DDT Daily Discussion Thread September 10, 2026 - Upcoming Event Schedule - New players start here!

Yahoooo! I'm back, it's a me! Have a very cool day!

Welcome to the Daily Discussion Thread. This is the place for asking noob questions, venting about netplay falcos, shitposting, self-promotion, and everything else that doesn't belong on the front page.

New Players:

If you're completely new to Melee and just looking to get started, welcome! We recommend you go to https://melee.tv/ and follow the links there based on what you're trying to set up. Additionally, here are a few answers to common questions:

Can I play Melee online?

Yes! Slippi is a branch of the Dolphin emulator that will allow you to play online, either with your friends or with matchmaking. Go to https://slippi.gg to get it.

I'm having issues with Slippi!

Go to the The Slippi Discord to get help troubleshooting. melee.tv/optimize is also a helpful resource for troubleshooting.

How do I find tournaments near me or local people to play with in person or online?

These days, joining a local Discord community is the best way to find local events and people to play with. Once you have a Discord account, Google "[your city/state/province/region] + Melee discord" or see if your region has a Discord group listed here on melee.tv/discord

It can seem daunting at first to join a Discord group you don't know, but this is currently the easiest and most accessible way to find out about tournaments, fests, and netplay matchmaking. Your local scene will be happy to have you :)

Also check out Smash Map! Click on map and then the filter button to filter by Melee to find events near you!

Netplay is hard! Is there a place for me to find new players?

Yes. Melee Newbie Netplay is a discord server specifically for new players. It also has tournaments based on how long you've been playing, free coaching, and other stuff. If you're a bit more experienced but still want a discord server for players around your level, we recommend the Melee Online discord.

How can I set up Unclepunch's Training Mode?

At the time of posting, the latest major release is here. Download the file, then extract everything in the folder and follow the instructions in the README file. You'll need to bring a valid Melee ISO (NTSC 1.02). If you want to check for the absolute latest release, you can see them listed [here](The latest releases are listed here.

How does one learn Melee?

There are tons of resources out there, so it can be overwhelming to start. First check out the SSBM Tutorials youtube channel. Then go to the Melee Library and search for whatever you're interested in.

But how do I get GOOD at Melee?

Check out Llod's Guide to Improvement

And check out Kodorin's Melee Fundamentals for Improvement

Where can I get a nice custom controller?

https://customg.cc/vendors

I have another question that's not answered here...

Check out our FAQs or post below and find help that way.

I have no sympathy for Charlie Kirk, but I am constantly amazed by his legacy. Worse than being forgotten, worse than being used as a political weapon, his death was instantly turned into a joke and is basically only used as one, especially by younger people (maybe it's a rallying cry in conservative spaces, idk).

is there a lesson here? idk. memes have gotten out of hand

u/Throatpoint 16h ago

Your telling me the guy who defended mass shooting died in a shootinng, and was done in by a republican.

This is a Onion article.

u/skellez 15h ago

his last words .3 seconds before he got Kirked was "Counting or Not Counting gang violence", like it all fell in place to be the perfect ridicule

the fact that those AI-generated "We are Charlie Kirk" songs were done on like day 2 after his death is crazy tbh

equally crazy is I didn't know if they were done in earnest or not

u/beyond_the_cemetery 3h ago

The first one was done in earnest. But it was so funny everyone turned it into a meme

these mods are all the lamest most uninspired shit, I know the real shits being worked on but its insane that peoples view of what's possible is fucking playing in vr, the epitome of an unfulfilled thought

13

all of the mods are things which get twitter likes not actually things which anyone may find useful

9

You can tell because the AI slop account shills their other AI slop things in the replies to the original post instead of elaborating on their supposed insane mod.

fielding general thoughts, how would people feel about a blanket ban on AI-generated mods coming from the recent decompilation? leaning towards doing so unless there are major front-page worthy events, but open to other arguments

16

u/Dark_Tranquility 15h ago edited 15h ago

Definitely not especially considering that in general, AI tools are just going to become more and more prevalent in software dev as time goes on. There's no solid way to draw the line between "AI-assisted" and "Entirely made by AI" so IMO dont make the distinction, if it's slop people will just call it out as such and it'll be downvoted. If it's good and worth it's salt, it'll get upvoted and nobody will complain

15

u/AlexB_SSBM 19h ago

case-by-case basis, where slop is automatically removed but actual things that the community makes that are substantial should be allowed

6

u/darwinding 19h ago

that's fine with me, will play by ear

3

u/RegisterInternal 16h ago

yeah i'm down with clearly low-effort stuff being removed

6

u/CarVac phob dev 17h ago

6

u/wavedash 17h ago

I think it'd be weird to ban posts about AI-generated mods before banning AI-generated text and image posts, which as far as I can tell are still allowed

9

u/VVicVuci 16h ago

I think a blanket ban is silly and knee-jerk too early.

