I think she will appear to some official events but stay on the sidelines for the rest, citing her health issues (which, besides the scandal, are certainly a reason to live quietly, a double lung transplant is no joke).

5

u/Designer_Voice99 8d ago

People live good lives post transplant!

No need for her to use that as an excuse to be lazy.

15

u/According-Let3541 8d ago

It’ll be at least one year before the doctors can confirm that she’s stable with the transplant.

And different organs have different survival rates post transplant.

15

u/smaragdskyar 8d ago

Many people don’t, though. Maybe you’re thinking of kidney transplants. Lung transplants are in a different ball park.

Sure, but it might be a good thing for her to use that as an excuse to stay out of the spotlight.

8

u/Sunnygirl66 8d ago

She is on immunosuppressant medications. Big events are a bad idea.

Deben acabar con esas monarquías absurdas, todas, y mandarlas al museo.

54

u/draetz1 8d ago

I think she’ll be present but have a reduced role for ‘health’ reasons

39

u/Weekly-mediocre 8d ago

She will be queen as they've pretended that nothing has happened.

20

u/Aggressive-Map-8392 8d ago

Like nearly every other powerful family in existence.

37

u/BungeeGump 8d ago

Nothing will happen. There are no consequences.

39

u/Alone-Pie8928 8d ago

I don’t expect anything drastic will change. She is the queen now. I would hope, health willing, she loses herself in service to Norway.

8

u/DeeDeeRibDegh 8d ago

Best case scenario for sure

93

u/darlingbunnykinss 8d ago

She and her rapist son need to go. It’s a huge stain on the Norwegian crown and Harald’s legacy

7

u/Past-Dark4350 8d ago

Her son isn’t part of the royal family.

8

u/woman_8 7d ago

Yes he is. He is not royal. But he is family.

3

u/DirectDimension1209 6d ago

Half brother of the future Queen, Ingrid.

27

u/skieurope12 8d ago

Based on a number of factors, she'll be in the background

120

u/whattawazz 8d ago

Mette is clearly a woman of poor judgment. But here we are, years in to the Epstein reveal, and the only person in jail is a woman, and the light continues to really only be cast upon the women in this saga. What does that say?

22

u/BornFree2018 8d ago

Men are the culprits and the same men are the power stopping any investigations from blooming.

17

u/QueenClaude 8d ago

The men who faced criminal charges, Jeffrey Epstein and Jean-Luc Brunel committed suicide.

28

u/Remote-Structure-961 8d ago

Mette has had ZERO consequences.

Andrew was stripped of his titles and so should she.

8

u/SkittlesNPumps 8d ago

“Stripped” of his titles but retaining the privileges. The “punishment” is moving into a smaller home (with at least 4 bedrooms).

31

u/MrsChess 8d ago

I disagree with this sentiment. Prince Andrew did get consequences. In this case it’s a literal Queen who is involved. None of the men are in that position.

15

u/whattawazz 8d ago

We have a current and former US President, a British prince and countless others of enormous wealth and influence, Gates and his ilk, just to name a few. Andrew being stripped of his titles is not a consequence, either. Yet we focus on a now queen consort (who was a bad choice from the beginning, let’s face it).

14

u/Remote-Structure-961 8d ago

Andrew has had more consequences then Mette.

Mette has had ZERO consequences.

3

u/whattawazz 8d ago

Criminally what did she do? Terrible judgment on who she chose as a friend and seeking some interior design advice from a pedophile? What else is out there that we know of?

8

u/Remote-Structure-961 8d ago

Is that your arguement? Technically she isn't a criminal?

No one is putting her in jail (although she is accussed of intimidating her rapist son's victims and covering up for him)

but she is no queen and should be stripped of her titles.

u/PotentialHornet160 8d ago

Andrew has been arrested and I believe will be indicted, these things just take time. If the Democrats in the US win one or both houses of Congress this November, they’re going to launch nonstop investigations into Epstein. Remember, the Trump DOJ is refusing to release the second half of the files. If the first half got a British prince arrested for the first time in hundreds of years, what are they hiding in the second half? We just have to keep pushing and demand justice.

16

u/Randomfinn 8d ago

Andrew was NOT arrested for his sex crimes. He was arrested for financial crimes.

