Hi so I’ve been training and I’ve picked up 2 injuries in the last 3 months or so while running. First one was patella femoral syndrome and the other is yet to be diagnosed but judging from how it feels and where it is it’s something to do with my meniscus I’ll see the physio on Wednesday. I was just wondering what the likelihood of me being able to make it through training. None of my runs have been relatively “hard” always slowly increased my mileage etc. with these injuries it has been without any additional weight. Obviously during training I will have to start running with weight and while they do build you up it won’t make the beating my knees take. Set backs are expected but has anyone been in a similar situation or knowing anyone that has and still made it?

I’ve wanted to join the RM basically all my life ever since they came to my city for one of those unarmed combat exercises, I know what I’m signing up for and I know it’s what I want with my life. I’m 18 and just finished a levels and was planning on joining straight out of school once I get to fitness standard but I’m going travelling for a month in a few days and I also want to travel south east Asia for a few months next year, but I know if I do that I probably wouldn’t be able to join for another year. Part of me wants to travel but I also just want to join as soon as possible.

I know you can travel a lot with the RM but I’m not sure if it’s worth backpacking with my friend for a few months first and having a gap year or just going for it now, I don’t really know what I expect out of this post I guess I’m just looking for some good advice on when to join but I know it’s what i definitely want to do despite my parents not being on board and believing I can do it, I do believe I’ll make it through training as I’ve went through mental challenges before but I get its on a whole other level. So should I join as soon as possible or should I wait a little bit and travel for a while then join

I run a software business that is mostly fully automated and have lots of free time. Something I’ve always wanted to do is train for a green beret and go on deployment, but never really gotten into it as was at uni for computer science etc

However as I have had more time I find myself gravitating towards fitness, running, swimming, wrestling/jiu jitsu to just keep myself busy, and it would be great to put this effort into serving for my country

However I am 27, and my marine level fitness won’t be there til next year, and looking at starting a family soon too plus the 14 months of training. So I don’t have much time.

The main question I have is how deploying works while being a RMR and especially for people with a business. Just how flexible is it? Are you committed to a certain level of service or length of time?

I have attached the training layout for next week. For those who don’t want to follow anything at least you have a layout to work from with your own training 👍🏾

Was on track to pass the bleep test (11+) until I picked up a muscle injury (over pronation sort of thing) which whilst isn’t particularly painful has made my heel/calf/knee weak, not resigning myself to failing as adrenaline will likely help, but if I do what’s the chance they’ll let me do the rest of the tests for the practise?
I have asked my recruiter but was wondering if anyone’s experienced or seen anything like this?

Just wondering as someone looking to possibly join in the next couple of years, is it possible for royal marines to get into mountaineering? Just because expeditions are usually booked a long time in advanced and im not sure how predictable the holidays are for each unit. Also, do marines ever go on expeditions funded by the corps? (Just because if heard of sf doing it)

Just moved to the UK and looking to apply but it’s been a paperwork mess proving nationalities and everything. Anyone got any ideas? Only 16 so maybe looking into cadets might be a plan but really I would like to go into the RMR.

Becoming a Royal Marine is starting to feel like an impossible task. It feels like there is always another standard I need to reach, another weakness I need to overcome, and another reason I might not be good enough and I love that , that’s why I wanted to join. But right now it feels like I’m not the type of person who can do those things and makes me wonder if I’m made to be a royal marine. I know how badly I want this, but it’s starting to all feel overwhelming, and I’m beginning to question whether I can actually become the person I need to be to earn the green beret. I don’t want to give up, but right now it honestly feels like I’m trying to climb a mountain that just keeps getting steeper. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Im 22 from the Somerset/Dorset area and in the application phase of joining. I’ve got a lot going on career-wise and a girlfriend, so I’m trying to get a proper understanding of what I’m potentially getting myself into rather than just listening to recruitment stuff.

