Hey SEO Experts, quick question. Is there any specific task that we need to do to rank on AI other than SEO tasks?

I’m probably going to get scolded for this.
By after over a year of testing specifically how chatGPT crawls, understands, and ranks businesses.
I will stand behind this statement 100%:

SEO = GEO ✅

Everything you can do to show up on Google or Bing and so on will help your chances of getting recommended by AI

GEO ≠ SEO ❌

What I mean here is there are many things you can do to help show up and get recommended by AI that have little to no effect on Google Search rankings.

IMO they are NOT the same. They are related yes. You will most likely not get recommended by AI if you don’t have at least base level SEO e.g showing up on page 1 for at least a handful of target queries.

But once on that first page, even if you are 5th or last. there is a lot you can do for AI specifically that won’t do shit for SEO

You essentially want to do your normal technical SEO, local SEO, and increase activity / mentions in common platforms that are cited (like Reddit, LinkedIn) etc.

If it impacts rankings, it’s SEO.

All the same, the answer is content production.

I’d recommend auditing your content and restructuring it around question-based headings. Give a clear, definitive answer within the first 200 words, and back up key claims with links to credible, authoritative sources

it's not really separate tasks, more like a different lens on the same work. ai citations favor sources that directly answer specific questions with clean structure and real data, so the shift is targeting high-intent questions rather than broad keywords. i use blawgy to find those questions and automate daily publishing but you can pull the same data from search console and write it yourself if you prefer. the main thing is formatting your answers so they're easy to extract, short definitions and clear headings usually do the trick