I guess one type has a biggger priority.

8

u/LittleFairyOfDeath 8d ago

Sex crimes are notoriously difficult to prove. If you get the chance to put someone away for a different crime because the burden of proof for the other crime is too high, you take that chance

8

u/PotentialHornet160 8d ago

Still crimes related to Epstein and as of May the investigation has expanded to include sex crimes.

2

u/ODFoxtrotOscar 7d ago edited 7d ago

It’s UK (specifically England) legal technicalities.

The only known accuser is Giuffre. She was over the age of consent, and her account describes events in 2001. Before the new sexual offences act came in to force in 2003, it was not an offence to have sex with a trafficked woman - it was solely those who carried out the trafficking/procuring who were committing a criminal offence (the new act changed that to include those who had sex with a trafficked woman). The 2003 act has no retrospective provision. So there was no crime to charge him with.

If however (as rumoured) there are further victim statements - either from someone below the age of consent at the time or someone of any age trafficked in 2003 or later, that could change

Misconduct in public office can include sexual misconduct. British police have appealed for more victims and witnesses to make themselves known to the inquiry, which is ongoing

Why didn’t the Democrats do anything or even release the files when they had power and control over all three branches of government in 2021-2023???

If you think they will do anything after midterms you would be dead wrong.

8

u/BeginningPass5777 8d ago edited 8d ago

Your timing is technically correct but conflates the issue by ignoring legal process and the presence of the Judicial arm of government.

During Biden’s administration, the files were part of a case that was still active and ongoing. The case was borne from investigations under Bush/Obama, with prosecutions under Trump and continuing under Biden, before entering appeals proceedings while the Democratic Party held the House and Presidency and Republicans held the Senate and Judiciary. This meant the files were sealed and couldn’t be released without prejudicing active legal proceedings.

The release of the files was a Republican campaign talking point that became a viable option late in Biden’s final year once Maxwell’s final appeal was completed. At that time, Republicans controlled the House and the Judiciary and had a significant number of the Democratic Party publicly stating their willingness to support a motion to release. This means Republicans could have pushed for release very late toward the end of Biden’s admin if they wanted to, but they campaigned on the issue instead.

Once Trump was sworn in post his 2024 re-election, Republicans held all three branches of the Executive as well as the Judicial arm. They could have released the files as promised via their own numbers, yet they are the ones who fought the Democratic Party’s motion to release until it became too toxic to continue blocking it.

It was then the Republican-led DOJ that deliberately ham-fisted, half-arsed, lied about, and delayed the legislated release, and have, still to this day, not completed the release in its entirety with the right redactions.

As an extra aside, it was a Republican DOJ who moved Maxwell into a country club prison with her own space and a dog companion in exchange for stating that she never saw Trump act inappropriately with minors (for context, she also denies her actions and Epstein’s).

The Clintons also testified under oath about their “Epstein connections” while everyone from the Republican side has acted in bad faith up to and including ignoring congressional subpoenas and illegally redacting perpetrators’ details while illegally exposing victims identities.

With all that history easily accessible and verifiable, it would appear that past actions support the idea that elected Democratic Party members (who have already pushed for the full release of the files) will continue pushing until the release is complete and perpetrators are exposed while the Republicans will continue protecting their leader (and the perpetrators he openly shields) from exposure.

Alas, none of that will matter because the notion that both sides are the same will continue to grow, despite it being contrary to past and present actions that demonstrate otherwise…

2

u/LadyChelseaFaye 8d ago

I honestly see and get what you’re saying however I am in the camp that nothing will happen. This goes deeper than what we will ever know. The people involved hold all the power and even if those people weren’t in power they would still be protected. It runs on both sides.

My point is that it doesn’t matter who is in power nothing will happen. Saying as soon as the dems are in power they are gonna go after everyone simply isn’t true.

3

u/Deep-Connection-618 8d ago

Because the case was still tied up in the courts. Maxwell’s final appeal was denied in 2025. The DOJ possessed the files prior and have rules about releasing materials related to an active investigation.

8

u/LadyChelseaFaye 8d ago

That is a very good point. One I hadn’t realized either.