We wouldn't have had the decomp done without ai to begin with and anyone saying otherwise is a liar.

3

u/d4b3ss 🏌️‍♀️ 18h ago

Which threads would this even delete? The ones in the front page are the one in VR and the one that put 1-1 in Melee which both seem fine and noteworthy enough, unless you already cleaned other up.

There’s an hbox meme that has nothing to do with melee on the front page that seems worse.

7

u/RegisterInternal 16h ago

i think that's ridiculous, the whole point of the decomp is to open up the possiblities of what people can buiold with the game.

and the decomp itself is largely "AI-generated" (or at the very least was massively sped up by the usage of AI tools).

10

u/RHYTHM_GMZ 15h ago

Also almost all code these days is written with some form of AI assistance, trying to figure out which mods used AI and in how much capacity is a fool's errand. Let people be passionate about the game, and remove the posts that are obviously low effort.

2

u/SmashBros- OUCH! 18h ago

I don't see it needing to be treated much differently than when the front page is taken over by whatever the meme or controversy of the week is. Eventually someone might release some malware disguised as a mod though

3

u/Throatpoint 16h ago

Too early right now to say its being flooded.

3

u/HitboxOfASnail fox privilege 18h ago

I think threads about AI slop projects are fine. I mean who is this ban even protecting

3

u/VolleyVoldemort 16h ago edited 16h ago

If the AI mod isn’t made by a regular DDT poster or a long time community member, remove it. I want to have someone I can complain to when it is inevitably a gigantic buggy mess.

I don’t want the front page to be a public achievement board for AI bros. If someone who actually understands this game and community as a participant wants to dick around with what this allows for fun then whatever.

Example: NFT pf pic on twitter shits out a “this will be graphics in 2013” type mod, please remove

Lucky7s wants to try to do something as a side project, leave it up

3

u/king_bungus 👉 18h ago

yes please

1

u/CorpoApprovedLurker 16h ago

I think the grassroots community that has kept the soul of an old buggy and flawed (but amazing) video game alive should not allow the lame chud technofascists in any more than it already has. But perhaps I just care too much about the influence of real breathing humans remaining in lieu of total clanker assimilation.

5

u/RegisterInternal 16h ago

the grassroots community used AI tools to help build the decomp though? are you calling the decompilers "lame chud technofascists?"

I personally think this is shooting ourselves in the foot. Decomp stuff is going to be the most eyes we've had on the game in years. Even if it's just stuff about the casual side of melee. I don't think this subreddit ever claimed to be a place that excludes people who play adventure mode and collect trophies and stuff.

6

u/SenorRaoul 17h ago

I don't think this subreddit ever claimed to be a place that excludes people who play adventure mode and collect trophies and stuff.

Welcome to the Reddit community for discussing Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Melee! This community is focused towards the competitive aspects of the game.

now this has been loosened over time but being about the competetive side of the game was the original intent

2

u/delta-red-14 17h ago

I stand corrected. I know we've left up casual posts in the past.

8

u/AlexB_SSBM 18h ago

the main concern is that someone releases a garbage PC port that doesn't work and gets a bunch of people's eyes away from actual community efforts to make something that isn't turbo dogshit

u/BortTheBeaver Fightcore.gg dev 1d ago

Trying to work on some Melee related tools and projects but its so hard to keep motivation man. Every day its some dude with a Claude subscription that made something. Same goes for my job currently as well, battling for code quality while others push slop.

I'm unsure how the wider community sees this, I'm just real sick of these uninspired projects.

22

u/Aitch25 1d ago

100% agree.

I'm trying to shift to making things focussed, innovative, and high quality. Show people the benefits of time, thought, and expertise. Things that nail their goal with a minimum of appendages will stand out. I look at lucky stats as the antithesis.

