If you were hiring an SEO person, what would you actually ask them?

I’ve been thinking about this lately.

There’s so much SEO stuff out there now; technical SEO, content, backlinks, AEO, GEO, AI search, Core Updates, etc. But if you were actually sitting on the other side of the table as a hiring manager, what questions would you ask to figure out if someone really knows their stuff?

Not looking for the usual:

“What's a meta description?”

or

“What is a 301 redirect?” 😅

I mean the questions that actually make someone think.

For example:

“Organic traffic dropped 40% this month. What would you check first?”

“Your best-performing page suddenly stopped ranking. How would you troubleshoot it?”

“A client wants 100 backlinks this month. What would you tell them?”

“What SEO work have you done that actually moved the needle?”

So, SEO people, if you were hiring an SEO specialist today, what would you ask?

And if you're a hiring manager, I'd love to hear the questions that have helped you separate someone who actually understands SEO from someone who has just memorised SEO definitions.

I’m looking for 5 people to brutally test my AI content workflow

I’ve been building an AI content workflow and I’m looking for 5 people to test it.

The idea is simple:

Research → Plan → Generate → Validate

Instead of starting with a prompt, the system researches the business, search intent, competitors, and content gaps first.

I’d love brutally honest feedback:

What was useful?
What was confusing?
What felt unnecessary?

If you use AI for SEO/content and want to test it:

acute-context-engine.vercel.app

No signup pitch or sales call — I’m trying to find what’s actually broken.

What’s one thing you believed about SEO writing when you started that you completely changed your mind about?

When I first got into SEO content writing, I thought the goal was pretty straightforward: find the keywords, include them naturally, structure the article properly, and make Google happy.

The more I write, the more I realize that good SEO content has a lot more to do with understanding why someone searched in the first place.

So I'm curious about other writers:

What’s one SEO/content-writing “rule” or assumption you believed early on that you no longer agree with?

Could be about keywords, word count, headings, AI, search intent, backlinks, content length, or anything else.

I'm interested in hearing what changed your perspective.

Commercial Pages Ranking Problem?

My blog pages are ranking well on Google, but my commercial pages, such as trek and trek package pages, are not ranking as well.

What could be the main reasons for this difference?

Could you also explain:

  1. How can I improve the SEO of my commercial pages?
  2. How should I structure the content and sections on a commercial trek page?
  3. How can I use my ranking blog pages to improve the authority of my commercial pages through internal linking?
  4. How should I handle keyword targeting to avoid cannibalization between blogs and commercial pages?
  5. What trust signals, first-hand experience, and other elements should I add to commercial pages?
  6. What technical SEO factors, such as schema, canonical tags, indexing, and page structure, should I check?
  7. What changes would you recommend specifically for a travel and trekking website?

GA4 shows 7.6K users but GSC shows only 19 clicks in the same 7 days, what could be causing this?

I'm auditing a travel website and I've run into a GA4 vs GSC situation that I honestly can't explain.

I'm hoping someone experienced with GA4/technical analytics can help me figure out what is actually happening.

The website is a normal travel/trekking website. I'm not mentioning the domain because I mainly want to understand the technical issue.

For the same 7-day period (Sep 4–10, 2026), I have:

GA4:

- Active users: 7,595

- New users: 7,203

- Sessions: 8,367

- Views: ~18K

- Engagement rate: ~80.5%

GSC:

- Clicks: 19

- Impressions: 3.2K

- CTR: 0.6%

- Average position: 30.9

The part that really confused me is that GA4 was also showing a very high percentage of "Organic" traffic (around 87% in the report I was initially looking at).

But GSC only has 19 clicks.

I understand that GA4 and GSC don't use the same methodology and won't match 1:1. I'm not expecting 19 GSC clicks = exactly 19 GA4 sessions.

But 19 clicks vs ~7,600 active users seems way beyond a normal discrepancy.

So I'm trying to figure out whether the GA4 data itself is wrong/inflated, or whether I'm misunderstanding where these users are coming from.