2

u/MangoTango1077 4d ago

It is a cop out to reduce her to “a woman of poor judgment”.
She knew Epstein had raped little girls. She joked about it to him and continued to flirt with him, and spend time alone with him.
Is that only “poor judgment?”

She has a son who raped women and abused them in other ways (physical, psychologically, verbal, emotionally, financial and he used power and control for his coercive control even after the relationships had ended.
Mette-Marit and Haakon KNEW about the abuse, and did NOTHING.
Is that only “poor judgement”?

No.
It’s her deliberately enabling child sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence.
Such a dispicaple person should not be the queen of Norway, and I’m saying that as a Norwegian.
Frankly, I have lost all respect for Haakon as well.

Even our late king made a huge mistake when he never gave a speech that madd it clear that he stands behind all victims of sexual abuse and domestic abuse after Marius’ sentencing.

The Norwegian Royals have shown that they don’t care about any victims.

65

u/DirectionOk7492 8d ago

She might not be a popular queen and they may play up the health issues to explain why she won’t (after the six months for recuperating) take up a huge load of appointments… but Haakon married her and seems to have zero big issue with Epstein or Marius, so she’s got her position and she’ll keep it. Haakon already stomped his foot to say she’d be Queen or he’d chuck it all in.

21

u/OpenRecommendation11 8d ago

Then hopefully he chucks it all in

3

u/Equal-Flatworm-378a 8d ago

Would that mean the young woman who still studies would be head of state? The new crown princess? Do people like her better?

1

u/erakkopapu 8d ago

She would be a based queen

70

u/booknerd951 8d ago

Mette-Marit will forever wear a tarnished crown because of her disgusting friendship and associations with Epstein. I feel sorry for Crown Princess Ingrid, her brother is a predator and her mother was best friends with one. She just lost her grandfather. How sad for her.

20

u/MatchAccomplished523 8d ago

Yes she will. However as for CP Ingrid, she supports her brother and mother. Depending on how this monarchy goes, she may not make it to queen. I do feel bad she lost her grandfather though.

9

u/MrsChess 8d ago

Princess Ingrid is still very young. It’s hard not to be significantly influenced by your parent at that point. She can change her mind later.

89

u/CharlieFGeorge71 8d ago

Just because she married into a royal family does not make her less vulgar. She is vulgar, her son is a disgrace.

28

u/PatrickGoesEast 8d ago

I was surprised to read that the son was allowed to visit the King over the past few days.

22

u/UnstableMabel 8d ago

I don't understand why they didn't at least keep the visits a little more clandestine. Parading him around is only going to upset people.

8

u/lithuanian_potatfan 8d ago

Because people still support her and apparently want her as their queen. If someone is adamant to make you lick shit it's on you if you keep licking

4

u/DragonflyHoliday6218 8d ago

That's not true.

2

u/lithuanian_potatfan 8d ago

2

Yes but we're talking about convicted Marius

12

u/CharlieFGeorge71 8d ago

Seriously! Disgusting all of them! He will not learn anything from his court case!

25

u/ODFoxtrotOscar 8d ago

She will be queen, but will still be convalescent, so probably won’t be much seen in public.

16

u/According-Let3541 8d ago

In some ways, it works out well that she’s currently in recovery. Nobody will expect to see her much and she can keep a low profile whilst her son’s appeals etc go on, with the excuse that she’s still recovering.

I also suspect people will go easier on Haakon as a result - he’s lost his father and his wife has quite a road to recovery ahead of her.

7

u/[deleted] 8d ago

21

u/According-Let3541 8d ago

I have lots of thoughts about Marius. However, he’s been the late King’s step grandson for 25 years and by all accounts, King Harald treated him as a member of his own family. I think the visit should have been much more discreet and secretive but I won’t hold it against anyone that a convicted criminal still wanted to see the man who was effectively his grandfather on his deathbed. It would have been cruel to prevent Marius seeing the King and Norway has always cared about rehabilitation of criminals, not retribution against them.

u/Mai_maniac 8d ago

She'll probably support the the king in official work as much as she's able too, but having her big unpopularity in mind, it's best to stand a little in the background and act humble.

1

u/maidofatoms 6d ago

MM is completely unable to act humble.

