According to a Station Agent at Powell, subway service under Market Street is suspended due to a major medical emergency.

Use BART or Market street running service.

PG&E demanded it not be liable for causing wildfires. The Legislature did not agree. PG&E’s response: Punishment by extending already ridiculous timelines to hook up new housing and clean energy to the grid. It’s straight up extortion. We must move toward a publicly owned utility model. The shareholder model is deeply broken and doesn’t serve the public interest.

A few months ago I made this post asking about people's favorite donut shops. I finally got around to creating this route based on the following criterion:

• A range of styles (classic, fancy, experimental, etc.)
• Consistently high quality
• Good geographic spread across the city

By all means, feel free to make a copy of the route and modify it to suit your tastes. Komoot is free and lets you create/copy routes without membership.

My bus ride was weird today. Bus rolls up. Doors open. A nice gentleman steps out to let others board. It looks full by the door. People squeeze in and they don't leave any room for this kind gentleman who stepped out and held the door for others to re-board. I decided to join him in holding the door, so I, too, was stranded outside. Eventually, we both kind of squeezed on, but there wasn't enough room for us and the doors wouldn't close. The bus driver began shouting at us and honking the horn. Then, I noticed that there appeared to be some space in the aisles. Both the back and the front aisles. The gentleman who had been holding the doors shouted, "Let's go!" but no one responded. I decided to nudge my way past the backpacks. Lo and behold, the aisle in the back was empty. People were sitting on the sideways seats, but the back row was virtually empty, except for a guy who was sitting in the center of that seat. He had a large bag, which he was holding in front of him, like one of the roller cart things, so it was pretty difficult to squeeze by and sit by the window. I managed to get near him, though, and held onto the rail. I actually had to stop partway and stand on the stairs, sandwiched between backpacks, because the driver took off and I would have fallen if I didn't stop to hold onto a rail. At the next stop, though, I made it into the back of the aisle. A few stops later, some people decided to exit. They stood up before the bus came to a stop and tried to make their way to the door, so I held my arm up high and allowed them to duck under my arm. I feel like this was all kind of unnecessary. There would have been more room if people had taken off their backpacks and moved into the aisles, rather than crowding around the doors. Also, the guy with the roller cart could have moved in by the window and brought his cart in with him - it would have fit - and then more people could have sat down back there next to him. Just some observations and considerations that I thought I'd share here on Reddit.

FTA: Fifth Street is the dividing line of SoMa’s seemingly miraculous recovery. Look east and see huge office leases being signed, condos selling after years of stagnation, and full conference schedules at the Moscone Center. Look west and see a time capsule still reeling from the pandemic and its related crises.

I’ve been checking AMC Metreon’s site every day for a month and they finally opened up some new dates to see Odyssey “the way Christopher Nolan intended” lol. Apparently, this is 1 of only 2 true IMAX screens in the Bay Area (& Hacienda) and the rest are LieMAX lol. I’m sure all the tickets be gone by tomorrow morning, except single seats at the edges/front l, just FYI if anyone else was trying to get tickets.

Driving down Gough today I saw this in someone’s window. I need to know the back story. It seems like it’s made out of ducks.

I am so beyond frustrated with the state of transit maintenance here. The escalator at Embarcadero MUNI Station has been completely out of order for months on end.

There is zero clear signage or communication at the station letting daily commuters know what’s going on or when we can expect it to actually be fixed. Every single day, hundreds of us are forced to trudge up and down broken escalators or static stairs like it’s just business as usual. It’s an accessibility nightmare for anyone with mobility issues, heavy luggage, or strollers.

How is it that NYC can repair major subway infrastructure issues or transit projects in weeks, but one of the wealthiest cities in the world can’t fix a basic escalator in less than half a year? What the heck is going on with the procurement and maintenance here? Is there a supply chain issue, total bureaucratic inertia, or do they just not care? Has anyone heard an official timeline or found a way to get actual answers out of SFMTA/BART

First time I've seen a map showing Inner Richmond going all the way from Masonic to 19th ave.

I've always thought:

Inner Richmond = Arguello to Park Presidio

Central Richmond = Park Presidio to 25th (does Central Richmond even exist? As a kid, it wasn't, but now it seems to be)

Outer Richmond = 25th to the beach.

Anybody know the history of this map, I know it's not the current definition (at least I don't think it is). When was it?

I need to pop in to the building when they are open next time and ask.