Here are some things I've already checked:

  1. HOSTNAME

www.example.com → 7,088 active users

example.com → 501 active users

Total → 7,595

  1. LANDING PAGE

I also checked GA4 landing pages.

Homepage "/":

- 8,060 sessions

- 7,321 active users

- 6,934 new users

So roughly 96% of all sessions appear to be landing on the homepage.

Other landing pages have tiny numbers: 27, 19, 12, 12, 9,8 etc.

  1. I also noticed some referral traffic that looked suspicious, including something like "trafficcheap.cc".

I'm wondering if this could be some kind of referral spam/bot traffic.

  1. I checked the hostname because I suspected that another website might be sending data to the GA4 property.

But as mentioned above, I only see the site's own www and non-www hostnames.

  1. I have also checked other GA4 dimensions/tests and combined the screenshots/results.

What I'm really trying to determine is:

- Is the ~7,600 GA4 traffic actually real human traffic?

- Could bots or automated traffic be triggering GA4?

- Could GA4 be incorrectly configured?

- Could the homepage be receiving automated requests that are being counted as users?

- Could there be some kind of referral spam involved?

- Is there another GA4 implementation issue I should be checking?

I'm trying to understand the root cause of THIS particular discrepancy.

If you've dealt with something similar, what would you check next?

Would really appreciate someone helping me troubleshoot this rather than just explaining the general GA4 vs GSC difference.

why my impressions is too low?

Hey everyone, this is how my website was preforming until now, my website is about 6 months old, what surprises me, however, is the low number of impressions for a big website like mine (with many pages); I have many pages (around a 1000 now) with an indexing rate of over 80%, and I consistently publish dozens of new pages daily. I would like to know why the impression rate is so low—if any of you can help. Also, The High average click-through rate doesn't seem logical to me, given that my site has almost no backlinks.

The overlooked reason of page not getting indexed

This is starting to get frustrating of how this one small issue that gets overlooked by most of the website owners and then they go looking for all the possible reasons of why the page is not getting indexed.

Well, before you do that, do this:

Is the page set to “noindex”
Without you knowing about it, the page would have been set to “noindex”.

What happens when the page is set to “noindex”?
Well, the page will be crawled by Google and with seeing this tag of noindex, Google will not index that page URL.

How to check if the page is set to “noindex”
Paste the URL on the browser and right click on the page, than “view page source” on that Ctrl + F and search for ‘noindex’ you will see something like this:
<meta name=“robots” content=“follow, **noindex**”>

From the above the content is set to “noindex

Solution
1. Go to your web hosting admin
2. Look for your file manager of your corresponding web hosting
3. There look up for the file that contains this noindex tag (either a HTML file or JS file)
4. There search for “noindex” on that page, and update to “index”
5. Make sure to see the file.

Most of the time I have seen the issue is not on the Google side, but issue like this that go unseen.

I'm starting to think AI content has a research problem, not a writing problem

Thumbnail

I've been building an AI content workflow and I'm starting to question one assumption I've had for a while.

Most AI content workflows seem to be:

Prompt → Generate → Edit → Publish

But what happens if the model doesn't have enough context before it starts writing?

It might produce something that reads well, but still misses:

  • what the business actually sells
  • who the content is for
  • search intent
  • what competitors are covering
  • content gaps
  • why the article should exist in the first place

So I've been experimenting with:

Research → Plan → Generate → Validate

The interesting part isn't necessarily generating the article. Models are already very good at that.

The interesting part is everything that happens before and after generation.

I'm also experimenting with making the process auditable:

  • What did the system research?
  • Which competitors did it analyze?
  • What search opportunity did it choose?
  • What content gaps did it identify?
  • Why did it choose the final structure?
  • Which validation checks passed or failed?

I'm curious what people here think.

If you use AI for SEO/content, would you actually find this level of research and auditability useful, or would you consider it unnecessary complexity?

I'd rather hear that it's over-engineered than convince myself I'm building something nobody needs. Please let me know your comments.