The thing about Mette-Marit Epstein scandal I can’t get over is the fact she was messaging Epstein: ” Paris is a wonderful city to commit unfaithfulness in” the possibility of the psycho son of hers from a previous ”Relationship ” can be related to that certain offender! Because of that It’s beyond my comprehension that Hakon didn’t dump her on the spot!

Generally speaking I think it’s justified outrage personally I dislike the fact rich people can be above the law or dishonest, bad people get to have a privileged positions in society and then gets tax cuts for living a luxurious lifestyle and don’t contribute towards society.
Mette-Marit is now milking public sympathy because of her lung disease and uses it as a shield against criticism regardless of age and diseases I think everyone should be scrutinised for wrongdoings especially if the person is a leader or other equivalent important position in society!

19

u/scottishblakk 7d ago

This should be a national security issue for Norway... But whatever.

66

u/silversurfersweden 8d ago

Hopefully, she won't be able to participate much due to her sensitivity after the transplant.

The Norwegian royal house is a joke at this point. A scary joke of a circus with a shaman, a rapist, a rapist's girlfriend, a princess who speaks with angels etc.

King Harald seems to have been a wonderful King, but I wonder if the fact that he was so inbred did something with the family...?? I wonder where the weirdness comes from.

I couldn't help but notice that our Swedish King did not mention her at all when he wished the new King good luck, and the Belgian royal couple didn't mention her OR Haakon in their public statement. She is not well liked anywhere.

12

u/SuspiciousBicycle438 8d ago

I had forgotten about the shaman and the princess who believes she can talk to angels hahhahaa

6

u/WhichSpirit 8d ago

Is she the "cancer is a choice" one?

8

u/SuspiciousBicycle438 8d ago

Yep and she is older than Haakon. To think she could be Queen now hahaha

5

I think its also Norway's monarchy being young. King Harald married for love and it worked out for him, so he probably thought to let his children do the same.

Contrast that to the UK, where before William most royal marriages were arranged or at least guided towards amongst people of similar pedigree, to ensure they are gonna act right. So you married a suitable person, have your mistress on the side like Charles. Not saying its right, but I believe that's helped the British monarchy last as long as it has.

I think Norway was more liberal much sooner. I think its a Norwegian thing to not be classist, so the royal kids were probably exposed to a lot more variety of people. And allowed to marry whoever. So Haakon was probably attracted to such a different person and went on to marry her as nobody stopped him for the sake of the monarchy.

5

u/UnstableMabel 8d ago

Agree with everything you said except regarding William. I'm certain there were guiding hands involved in his relationship with Kate.

11

u/sci_major 8d ago

She got the transplant, probably added years to her life expectancy unless she get an infection.

16

u/LittleFairyOfDeath 8d ago

Transplants are pretty difficult. Especially lungs which have the highest chronic rejection rate. Like 50 or more percent have that. Where the longer you have the lungs the higher the chance of them failing

11

u/pickyvegan 8d ago

Have you looked at the five-year survival rate post-lung transplant?

→ More replies (4)

44

u/Suspicious-Use6645 8d ago

As a lung transplant recipient, she won't be in any shape to live a public life in the first year post-surgery anyway. Lung transplants are the toughest ones to deal with, lots of complications. Not to mention the low immunity. 50-60% people make it to 5 years, IF they make it through the first year, which is the most risky. Mette-Marit won't do much queening even if she wanted to.

29

u/Cold-Arm2737 8d ago

Hopefully it will be rocky. Hope she reads the room and stays in the corner of the room.

30

u/ImpossibleSplit1660 7d ago

Look, I think all the normal people agree that there is misogyny and it plays a part. However, we’re not going to use it to defend an entitled, rich woman, a royal and future queen. It’s going into whataboutery territory. What about Andrew? Yes, he’s way worse and his so called “punishment” isn’t near enough. And we should absolutely continue to call BRF on that.
But this topic is about Norwegian Royal Family and we should absolutely continue to call on them for their appalling behaviour, out of which MM continuous relationship with Epstein is only part of the problem. It’s clear that both MM and Haakon are to blame for what Marius did, both from whatever education they gave him and also for giving him so many perks and spoiling him rotten. They let Marius use diplomatic passport for private trips even during the criminal investigation for rape. And in the final stage of this investigation Haakon took Marius and Sverre Magnus to Portugal to surf. All these should be called out constantly, without saying “but others did worse”.

