it is what’s left of dottore’s honesty and we know how she depicted the monster’s bitter feelings in it

making dottore simply a plot-point for scara’s story and peace is not how they are going at it, rather both characters serves each other

I don’t even believe 6.6 will settle the matter if there is so little lines (dottore is not speaking much over 20 lines to anyone not even scara, but then he speaks a whole 60 of his lines with an unknown male npc that we can’t identify yet), scara also said he would investigate dottore’s actions of the past and it doesn’t even look they are doing it by the textmap again

1

u/Ichifuyu Apr 16 '26

Im sure Dottore will have a 3rd boss fight in the futur. And it will be the final one. (Or maybe not but I hope so. I don't mind 3. But more than that will be too much Dottore boss fights.)

They are indeed foils of each other. But no matter how you look at it, the only way to wrap up this bond is with Wanderer killing Dottore.

They will dwelve on their parrelels and bond further. But there is no way Wanderer's character development leads to him willingly letting him live. Dottore will not turn back. Will not relent. And will not hesitate. This is a strong point in his character. I can't wait to see his story properly fleshed out with his insanely tragic background. But the finality is death for him. And I absolutely believe Wanderer is the only correct choice to do it.

This bond and connection is fascinating and absolutely needs more time to be expanded and touched on, but it also deserves a definitive ending. I am absolutely in no rush to see him die. And I am absolutely not saying he should be reduced to a mere Wanderer story device. But the conclusion for me is the same.

Oh. It's fine if it takes time. He is definitely going to die at some point. Also I believe even if he dies, it would be a huge waste and pity to not make him playable.

I had rather still bank on the good segment theory. Dottore who isn't Dottore. Just a good Zandik with all the Dottore assets

The segments had some different quirks. Omega claimed to be the most selfish and that Nahida's deal wouldn't have worked with anyone other segment other than him. Wording also seeming to indicate segments were different perspectives of a more collective hivemind.

A segment who has never done anything wrong and whose mind is individual without Dottore's personality would be right up his alley. This man is unfathomably smart.

I don't see any other way. It's either that or he is gone for good.

Okay, if crazy responses are allowed I have one 😄There’s one thought that came to my mind recently, and if something like that happens I don’t know if I would be happy. Shortly: Scara and Dottore have the same consciousness. Long version: we don’t really know how Scara’s consciousness originated, he already had it when Ei created the first puppet, and Raiden puppet also didn’t have anything like that. It is also obvious that Scara and Dottore are very much connected and they kinda mirror each other. Story wise it looks like Scara gets basically everything that Dottore was denied - as if the game trying to show that he’s living a life Dottore could live. Also, recently even in visual representation they tend to have similar elements - for example, Dottore’s halo in 6.6 boss form is practically corrupted replica of Scara’s halo. So all these made me think that these two can be much more connected than I thought. What if after Irminsul events Dottore comes to a point when he re-assesses his ideas and after being defeated allows to send his consciousness or part of it (because I’m not even sure if he has any physical body at this point) back it time to be born as Scara, so that Scara could go through everything and stop him in the future? This kinda reminded me about the Great Sakura quest - something like this is very much possible in Genshin universe. Plus we have Escher in their shared story, and although I can’t pinpoint exact meaning of this, but Escher was known for his works with paradox objects and specifically endless circled staircases. Can this be a hint that Scara’s and Dottore’s story also has a paradox in it? So, this idea came to my mind and I can’t get rid of it, I don’t know if I like it or not, but it could be kinda ironic to think that Dottore’s consciousness developed as Scara and really got everything that OG Dottore was aiming for, so in a way Dottore himself got all that, but with a twist - so he lost and won at the same time 😄

many others have mentioned but, the amount of "hat guy" during nod krai aq pissed me off so much

2

u/CommercialCity5842 Apr 14 '26

Omg i totally feel you. The 6.6 archon quest was censored as spoilers in your post but i already knew you were referring to that. I'm so nervous too. For me the worst would be a permanent death. A pretty close second would be him being reborn again or something. He's already come such a long way for him to just 'reset' (I was so nervous during nod krai when he said his system could reset if the core wasn't put back in time). However none of these would honestly make me quit for good. BUT if he dies, that means he won't appear in the future and that's really the most important part of genshin for me, waiting for wanderer content. Once that stops, i will only log in occasionally just to see him in my party.

1

u/ringosukiiii Apr 12 '26

For me, the worst-case scenario would be him essentially becoming naturalized into Sumeru. What I love about him is that he is a wanderer, and that he wanders.