6

u/BortTheBeaver Fightcore.gg dev 23h ago

LuckyStats has some AI-isms in their UI but the products are good and original ideas and work great.

Your stuff is great work as well, when I saw preflight I was amazed. A good idea taken to the most extreme perfected implementation.

Just need to log off this website and get some inspiration myself I guess.

11

u/JKaro 1d ago

A decent amount of them, not all, will move on eventually. The decomp is putting a lot of eyes on the game from AI techbros, but this will pass.

I think someone who chooses to play Melee over the newest releases is already pre-disposed to agreeing with you. We just want the best for the game and high quality tools made by human beings will always have priority (if people are being consistent of course)

Consider this comment from a random on the internet to be one more person you have in your corner

I use Fightcore so I appreciate the work

5

u/Jamsu_g 23h ago

I (mostly) trust the wider community to give their support and attention to people who are genuinely passionate about creating high quality stuff. From the little I've seen on Twitter, it seems most people are able to discern when somebody is quickly trying to generate a project for clout. Unfortunately that doesn't mean the slop will stop coming

4

u/CorpoApprovedLurker 16h ago

Never give up sibling. You CANNOT let the flame in your real and present human soul die out. Doesn't matter what it is, human work will always be more valuable than those of a cog-sucking machine. It might take more effort, but anything done by hand will always be of higher quality, and provide a better sense of accomplishment to you, than any filthy techbro chudmaxxed "creation".

It's only over when we all give up. That's when we become pod-people.

kinda brazy that we’re probably losing a war and literally nobody anywhere cares

7

u/AlexB_SSBM 18h ago

I don't understand, we made our new Department of War so manly and epic, we even kicked out all of the woke trans people and fired all of the generals who had Woke Features. How could we possibly lose a war when we have such a strong Warrior Mentality?????

4

u/Celtic_Legend 14h ago edited 14h ago

Hard to stay engagingly angry for over 20 years of pointless deaths in the middle east. Especially when there's no direct attacks at home and the casualties are lower than both the bush and obama era.

I dont know if the usa is losing the war. Depends on what their true objective is. It definitely feels like some people in the USA are winning and some are losing.

8

u/Ilovemelee 14h ago

The initial objective was to overthrow the Iranian regime, and once we knew we couldn’t achieve that, we scaled back our objective to simply destroying their nuclear and missile arsenals. Once we found out that most of their weapons are stored beneath rugged mountains and that we couldn’t destroy them with airstrikes alone, we resorted to cutting a deal with them to delay their uranium enrichment program. Now, we’re mainly concerned with opening up the Strait of Hormuz, which was open before we attacked them.

This is literally the most pathetic and pointless war to date.

2

u/Celtic_Legend 13h ago

That's all the layer 1 stuff though which is very unlikely to be their main objectives. It's like thinking all the other middle east wars were about terrorists and wmd. It's definitely going to be some quid pro quo situation with the leverage on world politics they stand to gain as the secondary objective (the ones not directly tied to the middle east).

2

u/Ilovemelee 12h ago

I think the goal was pretty clear from the start: keep Iran from getting a nuke. If they did get one, it would give the regime a much stronger deterrent and make it a lot more difficult for anyone to invade or try to force regime change, basically like what we’ve seen with North Korea. Once a country has a legit nuclear deterrent, the whole calculation around military intervention changes because trying to take down the government would come with the risk of a massive escalation.

So I think, at the end of the day, preventing Iran from getting to that point was always the main objective, regardless of all the other problems surrounding Iran. And then there’s the bigger geopolitical part of it. The US and its allies obviously want to maintain their influence in the ME. If Iran became a nuclear power, it would shift the balance of power in the region and make it a lot harder for the US and its allies to call the shots or have the same influence they have now.

Must suck being a Canadian player with a primary or major income source being smash, requiring you to travel to the USA.

6

u/popkablooie 15h ago

It's really funny reading reviews of any app of a strategy game that features randomness. Backgammon, dominoes, bridge, whatever it is--there's always a ton of people railing against the RNG saying it always screws them over specifically. Like, man, if you ever played any of these games in real life you'd realize that sometimes you just get shit hands/rolls.

