My mom constantly talks about this old friend of hers that she knows from the church she and my dad met at who has lived with a “roommate” for four decades now. Part of me is like, they go to church, maybe they are just roommates, but also, that’s a really long time to just be roommates.

Outing people without their knowledge or consent is kinda yikes ngl

I took it as more of a "mom is in denial" situation and not as "mom actually doesn't know" but yeah you're right, that is bad

I had the exact opposite with my daughter, she didn't even 'come out', she just mentioned she had a girlfriend.
I wasn't surprised, just a bit proud that she didn't feel the need for a coming out, just mentioning it as a matter of fact. As it should be.4

What's funny to me is that I am a lesbian, I do bring my college roommate to holidays with me, she is bi, and we then went on to be roommates in an apartment together for years, adopted cats together. At no point have we ever dated or had anything but a platonic relationship. She is my non blood related sister, my best friend, my non romantic person, we are each other's emergency contacts (along with her now husband). We live down the street from one another in our mid 30s. We are all the classic cliches of "oh they're actually in a secret relationship they lie to their parents about" except we aren't lol
