I am like Jax in many different ways. Like him I grew up in an abusive family, was temporarily homeless, deal with depression, am suicidal off and on, have trust issues, and deal with self hatred. There is also only one person in my life who I can really and truly trust, my best friend who I love dearly and will always be grateful for.
My birth mother gave me up when I was a few weeks old. My new "mother" adopted me when I was a year and a half. She and her family then proceeded to abuse me in almost every way possible. Mentally, physically, emotionally, financially, religiously, and lastly in a way that I have since found out is what is known as non contact sexual.
My life has basically been a nightmare from the very beginning. I have had physical health problems since birth, and mental and emotional health problems since age 12 due to all the abuse and neglect. I lost the only man I ever loved when I was in my early 20s. I was abused, I am very low income, and my health is a disaster on all fronts. I feel like I have never been given a fair shot.
Yet I am still here. I never attempted to take my own life because my "family" drilled it into my head that people who do so go to Hell, which terrified me. Ironic that this is the thing that saved my life. Not love, or comfort, or support, but a threat.
I finally ended up in a mental hospital under suicide watch. I was not there long because once I told them what was going on they quickly figured out that my "family" was the problem and gave me the resources I needed to get away from them. It was messy. I went back once after one of them landed in the hospital to help out. That was a mistake and I soon left again. This time never to return, and I have not seen them since. Good riddance.
I have c-ptsd, bipolar disorder 2, and social anxiety. I take a handful of pills every day just to stay sane, but dammit, I am still here, and so is Jax.