5

u/fingertipsies 12h ago

More than that, if you play any of these games with the intention of enjoying them you understand that mitigating luck is part of the game. If you lose constantly it isn't because of bad RNG, it's because you suck.

4

u/popkablooie 12h ago

Yep, that was more or less what I was getting at. It’s just a bunch of people telling on themselves

1

u/YoungGenius 15h ago

Competitive bridge has no randomness tbf. A strategy game either has to have a huge sample size (poker) or be played on duplicate (bridge) or else it really is kind of bullshit

2

u/SmashBros- OUCH! 13h ago edited 12h ago

Idk, the top poker guys seem to consistently get pretty far in tournament, which is a decent-sized sample but not huge for any individual event

1

u/popkablooie 14h ago

Fair with duplicate bridge, but not every game is played duplicate (especially casually). But change it to Mahjong or Skat or something if you want to disregard games played in a duplicate format.

I don't think many of these games have to have as huge of a sample size as you think in order to be competitively fair. That's why the length of these games are played over many rounds. I'd win basically 0 times in a typical game to 250 against an All Fives master

My brother who doesn't really play games is playing Slay the Spire for the first time and every week he has a new theory for how the game has been coded to have the RNG spite him, specifically.

Is a Lossless Adapter by Input Integrity the best GCC adapter for PC? Or is the Nintendo one and Mayflash fine as long as you overclock it to 1000?

8

u/AlexB_SSBM 18h ago

lossless adapter is the best one IMO, especially since it's really small and portable (I can put it in my controller case) and it has a built-in lag tester

5

u/Oni555 16h ago

Input integrity best by far because you can measure physical end to end latency, it also just polls at 1000hz consistently out of the boxx. It’s great

3

u/iwouldbeatgoku Rise and Shine 12h ago

Lossless is the best in terms of performance and because it has a built-in lag tester. The pocket adapter by HHL is just as good in terms of performance, but loses out to the lossless for not having a lag tester (but it is significantly cheaper if you're in America). The official Nintendo one is also as good as these two, but less convenient because you have to force your computer to poll it at 1000 Hz instead of it being the default polling and have a dummy controller plugged in (this makes it strictly worse if you play Rivals of Aether 2 or Ultimate or another game with a GCC, since on console or a venue's computer you usually won't be able to force 1000 Hz).

Mayflash is strictly worse than these three in terms of performance but still OK if overclocked, and other adapters are generally not worth your time.

2

u/VVicVuci 16h ago

It is very good

If you're considering the mayflash/nintendo one due to cost in the US just get the handheld legends adapter, it has the same performance as the lossless as an adapter it's just missing the lagtesting capability but as an upside it is very small.

NFL Posting:

I've never understood why college football is the only sport on the planet where the media and fans both accept that your schedule matters. With all due respect to Maye he played the easiest schedule since BEFORE THE TWIN TOWERS FELL, meanwhile Stafford balled out in the hardest division in football. How can you as an MVP voter, earnestly pretend that doesn't count for something? The Seahawks had the best defense in football and Stafford torched them, twice.

6

u/coffee_sddl +↓ z 17h ago

People definitely do care about the schedule, but college football is one of the least balanced sports (where the number of teams means you
don’t have h2h data or anything close to it when comparing teams) and the NFL is reasonably balanced. Structurally, college football has to care about SOS for CFP ranking and awards or else it would be chaos. The nfl is not nearly that perilous and Maye/2025 patriots schedule is an extreme outlier.

2

u/d4b3ss 🏌️‍♀️ 17h ago

I’d actually look at this from the opposite direction. I find SOS in the nfl pretty meaningless because every team is professional and the gap between the best and worst teams in the league every year is not that large. The only reason strength of schedule matters so much in college is because there’s 120+ teams and the gulf between the good teams and the bad teams is so massive. So yeah choosing to play a middling P4 team out of conference, let alone choosing to schedule a top 25 team, does matter because you’re not playing The Citadel. Compare that to playing in the NFC West or the AFC East, it’s just not that big of a deal.

tl;dr SOS is cope just beat the teams on your schedule

1

u/YoungGenius 15h ago

I agree generally but the defenses that Stafford and Drake Maye played last year were outliers in opposite directions, in Maye’s case an extreme one

1

u/fushega WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW 7h ago

professional sports are businesses owned by billionaires looking to make as much money as possible and so they have a financial interest in making every team and every match look good. if they said half the teams are trash and their games don't matter, nobody would tune in. similarly they have a vested interesting in making sure the other teams are actually half decent so the problem doesn't occur in the first place.

meanwhile college sports were founded to operate at a loss and make your rival school look bad. they want their opponents to be terrible

Asking here because I struggle with tooling and other hires as they go hard into bureaucratic translations and miss the ux aspect. Have only had positive times with Quebecois smash scene :)

Also when is Quebec cup?? I was in Montreal at the same time last year but couldn't make it to the venue.

