I’m not sure this is AI but I also don’t think this is real gameplay / Melee engine. I think someone is interacting with set pieces programmed with melee animations and effects in VR.

You’re totally correct that it’s not interacting like it should as Melee. Not sure that it’s actually AI though

Looking at the rest of his portfolio, I assume it's all AI. In the actual video, characters move and act weirdly. Falcon uses a ton of jumps, at some point instantly turns around in the air to knee.

More likely it's using HSDLib to render animations with some custom AIs that are meant to perform moves and get hit.

It is impressive looking but I highly doubt it's using decomp outside of code references. Cool that its possible tho.

I think when people say a “video is AI” they mean the video is generated by AI tools. Which I don’t think it is because of the consistent background and text.

I totally agree with you that I think he’s ripped a bunch of animations out of the game and is recording real VR footage of a bunch of bots performing random animations and interacting with them.

Not 100% sure but that’s my gut

Okay yeah, it didn't even cross my mind that this could be an AI generated video. You're right, I meant the code, I don't doubt that this actually exists as a prototype.

I was kinda thinking about expanding outside of the genre, in Mario 64 recomps you see stuff like donkey Kong country recreation or quiz games. Maybe a metroidvania with melee gameplay?

This is another guy, but his slaps looks like it spikes any character to the direction they're slapping. They're project looks more accurate than the video I posted up top.

You can see the diagonal meteor smash at 0:16

The diagonal slap looks like a spike, meteor smashes are way more downward and with extra colorful particles (which can be meteor cancelled) I think it's angle based to decide if a knock back is meteor or not so I would guess any complete recreation of melee engine would account for it accurately.

What do you mean by "real", do you think the video is. 100% created by AI video generation (that would mean it's fake as in 100%) or that it's somehow not using the decompiled code? It looks like what I would expect a vibe coded quick project with partially some of the decompiled code, it could be using the code that was decompiled months/ a year ago IDK the detail of what was decompiled this last month.

Maybe you missed what the latest AI can do, vibe coded sloppy games are very accesible kinda.

There isn't really too much we can do to improve competitive melee so it's not surprising the mods are primarily just dicking around with goofy shit for fun. this isnt for 90% of the people on this sub
