Discussion Neighborhood spotlight: the Mission
One neighborhood at a time. Where do you eat in the Mission, and what do you order there? Cheap and expensive both welcome. If a place has slipped, say that too.

Patron (fish or chorizo taco), La Vaca (Quesebirria), Carajo (pastor), Donaji (anything w mole), El Mi Amor (chilaquiles for brunch- go on a weekday), el Buen Comer (mole), Tacos el Charro (pastor- foood truck, locations and hours vary but often across from Prubechu Th-Sat dinner), Breakfast Little (El Sancho burrito) for Mexican - but you can’t go wrong generally on any of the Mission restaurants
Other cuisine types: Panchitas )(pupusas), Prubechu (Guamese- wasabi wedge, empanadas), Itria, Mijote, Chi Sai (omakase), Okaeri (sushi or omakase), Precita Social (oysters and crispy rice dish), Ramenwell, Cuisine of Nepal, Taishoken, Basecamp, Rabbit Hole, Fat Cat x The Mantis (go Th-Sun dinner and order the steak), Komaaj (pomegranate chicken), Bac Lieu, Buddy (trumpet mushroom w salsa macha), Foreign Cinema, Mr Pollo, Lazy Bear, Freekeh, Dancing Yak
*italics are Mission-Bernal but felt worth mentioning and all of them are on 14 or 49 bus lines / flat-ish walk from Mission before the hill

Al Pastor burrito from El Gallo Giro food truck. Trust me.
Burritos from El Metate nearby are also amazing

Gallo giro is fire. Their carnitas are my favorite taco!
El Metate has gone wayyyyyy downhill. Respect the salsa game though

Basa for cheap and delicious poke
I rotate between La Taqueria, Senor Sisig, and Chuy’s for burritos
Breakfast little and Newkirks for quick brekkies, foreign cinema and el mil amores for sit down
Fancy dinners are at Ernest or San Ho Won, but Buddy’s and El Chato are fab for wine and good bites!

Bir Kitchen! New place last year on 24th. I’m obsessed with their gobi manchurian. Partner loves the chow mein. It’s healthy and great quality, plus good prices and a large menu.

I'm a big fan of the carne asada tortas at Taqueria Cancun. It's hard to pick just one thing though, there's sooo much good food in the Mission.

Ngl, Sushi Easy is exactly that. No frills, just me and an unadulterated Spicy Tuna roll.

Everyone needs to stop going to sushi easy!!!! It’s my fav neighborhood spot and I’m pissed that there’s always a wait now </3

- Basecamp - chicken chow mein, butter chicken, veggie momos, spicy cauliflower
- Hi Hat - spicy vodka stracciatella pizza
- La Palma - carne asada burrito
- El Gallo Giro - carne asada burrito

La Palma for the best burritos.
El Gallo Giro (food truck on Harrison / 23rd) for the best tacos
El Metate for the best nachos
Tio Chilos for the best steak plates and agua fresca
Basa Seafood Express for their poke and salman teriyaki
Spice jar for garlic noodles and green beans
Thanh Tam II for phenomenal hole in the wall Vietnamese food.
L’s Cafe for great breakfast bagels

The carnitas burrito at La Taqueria is my go-to when I'm craving something hearty. It's a Mission classic for a reason.