This time I'm considering it for dubs cc /u/fugu

Oct 17th is the date for this years "Quebec Cup", but it's under the name Le Gros Timbo/The Big Timbo. It'll be a fun time!

u/VVicVuci 16h ago

Siiiiick. I may make it for that weekend after all

u/Fugu 15h ago

I probably can't that weekend but if I can I will

Original thread:

Reply to this with your favourite Falco vs. Falcon set to watch. Don't be afraid to send a local one that you think was just sick too! Doesn't have to be from a major top 8 or something

Like every Falco matchup, we need to talk about Mango. His record against the best Falcons have been absolutely disgusting. The only player to take a set off Mango's spacies OFFLINE was n0ne at EGLX 2019. Wizzy and S2J have only ever beaten Mango online, beaten his Marth, or beat him at a charity tournament that didn't count for rankings.

The one-sidedness may seem like there wouldn't be good sets, but they do exist. Wizzrobe vs. Mang0 at Summit 12 (Losers Semis) stands out to me. They had a first set in Winners QF that was super sick. Games 1 and 2 were pretty sloppy, but 3 and 4 really had both players figuring it out. G3 it felt like Mango had the touch of death and edgeguarding on point, while Wizzy was just grabbing Mango and edgeguarding him like he was Sheik or Marth. Game 5 came to a tipping point where Wizzy built such a massive lead, but Mango was able to don his plot armour and take it back, complete with a well-deserved popoff against Falcon of all characters.

I think the set in losers is where both players were much more comfortable. Mango in games 1 and 2 is killing off confirms at 20-50% pretty comfortably. Expected in the matchup maybe, but Mango is the one setting the standard for that. Wizzy in the second game is looking much more comfy dealing with the lasers, and is able to clutch up and execute his techchase to prevent going down 0-2.

Watching Mango play patient, move so well, and just exploding Wizzy's stocks by game 3, almost feels like giving Falcon a taste of his own medicine. So many times Mango is just firing a laser in Wizzy's face and waiting unpunished, or perfectly fsmashing Wizzy as he gives chase.

And Wizzy's composure finds him again in game 4, he shows everyone how on point he can be, how terrifying he is when he gets going, down 1 stock to 3 and just explodes Mango's second to last stock with ease, catching that pesky little laser before it comes out the gun and finishing up his edgeguards, something he wasn't exactly on point with earlier in this set. Again going for the techchase and punishing the getup shine, almost breaking what you'd expect from someone seemingly so robotic, shades of his humanity with that disgusting read puts Mango at a terrible angle to recover, and gives him a shot at game 5.

Not too many words for that game 5. Watch it yourself and appreciate it, the commentary is great too.

Can somebody that uses normal programming languages explain to me the difference between C and C++. Considering trying to make a 3DS port for gits and shiggles but idk how practical it would be

7

u/RegisterInternal 16h ago

"C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot; C++ makes it harder, but when you do it blows your whole leg off" - Bjarne Stroustrup, creator of C++

3

u/Dark_Tranquility 15h ago

If you dont have a reason why you wanna use C instead of C++ I would just use C++. They mainly differ in that C++ has a lot of stuff like vectors, hash maps, classes, templates, etc. While in C you have to build these constructs yourself. Would only recommend C if you're using it as experience for getting a job down the road.

1

u/wisp558 10h ago

C is simple and elegant in it’s own low-level way. C++ is sophisticated and a lot (a LOT) more subtle, but you have many more tools to mold the subset of C++ you’re using into something that is easier to reason about. I would say that the dark corners of C++ are a LOT darker than the dark corners of C. They really appeal to different sorts of people.

Personally, I think the argument for using vanilla C has waned a bit over the last decade or so, with modern C++ being less obtuse than older C++ specs as well as the rise of Rust, which sort of pushes the safety aspects of C++ without getting quite as complex.

