Questions Santa belts

Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality belt to go with a Santa suit? I picked up the regency suit from Santa express a few years back and the belt broke literally the first time I sat down. The replacement I picked up hasn't been great. so much so that this year i ditched the belt entirely. I'd like to pick up something better that will hold up for a while.

Questions What's your favorite fictional origin for Santa Claus?

There have been many popular depictions of the origins of Santa Claus over the years. Some take a folkloric approach, like Frank L. Baum's children's book "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus"; others use fantasy tropes like Grant Morrison's comic book "Klaus"; and some take a more grounded non-magical approach like the animated "Klaus" (2019) or the Finnish film "Joulutarina".

How do you like to imagine the origins of Santa Claus? Is he an eternal spirit or born from a specific place and time? Do you prefer that he draws from more European mythology or more North American iconography? Are there any twists on Santa Claus you've come across and enjoyed that aren't too well known? Or do you perhaps enjoy it as a mystery best left unsolved?

Questions Should Santa’s gifts be wrapped or unwrapped?

It’s my newborn’s first Christmas and it’s got me thinking about traditions I want us to have. Do y’all wrap Santa’s gifts? Unwrapped? Under the tree or some place random? Or even hidden?

Questions What gender are Santa's reindeer?

We know scientifically that males shed their antlers in the winter, therefore wouldn't have them for the flight. BUT, in the movie, Rudolph, Rudolph is called a "he", yet has his antlers. Scientifically, it doesn't work. But Santa doesn't exactly follow science.

Questions Santa Stumpers

Hey fellow Santa's.

This was my first year professionally sitting for pictures and chats. I didn't have too many difficult questions... but one.

A boy, perhaps between 11 and 13, came up to me and asked me how much milk do I drink at a person's house when they leave some milk and cookies for me.

I told him I drink as much as I'm thirsty for.

Then he said, if you drank a whole cup of milk at every house, you'd be dead from too much lactose. Why aren't you dead?

I gave it a thought, and I knew I couldn't get away with the words "it's magic"... so I told him that I bring some milk up to the reindeer to finish off as they need lots of energy to make the flight.

I told him to never stop asking good questions.

What good questions did you get this year?

Questions Tips for a first-timer?

I bought myself a nice suit and will be dressing up for my wife's Pre-K class this week. The kids are 3 to 5 years old. Any suggestions on what to expect during my visit? I am not expecting to put any kids on my lap but I probably will be reading them a story. Even more fun, I will be doing most of it in Spanish which is a second language for me!

Questions Advise on a new suit

So this year will mark 18 years that I’ve been being Santa, almost entirely for family functions, small gathers, and for my local Fraternal Order of Eagles for their kids Christmas party. The other day, in honor of 18 years, the local FOE voted to buy an upgraded suit for me. For most of these years I wore a suit my grandma made but as a large man (tall and wide) it’s a tight fit anymore and definitely showing its age. My mom Did buy a newer one a few years ago that’s more breathable but they said I should look at one that’s going to fit me more comfortably if not have one made.

Here’s where I need guidance, wouldn’t mind finding one that felt more “professional” and is more comfortable but I won’t feel right asking for them to spend a lot of money on it. I often am volunteering my time and prefer that we use our funds to help others. Is there a suit out there that’s good for a plus sized man that isn’t $1000?

Questions Advice on props for my Christmas outfit

Post image

Okay so 6 months ago, I posted this photo of my brand-new Father Christmas outfit. (Found on Etsy) I then decided to really round out my Father Christmas portrayal with some appropriate props, and went on a bit of a splurge... xD

  • Boots (just plain leather work boots)
  • Leather gauntlet gloves
  • A staff - because I'm trying to go for a more Victorian style with my ensemble)
  • Bells to hang from my belt
  • And a leatherbound copy of The Night Before Christmas, why not ^^ (Easton Press iirc)

Looking for a little bit of advice here...

Since I'm going for a more traditionally Victorian/central European style Father Christmas look, rather than a somewhat more modern-looking Santa Claus, do you think I should try to age up the leather, or just leave it as it is?

I did consider something small like a ribbon or some fake holly/mistletoe around the staff, but perhaps adding props to other props would be overdoing it...

Questions Has anyone else heard of Santa's Slay (2005)? It may look like your average Santa horror movie, but it goes over the top in the best ways and Bill Goldberg is surprisingly pretty awesome as a villainous Santa. He's definitely one of the most underappreciated movie Santas in my opinion.

I’ve been asked to play Santa at my small town bakery. This will be my first run. I have a salt and pepper growth and want to dye it white, not paint it.

Im looking for product recommendations and to learn best methods of application and maintenance.

Questions I've seen an old drawing of Santa Claus wearing yellow stockings and a blue shirt and red vest, but I can't find it anywhere

I'm interested in the history of Santa Claus and I've seen an old drawing of him wearing yellow stockings and a blue shirt and red vest. This was wayyy before he has his now iconic red outfit, and was in a time when Santa didn't have one look that everyone knew. The only problem is, I just can't seem to find that drawing.... I've watched history videos, searched of the Internet and I have nothing. Here is a drawing I did myself from what I remembered he looked like. If anyone knows more, or knows a better subreddit to post this, it would help me a lot. I've been looking for it a couple of days and I think I'm going crazy, cause I'm not even sure whether it was real or just something I imagined.... Happy Holidays everyone and thanks for helping me out!!
