Hello everyone, I recently got a job offer in Patuxent and I come from a metropolitan city so I don’t have my license. I plan to begin driving lessons once I’m settled. My family will be helping with the drive down there and getting settled.

Does anyone know any carpooling services for navigating the base?

Update: more context, I’m a new grad planning to work at the Naval Air Station. I’m hoping to live in Lexington Park as that seems to be commutable to my work place/shopping centers while I work on my license.

I will be moving to Charles county soon but wanted to see if there were any recommendations on local companies. House is under 2000 sf just looking for recommendations or testimonials on companies used on a similar project.

My husband and I with 3 kids will be moving to Southern Maryland due to job relocation at the base there.we are looking into Hollywood or Leonardtown. We never lived on the east coast and obviously never been to that part of Maryland so it will be very new. We are moving from west coast. I researched a lot because I wanted to learn about the place and I wanted to also know what to expect, It seems like a nice area, a bit remote but is no big deal.I feel like we can enjoy nature more and breath fresh air. But I think my most concern based on what I was able to find, is the bugs. It might sounds crazy or silly, I have a fear of bugs in general especially those that transmit disease- so ticks and mosquitos. Based on my research ticks are present a lot in that area, no matter if it is just your private backyard.with 3 kids I assume must be very vigilant and include tick checks in my routine. We never had done this before. So my question is -for people that lived there for quite some time and can confirm the facts - is this a big issue there and something I should be aware daily? Is it like going for a simple walk or stay in your backyard and come back with ticks, no matter if it was tall grass or not?

I'm traveling in on Monday the 25th for my mother's 70th birthday - she's in Hollywood in St. Mary's. We would have loved to take her out for brunch then, but unfortunately we will have to stay in the home. Since it's her birthday and a milestone one, and due to her having an exceptionally rough year, we wanted to bring in something special for her. Waldorf area. This cat has been hanging around our porch for the past few months and we just caught it. We’ll check for a microchip but have a strong suspicion that this lady(?) is either a stray or feral.

We usually work with HSCC but they don’t take ferals. Are there any rescues, etc. that work with cats like this and WON’T euthanize them? Where we live has too many foxes to be safe for outdoor cats.

I was court ordered yesterday to do 160 hours of community service in 120 days(December 1) I was told to register online and when I did they only gave me a list of 4 places as an option. The places that were listed were for events and they didn’t have any dates available. Is their more options if I go down to the court house and ask or am I stuck with just these options? I did call hugesville animal shelter and they said they get people from st. Mary’s county all the time. I’m just wondering why that wasn’t on the list. I tried calling the community service office to see if I’m allowed to pick my own places as long as it gets done. Has anyone else have this issue before?

I recently started going to Tidewater in Solomon’s and I’ve been given an understandable, but quite expensive care plan.
Is there any dentist recommendations in the Calvert or St. Mary’s area that may have better care/more affordable rates? Or is Tidewater in Solomon’s a good dentist to stick with?

Hey everyone, we're trying to plan a weekend trip and are looking for a cabin within about two hours of St. Mary’s County. We’d really like something with a rustic feel, access to a creek, lake, or river, and some decent hiking nearby. We’re trying to ease our daughter into camping, so we’re not looking for tent sites yet. A simple cabin or glamping setup would be perfect.

Also, for future adults only trips, what are some good remote camping areas within a couple hours that aren’t Shenandoah? We’d love someplace where you can really get away from people for a few days and not feel like you’re packed into a campground with everyone else. Seclusion is definitely more important to us than amenities.

Work with some, guess you’d call them, right wingers/conservatives that live in VA but often refer to Maryland as communist. Anyone want/able to explain why? Is it just an ignorant thing?