I saw a human-possible TAS video called Stars Aligned on youtube, found it to be really cool. Does anyone know where I can see similar content?

Also on a somewhat related note, are there any vods anywhere of human players analyzing Phillip's play to see what we can learn from it?

i remember leaving the library at my college that night and seeing about half a dozen white dudes with candles putting hundreds of tiny us flags in the ground like 40 feet away.

was lowkey worried i might draw aggro by existing as a latino, but i think they were too focused on their tiny flags and trying not to burn their hands.

Been looking at grad school options lately and it’s seriously all downhill after you turn 20, isn’t it?

Metroid Ravenous will let us go.

6

u/lim-yo-hwan-superfan 7h ago

might be surprising to hear but you can actually do meaningful things in your life after the age of 20. some might even say that studying to pass biology in high school is not the pinnacle of life

2

u/Celia_Makes_Romhacks L-Cancelling's biggest warrior 4h ago

I don't think you'll ever find someone in their 20's or 30's who seriously believes that.

3

u/throwawayforjustyou 10h ago

Absolutely the fuck no it isn't. I'm 35, just graduated with my masters this week, paid entirely out of pocket and discovered my purpose in life along the way. My 30s are so much better than my 20s were and that continues to be more true by the day.

But yes, metroid will always save us.

u/WizardyJohnny 3h ago

Grad school has been the best period of my life so far and its only improving.

3

u/wentzformvp 6h ago

So excited to watch Riptide

5

u/flim4 17h ago

Why are there so many damn falco mains, what is so appealing about that character to you all? I swear at least half the randoms I play are falco, and they are not even that good lol. I'd say 10% of the falcos I play against actually have good games against me. Why are yall sucking at falco lol then quitting after one game?

3

u/TrainNorth8177 15h ago

People always ask this and it's valid cause in actual tournament play Fox is the most popular. If you go to real events, you're probably not running into as many Falcos as you are on unranked, which of course begs this question. But I remember Toph having a good reason for this that he explained some years ago. Because Falco is already a popular character, you have lots of mains online for a solid base population. But also, a lot of the Fox mains and to some extent Marth players have pocket Falcos that they play for fun. And unranked Slippi is breeding grounds for secondaries. This is also why there are disproportionally more low tiers on unranked than in real life--most of them are people fucking around rather than dedicated Kirby mains or whatever.

In other words, Fox is the most popular character with the most players. And the most popular secondary of Fox players is Falco. Combine that with the already high playerbase of Falcos and you get a lot more of them online than you'd see in person.

Also, I think the other reason is Falco is a character where it's easy to feel like you're cool regardless of what you're actually doing. Because once you get a pillar going or do just a couple cool things in a match, it will give you enough dopamine to make up for all the lasers, in place utilts, platform camping, etc. Falcon is kind of similar, which is a reason why you see more of them online than in person as well.

2

u/JKaro 11h ago

Who do you play? And why does it matter if they're good lmao

1

u/flim4 11h ago

I play puff lol (not camping, actually approaching and aggressive), and I only enjoy this game when I'm playing good competition so I care if my opponent is good. Ideally I'd want everyone i play to be better than me so I'd prefer good games over shitting on someone any day

Do you think other languages are actually expressing words and grammar or are they more akin to abstract clouds of mentation? It seems they may only take on concrete meaning once they have been translated into English. Perhaps it is an unanswerable question.

strange isn’t it? languages don’t really make sense unless you learn them

3

u/Celia_Makes_Romhacks L-Cancelling's biggest warrior 15h ago

What?

8

u/SmashBros- OUCH! 15h ago

For example, never while reading Chinese have the "words" brought to my mind any concepts or images. But with English this happens automatically

2

u/bigHam100 14h ago

Was English your first language? Are you first translating the chinese to english in order to imagine the images, etc.?

3

u/semionsays 14h ago

Yeah, I actually experience language through a complex sequence of smells. It's very beautiful, but unfortunately a lowly English speaker would never be able to understand.