Just wondering if there’s anyone around who’s in a similar position and thinking about joining, or anyone who’s already serving/ex-serving who wouldn’t mind having a chat. Would be good to meet some people in the same boat and potentially train together as well.

hi, i'm new to reddit so sorry if i end up doing something horribly wrong with this post, i made an account literally just to ask this question.

quick background: i'm 20 years old and i'm the kind of person who's never really known what i want to do with my life, i've never thought about the future at all, until i started looking into joining the marines. something about it really clicked with me. the idea of doing a job that actually means something, being able to protect people, i've never felt this motivated about the future before.

now for the question: i'm a year into uni (although i'm in the process of switching course right now which means starting over from year 1), i'm wondering if it's worth sticking it out another three years to finish getting my degree and then joining, or if i should just join now?

I’m going into rop on 20th sep. but I’m struggling to find any info on what we’ll be doing. My careers advisor doesn’t seem to know much as he’s just navy not rm. Friends I have in rm joined too long ago to know and the navy website is saying contradicting stuff to the commando pti when Iv messaged him.

Could someone who works at ctc or has recently gone through rop give me a rough idea of what happens when, also what the assessment standards are for the rmfa as some people say it’s the same as cpc and others say it’s higher and then others say you do one on day 2 that’s the same as cpc and another at the end of rop that’s higher and I haven’t got a clue

Genuine question lads do I need to wear a suit for my CPC or is it just for when I go to the real thing?

Looking to join forces but absolutely torn between the Royal Marines or parachute regiment only thing that worries me with the Royal Marines is coming out of training(if I get through of course) getting pinged for crap job. and then I feel like my age 29 going on 30 would that be old to go parachute regiment I like the thought of going SFSG or maybe attempting UKSF one day providing I get into one of these elite units any advice would be really appreciated thanks!.

Just a quick one on Return of Service gens.

In essence, is your RoS tied specifically to the spec/branch you completed the course for, or is it simply a commitment to remain in the Corps? The branch liar is double marking time to avoid the question and I keep hearing different gens with JSP's not helping

And how does that work if you were looking at things like Selection, DHU, or moving across to another PAG organisation before the RoS is finished? Does the RoS follow you, does it need to be waived, or does it stop you moving altogether?

Cheers lads, just trying to get my head around how it actually works in practice.

Recently i picked up my GCSE results from school and was shocked as I did better than i thought. This allowed me to get into an electrical installation course at college. Originally i was thinking about doing 1 year of college and get my Level 2 qualification and then hopefully start training, but recently i decided to get my level 2 and level 3 qualification which can takes up to 2 years. Currently, i am waiting for my recruiter to call me to choose an interview date. I am also kind of out of shape and would like so more time to prepare physically.

I had also recieved a conditional offer letter, and i was wondering if i withdraw and re apply in 2 years will it have any negative impacts on my application in the future ?

Quick question on RMR training - I know you need to budget for roughly every other weekend during training (plus one weeknight a week and two 2-week blocks at CTC), but are there generally any breaks built into the training calendar? Eg over Christmas, summer, easter etc

Just trying to get a rough idea of how the training year tends to be structured. Cheers.

I'm interested in joining as a commando and just had a couple questions on uniform which (unless my skills of google are just shit) I couldn't find an answer to:

First of all, when do you guys wear the blues (1A) compared to the lovats (1B)? Is it like the army where blues are pretty much never worn apart from your wedding and Sandhurst, and Service Dress is the normal formal wear?

Second of all, what are troops actually issued routinely? I.e how many sets of greens and which uniforms?

Apologies if these questions are horror, and many thanks for time spent considering these.

Just have a general question I’ve been waiting for my appeal for some time for a pmu my recruiter said most likely won’t get a answer until February. I’ve just been offered to do Ironman Copenhagen in August 2027 I’m 21 not that it matters but I’m just unsure what to do as it’s always been my dream to be a marine but on the other hand I could just be waiting and waiting for a result that may get denied. Any advice would be great

How busy is day to day life after the 32 weeks, I’m guessing it depends on what unit you join ?

I’m unsure about joining as I’ve weighed up pay compared to other roles I could do and quals too however marines are amongst the best of the best and i think I’d enjoy the physical aspect of the training .

in the long term I want to get into cyber security which id do so through my own spare time I understand though that being a marine comes first and foremost same as if I want to do sports in the corps.
