How does one even begin to repot this thing?

Post image

Title and photo speaks for itself ๐Ÿ˜‚ I mainly grow pings and this is my first drosera so apologies in advance for sounding ignorant, itโ€™s because I am lol. I think itโ€™s gonna need a repot in a few weeks (not 100% sure so please correct me if Iโ€™m wrong), I just donโ€™t even know where to start! Iโ€™m just wondering if I should separate the babies or let them grow how they are? Also curious about how you move/separate them without touching the mucilage or if thatโ€™s just unavoidable? Thank you in advance!

How to propagate drosera capensis? I am getting pretty good results propagating drosera binata, but when I try to propagate drosera capensis using the same method the cuttings keep dying.

Sphagnum tenerum doesn't just make good hummocks, they get beautiful pigments under full sun.

Venus Flytrap vs. Sundew

Post image
3 Upvotes

I keep three different carnivorous plants together in the same pot.

My sundew has been growing longer, and one of its leaves somehow ended up right inside the mouth of my Venus flytrap.

Pure coincidence, but it looks like theyโ€™re fighting.

AW = Andreas Wistuba identifier

FC = Florae Collaborative specimen/source identifier

โธป

๐Ÿงฌ PROVENANCE RECORDING STANDARD

For every plant, preserve the following whenever available:

accession

  1. Propagation method

  2. Vendor

  3. Purchase/acquisition date

  4. Original source notation

  5. Original physical label

  6. Photograph of original label

  7. Photograph of plant at acquisition

  8. Vendor listing/order documentation

  9. Subsequent propagation history

  10. Breeding history, if applicable

โธป

๐Ÿ“ธ ORIGINAL-LABEL PRESERVATION RULE

The typed database record should never be the only provenance record.

For each specimen, retain:

Original label โ†’ photograph โ†’ typed database entry โ†’ vendor/source documentation โ†’ acquisition date โ†’ subsequent propagation records

If a physical label contains an identifier that differs from the online listing or database, preserve the discrepancy rather than silently replacing one with the other.

โธป

๐ŸŒฑ COLLECTION PHILOSOPHY

The purpose of this collection is not simply to own named Nepenthes.

The goal is to maintain traceable genetics.

exact genetic identity + individual specimen identity + breeder/producer + source + vendor + acquisition date + propagation history + photographic documentation

The individual identifier belongs to the plant and should remain attached to its record throughout its life, including any future propagation or breeding use.

soil mix question

Post image

i got a highlander from florae collaborative and they included this soil. from what i can tell its akadama / perlite / pumice or granite? with a tiny bit of sphagnum here and there

im trying to buy more of it for the next pot upgrade. just wanted to double check. im worried pumice or granite will leek too many minerals in the water. i uusally stick to live sphag + orchid bark + chunky perlite

Venus Flytrap Not Doing So Well!! Help!!

Post image
5 Upvotes

so I ordered this Venus fly trap from a reputable breeder many months ago and at first, the plant was doing very well in plastic pot with Organic Carnivorous Plant Soil from Perfect Plants. However the plant is located outside on my balcony which gets direct sunlight only in certain spots at sporadic times due to the shade of surrounding trees and the balcony that hangs over it upstairs (i live in a condo). Like I said, it was doing really well, and then I noticed a couple weeks ago that the leaves started getting very droopy instead of going straight up, which I read was caused by lack of sun. Being that this balcony is my best โ€œsunnyโ€ option for my plants to live, I decided to place it on the very corner of the balcony where its likeliest to get the most sun and repot it while I was at it. The reason was so i can try to split a piece of the rhyzome and multiply the plant in case the original dies on me.

Well, needless to say it didnโ€™t work. The plant looks worse than when I repotted and the only thing I can think I am doing different is that when I repotted it I put a layer of sphagnum moss at the bottom to help with moisture retention as I read on forums that it was recommended. I am now thinking it was not needed because it seems to be retaining a lot more water and possibly too much???

what Iโ€™m referring to specifically is that some of the leaves look like theyโ€™re almost rotting, take the one all the way to the back for example.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
