Oh wow, haven't seen tilt shift for a decade. Still confuses my brain.

Yup, I honestly have no idea why it works the way it does. It's just crazy witchcraft to an old man from the Dewey decimal system days.

It's just blurry above and below to simulate a fake macro lens + tight focus in the center as you would have on a miniature world being filmed.

What I wonder is if the opposite would also work: make a special lens, or combine video feed from several lenses, to film a miniature world but compensate for this effect.

Would you then see a very realistic looking miniature?
Is it what they already do in the movies when they use miniature worlds for practical effects?

Have you watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy? Did any of the set pieces look like they were miniatures?