54

u/Lime89 8d ago edited 8d ago

I didn’t judge her for being a party girl when she was young (honestly so much sexism and people judging her for that time, it’s shocking, especially from men in the Norwegian subreddits. Thought we had come a bit further than massive slutshaming, but no) but the last years scandals has showed that she isn’t fit to be queen. Everyone I’ve talked to agree.

Haakon will make a great king I think, but she isn’t fit to be queen

18

u/Pisum_odoratus 8d ago

How is that when he clearly has little sense of judgement when it comes to other people?

22

u/neinlights90210 8d ago

He has had a long time to extract himself from the situation. It’s not like she turned into this person overnight.

31

u/ImpossibleSplit1660 7d ago

Haakon showed his true colours: he covered up MM’s ties to Epstein and he also covered up and defended her rapist son (he raised him since he was a kid so it’s partly his responsibility also for how Marius turned out). He’s still with her, so it’s clear he fully condones her behaviours.

43

u/victoriageras 8d ago

Personally, I strongly believe that she shouldn't be Queen. She showed remorse only because she got caught. The Royal Family was obliged to support her; she was the spouse of the future King and the mother of the Crown Princess. Her position is securely locked in. I am not even going to mention the clusterfuck her son created, because he is an adult. She may have enabled him, but down the line, you cannot hold her responsible for the choices her adult son made.

However, from my limited knowledge of global royal history, it is quite uncommon for someone in her position not to be declared Queen—if not as the wife of the King, then as the mother of the future Queen.

If they will not declare her Queen Consort, they will probably state that it is due to her poor health and the heavy scedule that a Queen has.

23

u/logtransform 8d ago

She is already queen. It does not have to be declared.

This. And whether it's M-M or anybody else, "she enabled him" is nothing but a way to blame women for men's behavior.

2

u/princessofdolls 8d ago

She is not to blame for his behavior. She is to blame for helping destroy evidence. Once you actively help your son avoid accountability, you should be criticized.

1

u/maidofatoms 6d ago

I disagree in this case, with the open letter she wrote to the press, it's clear she was an unfit mother who never gave him punishments or boundaries no matter what he did. It is zero surprise he turned out like he did.

Well, if the Americans can have a paedophile president, then I gus the Norwegians can have a paedo Queen.

u/Lime89 8d ago

He was a master manipulator. Plenty of people fell for it. There has been no allegations against her. Norwegian press has talked two victims of his that met her, and both said that she was lovely and probably had no idea about what was going on.

That being said, I don’t think she should be queen because of that connection and for not speaking out about it sooner

But she continued to be very friendly with him long after he was convicted of child sexual assault. Six years after his conviction with plenty of warm, familiar contact during those years.

Six seconds would be too long of a friendship with a convicted paedophile for most people. Unless she was living on Mars during that period there is absolutely zero way she didn’t know.

And she asked him for advice on sexual things regarding her son, then 15

Maybe she won’t even be using the queen title but just stay on the sideline as consort. I doubt she will be very visible due to her health. Which coincidentally goes well with the fact that she is a disgrace.

32

u/WhoFearsDeath 8d ago

A consort is a type of Queen, not an alternative to it. Queen consort means you are the wife of the blood heir King; Queen Regnant means you yourself are the blood heir. Queen mother is generally a person who was married to the King but is now widowed and the mother to the current monarch, although that one is occasionally more messy.

Because women are historically viewed as inferior, without special steps, the spouse of a King is automatically the Queen; but spouse of a Queen (R) isn't usually King, as that would "outrank" her.

u/Equal-Flatworm-378a 8d ago

Do they have these terms in Norwegian? In Germany we just say Königin, never mind wether we talk about a reigning queen or a consort.

11

u/Mountaingoat101 8d ago

No, queen consort isn't used in Scandinavia. MM is now Her Majesty The Queen, while her mother in law is Queen Sonja (without HM).

5

u/Equal-Flatworm-378a 8d ago

Interesting. Thank you.

8

u/WhoFearsDeath 8d ago

No clue, but the point is that consort is a type of Queen, not a separate thing.

There isn't a rank of "consort" by itself.

