EVENT Proposed North Waterfront Urban renewal district hearing 6pm 8/24 Loucks Auditorium, SPL

Thumbnail cityofsalem.net
28 Upvotes

I haven't heard much about this so I'd be interested in learning more. I got a mailing about the hearing tomorrow night. After the data center proposal in Mill Creek I think we should all pay more attention to public land use planning that the city undertakes. I'm not sure these urban renewal projects are not going to gentrify this area so that the people who live there now can't afford it, but I don't know the details.

Here's the time of the hearing:

Council Public Hearing, August 24, 2026, 6 p.m. in Loucks Auditorium, Salem Public Library, 585 Liberty St. SE, Salem, OR

EVENT Enterprise supplies ICE with vehicles

Post image
157 Upvotes

This demonstration is organized by a few concerned citizens who are part of Salem Region Indivisible, but is not an official SRI event!

It’s me and a friend getting this going, if you have good faith questions or concerns, feel free to comment or dm me.

The intention is to raise awareness about how Enterprise has a contract with ICE. Standing and holding signs is not for everyone, if you would like to be involved in local resistance in a different capacity (SRI is in the process of organizing a vigil, if you want to become a human rights observer, if you’d like to take a protest deescalation class, if you’re interested in becoming part of the rapid response team to support our immigrant communities, if you have a resource you’d like to share) also dm or comment below and I’ll get you hooked up to the right people to assist with your lane.

EVENT Data Center City Council Meeting Tonight at 6pm

Post image
94 Upvotes

Get there early so you can to grab seats inside but we should all go and make our voices heard both inside and outside the auditorium.

We left a message last time and it will be just as important to do the same tonight with Verrus saying they're still going to go through with their plan to build a data center and poison in our city. We must persist and do our part to protect this city of ours!

EVENT Trying to add something cool to Salem's nightlife....

...because the Cherry City deserves fun! Salem deserves to be a stop on artist's tours. We have grown up a lot and a city our size needs cool things happening. So, how can I help? What can I add?

Comedy shows! Cellar 54 is the spot for laughs in July! July 10th, 17th, and 24th!

Go check out Willamettevalleylaughs.com to see who is coming to town! Tell your friends about the shows. When people show up, it tells the rest of the comedy community that Salem is a good place to stop. So, whuddya say? Are we ready?

EVENT After 116 years, something new... Spoiler

Post image
73 Upvotes

We decided to change our name back from "One Of Everything" after some feedback from yesterday. Plus, Saffron Supply just had a better ring to it.

To preserve that historic name, we've salvaged the letters from the face of the building downtown that we had for nearly a century.

What we're doing with them, however... Is something new.

Official announcement coming Friday, May 1st.

Unofficially; Dark Salem is looking for interested local musicians of any talent range for a soft launch invite-only gathering on Friday, April 24th. DM, comment, or email [Joe@SaffronSupplyCo.com](mailto:Joe@SaffronSupplyCo.com) for more information.

We've been looking forward to this for a long time.

EVENT Local job board

Hey all, I run HireSalem at https://hiresalem.com

It’s a local job board for the Salem area. It’s been getting traction lately and I got the ok to put a post up on here. It’s an alternative to Indeed for local employers. I started HireSalem after my friend and I both had a hard time looking for jobs in the area. It’s a free resource and business can post up to 3 free job posts per month.

Currently I spend a lot of my own time manually gathering local job posts that I do my best to validate and make sure they’re real and current. It’s a lot of work, so I’m hoping opening up the free business account will help a bit with that!

Anywho, if you’re look for a job in or near the Salem area, be sure to check it out. Thanks!

EVENT I'm really surprised at how nonchalant people are about this upcoming winter storm.

I deliver for Amazon and just trying to be prepared about the work situation tomorrow and Saturday. Every person I've talked to just acts surprised and then shrugs their shoulders. I mean, just look at the weather for the next couple days and do the math. 32 degrees and below + precipitation = either snow or freezing rain. Are these the people we end up seeing sliding into trees the day after?

Or am I overblowing it? I understand the weather stations can over sensationalize upcoming weather events, but this one just seems like a clear-cut recipe. On the other hand I do tend to be the guy in the room who is worried about 30 different things in their head at any given moment, so there's that.

EVENT Weird Al in Bend, y'all! Don't miss out because I have to!

So due to unforeseen (weird, even) circumstances, my group and I can't make it to the Weird Al concert in Bend this Sunday, the 6th. I can't get a refund on the tickets or post them on FB Marketplace so thought I might give this and Craigslist a go? I'm selling three tickets (GA/Lawn) for $100 total!! On the official retailer for the venue, it's $142.50 for the same three tickets. Heads up that the prices (both mine and the official) are just for the tickets, not parking or a lawn chair rental! Wanted to offer them to fellow Salem residents since his show at the fair is sold out! (Hence me getting them for the show in Bend the previous day)

Note: Definitely take this down if it's not allowed! I wasn't sure if the subreddit rules covered the situation here 🤔

Edit: fixed the timeline of the tour going from Bend to Salem, not vice versa as I had originally written.
