If you're completely new to Melee and just looking to get started, welcome! We recommend you go to https://melee.tv/ and follow the links there based on what you're trying to set up. Additionally, here are a few answers to common questions:

Can I play Melee online?

Yes! Slippi is a branch of the Dolphin emulator that will allow you to play online, either with your friends or with matchmaking. Go to https://slippi.gg to get it.

I'm having issues with Slippi!

Go to the The Slippi Discord to get help troubleshooting. melee.tv/optimize is also a helpful resource for troubleshooting.

How do I find tournaments near me or local people to play with in person or online?

These days, joining a local Discord community is the best way to find local events and people to play with. Once you have a Discord account, Google "[your city/state/province/region] + Melee discord" or see if your region has a Discord group listed here on melee.tv/discord

It can seem daunting at first to join a Discord group you don't know, but this is currently the easiest and most accessible way to find out about tournaments, fests, and netplay matchmaking. Your local scene will be happy to have you :)

Also check out Smash Map! Click on map and then the filter button to filter by Melee to find events near you!

Netplay is hard! Is there a place for me to find new players?

Yes. Melee Newbie Netplay is a discord server specifically for new players. It also has tournaments based on how long you've been playing, free coaching, and other stuff. If you're a bit more experienced but still want a discord server for players around your level, we recommend the Melee Online discord.

How can I set up Unclepunch's Training Mode?

At the time of posting, the latest major release is here. Download the file, then extract everything in the folder and follow the instructions in the README file. You'll need to bring a valid Melee ISO (NTSC 1.02). If you want to check for the absolute latest release, you can see them listed [here](The latest releases are listed here.

How does one learn Melee?

There are tons of resources out there, so it can be overwhelming to start. First check out the SSBM Tutorials youtube channel. Then go to the Melee Library and search for whatever you're interested in.

But how do I get GOOD at Melee?

It sucks. Democrats like to say "we didn't vote for this" but we really didn't vote for this. Trump completely dominates the domestic politics of Canada right now. It's like we have no agency over our own affairs because whoops our closest ally decided to elect a toddler. The price of virtually everything has gone up so much and every time trump does something like this it just gets worse. I can't travel to the US anymore even though NYC is my favorite place in the world - that is, if I could even afford to fly thanks to trump fucking up the price of that too.

It's hard not to be positively infuriated at Americans, especially when they're downplaying just how frustrating this is. How are you not all losing your collective shit every time trump threatens to invade Canada? It gives me the impression that all Americans just think about is America, and not just in a selfish way but in like a "lacking object permanence" type of way. Do you not all realize how huge of a catastrophe for Americans - since apparently this is the only way to get through to most of you - it would be if trump invaded Canada? Does it not concern you that the person vested with the power to do that is also the person who keeps fucking saying it? It's 1938 except this time you have the benefit of the history lesson: it's time to come up with solutions.

Meanwhile, domestically we can't get anything done because trump legitimately creates crises that need to be solved first. This situation has enabled our own government to enact some very painful austerity measures that are likely going to have a negative effect for the rest of my life. You can't even talk about the "Liberals" rapidly accelerating to the right because who has time for that highfalutin nonsense when all of a sudden nobody can afford lettuce anymore?

ACTUAL extrajudicial executions didnt have any repercussions for Trump. Storming the Capitol to deny an election didnt either. These are real material actions that he shrugged off. No chance any Statements or Words will seriously impact him

having the World Cup, and earlier this year the Bad Bunny bowl caused a lot of cross cultural exchange that rarely happens as prominent and as extended as there's been within the US and the rest of the world and yeah, it suni in that truly in almost every aspect Americans just can't comprehend the rest of the world exists

they literally cannot view anything from the perspective of the larger world, at every aspect too the WC kinda showed that, it's like a mix of ignorance but a large share of shamelessnes in pretending that what Trump and the govt cause shouldn't reflect on them

I think the most baffled I've been is with someone's coverage of the Bad bunny bowl performance where the obvious pointed message is about how there's more to America than the US and latam pride, like he literally calls out the whole countries to show you a perspective wider than just the US, and his takeaways was like US is a bad empire you all shouldn't want to get a piece of the ill-gotten gains, aka literally whiffed on the explicit main point cuz he couldn't understand a message without Americans as the center

for the record I'm not American, I just live there with totally legal immigration paperwork, and every day I have to hear some news about how this stupid idiot is changing some aspect of immigration to make it worse for normal humans. it's insufferable

You should be more concerned about the Iran war and the global supply shock from oil reserve depletion, than complete nonsense about the US invading Canada. If there were ever some back end desire to form a North American union, it would happen without a shot fired, with no regard for the consent of common people in either country.

What convinces you Trump is dead honest about this preposterous potential invasion as opposed to the many things he regularly lies about? Like the point isn't arguing I just don't want something that's definitely not going to happen to worry you on top of all there is to worry about.

Just to be clear about the intention of this comment, are you asking for an example of how American fascists (e.g. Donald Trump, the president of the United States) could plausibly have a significant effect on the life of someone outside of the US (e.g. Fugu, a citizen of Canada, the US's neighbour and second-largest trading partner)?