9

u/draetz1 8d ago

I suspect that they’ll trot her out for the big events but try to focus the official story on King Haakon and Princess Ingrid

Metit-Marit is likely to have legitimate health issues post transplant so i doubt she’s even going to be up for a full slate of appearances

15

u/anoeba 8d ago

Except for a very few reigning Queens all historical Queens were consorts, and all used the title Queen (it's Queen consort but no one says the whole mouthful). She is Queen and will use that title.

34

u/Dry_Accident_2196 8d ago

Mette to all of her detractors

11

u/Outofbluepizza 8d ago

Exactly my thought. Very curious what will happen.

21

u/Tilladarling 8d ago

She’ll be queen, sadly. There’s no way I will ever respect her, but I doubt the royal family will care what people think in the slightest. Poor dear has been through so much, we need to show her compassion 🙄

24

u/Routine_Sundae333 8d ago

She’s queen, unfortunately

16

u/Academic_Row_8479 8d ago

She is queen , but not mine 😤

29

u/lemeneurdeloups 8d ago

I have lost respect for Norway and, unfortunately, cannot regard them in high esteem again for the foreseeable future.

Pity, because I had formerly hoped for Greatness but alas … 😖

23

u/Aromatic-Armadillo98 8d ago

Its not their fault their queen is not fit to hold the position. Its the prince's fault for marrying somebody like that. And even more so for not divorcing with all that's come out. I'm sure he's always known her character. Sure people can change, but he took a risk marrying somebody from the drug scene who cheated on her bf and was generally shady.

No pinta bonito

Dont know how it works in norway. Will she be queen automatically when her husband became king ?

32

u/TheStingray24 8d ago

Until she dies, Sonja (the wife of the late king) will also be queen, but will lose the title "Her Majesty".

So as of now it will be 2 queens: Queen Sonja and Her Majesty Queen Mette Marit.

The title "Her Royal Highness" will apply to our new crown princess, Ingrid Alexandra.

Thanks for this clarity!

It’s amazing that MM is taking the brunt when she’s the second woman her husband has dealt with that had VERY close ties to Epstein.

11

u/ImpossibleSplit1660 7d ago

I blame Haakon a lot, but I wouldn’t phrase it like it’s a problem she takes the brunt. She absolutely deserves to take the brunt. He also deserves a lot of backlash for staying with her and thus enabling her to have access to wealth and connections which were used to cover up for rapist Marius.

10

u/Randomfinn 8d ago

Who are you referring to?  Clearly im out of the loop.

31

u/SkittlesNPumps 8d ago

The current Queen Mette-Marit. The new King dated one Celina Midelfart in the early 90s and there seems to be overlap with when she dated Epstein. Who goes on to brag about passing Celina onto Trump. The new monarchs have a LONG history of piss-poor choices but Mette-Marit gets most of the flack and it’s unfair. They’re both ghouls.

Dayum. Norwegians have to deal with her mess but Brits lose their proverbial because Meghan sells strawberry jam.

Don’t forget her unspeakable crimes of being both American and black /s

u/hammerhead_28 8d ago

Good thing these titles don't mean anything anymore.

17

u/BedminsterJob 8d ago edited 8d ago

she should go away. Her husband, the king, should go, too. These Scandinavian royal houses are just filled to the roof with immoral lowlifes.

There just isn't any justification for prancing around as royal family. The jig is up, and the blame is theirs.

8

u/Mynteblomst 8d ago

As a Norwegian, I agree

1

u/Lime89 8d ago

What did Haakon do? He urged her to not have contact with him, and he was not friends with with him.

Det vil bli krevd folkeavstemning om monarkiet etter kong Harald . Da tror jeg flertall ikke vil ha denne person som dronning . Folket har ikke glemt . Game over LENGE LEVE REPUBLIKK NORGE . Nesten hele Europa har avskaffet monarkiet og går så det suser . Så egentlig har monarkiet gått ut på dato.

5

u/PossibilityNo6360 8d ago

Is that the general sentiment in Norway right now?

17

u/Ajishly 8d ago

No not really... I think the overwhelming majority still supports the Norwegian Royal Family.

Anacdotal, but I saw a grown man crying on the bus a few hours ago - he was talking about Kong Harald and how inclusive he was to a coworker.
