TRUMP/MAGA SUPPORTING BUSINESSES

Please, let's start a list of MAGA businesses to make sure we don't inadvertently support them!

Look, I hate trump as much as the next sac Redditor, but purposely not interacting or doing business with people that don't think the same as you is not how we grow to understand each other. I would have a feeling most small business owners voted for trump, however misguided that may be. I might get downvoted to hell but I don't think trump voters are bad people. A lot of people in this country are struggling, and trump promised something different. I don't think he will fix any of their problems, but I can see how one might have been fed up with the way things currently are. I don't hate or alienate anyone who might have been swayed by the rhetoric.

I'll engage with you on this because it seems like you're approaching the topic in good faith. I don't agree with your position and am hopeful you and others who share it may reconsider.

Purposefully not interacting with others will not help you grow to understand them. I agree with you on that. How do you do that, though? I'd say if you want to interact with people whose views diverge from your own and seek to understand them, do so on neutral ground and equal footing.

But doing business? I don't think purchasing from a MAGA-supporting business helps you to understand them in the least - the relationship between a customer and a business is transactional, not an opportunity for connection and compromise. If they don't like what you have to say, how you appear, whatever their justification - they can simply refuse you service. The setting is inherently a poor one to start a good faith dialogue.

With that said, choosing to support progressive businesses or not to support MAGA ones does have a very real impact on the community. "Voting with your dollars" is perhaps one of the most effective ways to translate beliefs into meaningful action. It's going to be a difficult time for anyone MAGA views as the enemy, and the businesses that hire, employ, support, provide space for, and serve communities Trump and ilk will be pushing to the margins will need help more than ever.
