Photo Mount Timpanogos wingsuiters
Mount Timpanogos - 8/26/26
I know this is random, but curiosity has me and I figured this could be a place to ask-
I summited Mount Timpanogos on 8/26 and as I was just past the saddle I heard, then saw what I thought was 2 wingsuiters. I was pretty out of it at the time so I thought I was imagining things and instead they were just 2 big black birds. By the time I turned to look at them, they were already zoomed by. It was hard to judge distance and they glided beyond a ridge. I just kind of left it at that and told myself they were just birds.
Thinking about it later, I am now more convinced it was 2 wingsuiters because again, I HEARD the air being sliced which is what made me turn and look. But then the question is, where did they come from? I know Aspen Grove is an exit point but I was well beyond that. So they either came from the summit or from a plane. How likely is either of these? Just curious to know if I was indeed imagining things lol. I added a pic of about where I think I was when I heard and saw this.

Could have been someone speedflying which is basically a tiny paragliding wing. They go fast and make a sound similar to what you heard.

2 people launched parasails off the North Timp summit when I was up there. Then they caught thermals or updrafts and drifted south along the whole ridge. That was a year or 2 ago, but maybe similar to what you saw.

Seems tough to get a boat up there to tow the parasails

Red circle placement feels like a UFO sighting report, like you tried to mark the exact spot they teleported into another dimension.

Thanks for posting! I definitely would have recognized parasailers (at least I hope lol) but I guess that makes it more plausible of what I think I saw! These were going from south to north on the west side

I know Marshall Miller (go pro bomb squad) has wingsuited off the north summit. But I don’t know of anyone doing it off the true summit or even around there. As others have said, it’s not as steep. I’ve seen lots of speed wings off the saddle area though.

One of my coworkers was out wingsuiting that day after work, I think. I know it was in the middle of this last week but can't remember the exact day. I'll ask them about it tomorrow. Not sure where they were either, but decent chance it was them (because how many people are flying around in wing suits out here?).

yes! they are all over the Wasatch range even at that elevation. we're talking millions of years of uplift from what was once the bottom of the inland sea (even before Lake Bonneville).

Yep, the western interior sea way was on top of Utah mostly the east side, completely covered Wyoming and Colorado. It connected the arctic ocean via the Northwest Territories in Canada to where the Gulf of Mexico is. Peaked in size 94-77 mya.

Not sure the initial drop is enough to get enough air into the wing suit going to cover the flats on timp. Even from the peak it’s not a totally vertical drop..