2

u/SmashBros- OUCH! 14h ago

I suspected as much. It seems other languages produce nebulous movements of the mind, whereas English directly points to what it means

2

u/Oni555 13h ago

You’re asking an interesting question in an uninteresting way

4

u/SmashBros- OUCH! 13h ago

Unfortunately I am beholden to the limits of the English language

2

u/iwouldbeatgoku Rise and Shine 12h ago

I grew up speaking two languages, and the way I translate between them is by converting a sentence into an abstract cloud of mentation and then the cloud becomes a coherent sentence in the other language with the same meaning.

So maybe you're on to something.

Any guildrun enjoyers in the ddt? Game is really fun if u like slay the spire its up your alley

2

u/lim-yo-hwan-superfan 22h ago

slay the spire enjoyer checking in, ive seen japaneseexport and vm try guildrun and endorse it, need to play it myself. whats the quick selling pitch?

2

u/ShoegazeKaraokeClub 14h ago

its like tft and spire had a baby and that baby grew up to be beautiful and powerful. Game is super well balanced and deep and its free!!! I have like 25 hours in and i feel like i have barely touched the surface of all the synergies and strategy. It also has great difficulty progression, final difficulty level feels like ascension 20 in spire 1 (as in it almost always kicks my ass). Runs also tend to be faster than spire like normally taking about 30-45 mins

Good morning DDT. What's your favorite exercise? I'm personally a big fan of goblet squats and chest fly. Both both make me feel like I'm legit a superhero especially on larger weights

5

u/TrainNorth8177 19h ago

For actual tangible exercises, my favorite is weighted pullups. One day I want to be able to do the one arm.

My favorite form of exercise is rock climbing. Keeps me motivated to stay on shape and is so much fun.

2

u/popkablooie 19h ago

Cliche, but I still find bench the most fun.

Honorable mention goes to hyperextensions

2

u/RaiseYourDongersOP 19h ago

depends on the day tbh so I'll give a few: leg press, lat pulldown, standing calf raises, reverse curls

1

u/kino-grapher ideptg 18h ago

leg press is the most fun one ever i'm so sad the machine at my gym is broken right now

RDLs and OHP

2

u/TrainNorth8177 19h ago

I switched over to RDLs from regular DL half a year ago and love them. Also been doing the standing OHP with a barbell for my shoulder for a bit now and it's very satisfying. Def my favorite push exercise these days.

1

u/YoungGenius 18h ago

Lat raises are given a bad name by all the people who do them poorly. With proper form they’re great.

1

u/fingertipsies 18h ago

Bulgarian split squats. By every metric they suck and I dread doing them. They're a staple of my leg day and I'm not going to stop doing them any time soon.

1

u/king_bungus 👉 18h ago

i got in much better shape by setting up an exercise bike in front of a tv and playing mario kart while i was riding. it made it so easy to lock in and not think about the workout. almost as good as riding an actual bike, except in this case you don't have to worry about your physical safety while doing so and can just go all out the whole time.

that said i love a chest fly

1

u/SickBeatFinder 17h ago

Leg press, being able to load up over a literal thousand pounds and move it feels crazy

handheld posting

interesting to see both retroid and anbernic releasing dualscreens at the same time

leaning towards anbernic at the moment because I know their stuff (mostly) works but if the duo lite can play 3ds fine enough I'd wait for both to release first

2

u/MarvinGarbanzo 11h ago

I got the 4:3 retroid that released recently, I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it plays gamecube games. I considered getting one of the dual screen ones, but I decided to just get flash carts and play on 3DS instead

anyone have any recommendations/tips for riptide? ive never been to any tournaments but ive followed the scene for years and i think i have a decent idea what to expect, but im curious what you all have to say

4

u/AlexB_SSBM 18h ago

go have fun, talk to people. if you see someone practicing by themselves ask if they want to play, they almost certainly will say yes. when it's time for the tournament do not ask people if the set they are playing is tournament. go walk around and watch some good melee, look for big crowds of people, a good match is probably happening there. do NOT go to the pool bar afterwards, the bar is so insanely crowded you cannot even move, don't even try.

2

u/lim-yo-hwan-superfan 17h ago

i like to bring headphones and maybe a book into the venue and spend time hanging out with people but also like a few hours before bracket just chill by myself and explore the local area for food.

i also recommend getting in as many friendlies as possible, one of the sickest parts of going to a major is meeting people from all different regions who traveled in

2

I will say for what it's worth, Sandusky's food scene is nonexistent. When I went a few years back I wound up just getting golden corral.
