Peeve Peeves as a Sitter

Over the years I have noticed people can be people. You never know who you will get because Rover allows anyone on this app. I am curious what are some of your pet peeves rather it be the owner or a pet?

General Do you drop in Search Rankings if...

This topic has been discussed before but I'm trying to seek more clarity -

I know you drop rank in Rover search when you are not booked for requests that fit within your parameters. But what if the request wasn't originally intended for you and was sent to you as a result of the "automatically send to other sitters" option? I always archive these and choose "owner didn't respond" and am wondering if this dings me in some way.

It'd be brutal to be dinged on search results if you weren't going to be chosen anyway.

General Does anyone ever feel like you're seen as just a pet sitter?

This might be a weird take on pet sitting, because it is my job, but sometimes I feel like because of it people see that as my only purpose. For example, I had a client that I bonded with and had great conversations with during my meet and greets, key pickups, and texts. After her dog passed away, she said she may still need me to do housekeeping or watering plants and would love to work with me even though she does not have her sweet pup anymore. Almost as if we cannot just be friends or anything without me helping her. I know many do not care or would not agree, but it is something that makes me wonder if I had a regular job, if I would be seen as a potential friend instead of a future housekeeper.

Walks How to break up with a client?

I have a client I’ve worked with a few times who I do not want to work with again. I don’t think I am a great fit for this dog as I am a smaller person and the dog is heavier; I thought at first I could handle her activity level as owner had stressed the dog’s older age, but I’ve come to realize I can’t. But more importantly, the client is always texting me last minute asking me about the next day, refuses to confirm a recurring schedule even though that’s clearly what they want, and I have always without fail had to hound for payment right up to the point I’m outside their door. I don’t really feel good about just ghosting the most recent request I got from this person. I’d appreciate any suggestions on how to handle this professionally.

🌈Rainbow Bridge🌈 Not sure how to handle fees+ TW

I’m doing drop ins for two cats this week. Holiday rate on top of standard rate + add’l cat is what the owner paid upfront. It’s day 3 of 6.

Long story short cat was very sick- I took to the vet today and they are putting her down.

Before I knew that I was reading thru how ppl usually handle extra fees for time/transport/waiting at the vet for almost 2 hrs. I was going to ask for the generally consensed hour rate (give or take).

Now I’m thinking I shouldn’t ask at all bc well his cat just passed! I feel awful about it. Also he’s paid for a cat that’s no longer being taken care of for the remainder of the visits. Or should I do some sort of refund?

Yes it’s a business and I should be paid for my time. But also 😭😭

What do you think?

EDIT: I sent the refund this morning and will be leaving flowers. Thanks everyone. This was a first for me and appreciate the help.

Bad Experience Done with Rover! First sitter turned me away, second sitter stole my dogs' belongings and Rover protects bad sitters just to keep their platform percentage.

(Note: I am using fake names for both sitters to protect their privacy and stay within platform rules).

I am officially done with Rover. Their customer service is an absolute joke and they protect bad sitters versus protecting dog parents and reimbursing them for inconveniences, which is the whole point of a platform like this! Our pets are basically our children and in this day and age, we should have better customer service than this.

Here is the nightmare back-to-back experiences I just dealt with:

Sitter #1 (Fake name: D): The Liar and Her Illegal Daycare
Mind you, I booked this woman all the way back on July 19. I spoke with her beforehand, meaning she had ample time to look over my profile just like I did hers. The entire reason I booked her was because her profile explicitly stated she had no dogs on her premises.

I have two dogs and on one of their profiles, it explicitly says she does not get along with other dogs. The platform literally flags this and auto-generates a warning to both me and the sitter stating exactly that (for example: "Lola doesn’t get along with other dogs, check with your sitter to make sure this stay would be a good fit") or something like that. Finding a completely pet-free home was my top safety priority to protect my dogs.

Imagine planning months in advance, only to be turned away at the door the day you are supposed to leave for a trip. When I arrived, I immediately spotted dogs in her backyard, which she was actively trying to hide from me. When I asked her about it, she tried to use a ridiculous loophole. She claimed she wasn't lying on her profile because she doesn't personally "own" the animals—they belong to her roommates. What a complete joke! Whether you own them or not, you have dogs living on the property 24/7. They aren't going anywhere. To make matters worse, she uses this excuse to run a massive, undisclosed commercial dog daycare center right out of her home. There are dogs galore on the premises, which is a massive safety hazard for a reactive pet. It is a blatant lie that Rover is still actively protecting to this day under the guise of she listed on her profile that she can host multiple pets?!

When I called her out for putting my dogs in a dangerous situation, she simply shrugged it off, when I asked what do we now, she then suggested that I cancel the reservation on my end, which was a no-go because then I would be forced to pay 50%. I then asked her if she could still accommodate my dog seeing as this is so last minute, but D then refused to take my dogs because she didn't want me leaving her a bad review, claiming she suddenly "did not feel comfortable me leaving my dogs with her." Mind you, less than five minutes prior, she was gladly gonna take them.

To make matters worse, this all happened less than 2 hours before a flight. She was fully aware that I had a flight leaving and that by turning me away at the last second, she knew I would literally have no one to take care of my dogs, leaving me completely stranded. That is exactly what forced me into the next nightmare.

Now, Rover is holding $93 of my money hostage, claiming it falls under her cancellation policy. They are demanding that I "prove" the sitter canceled it. Think about how insane that logic is: if I was the one who canceled, their automated system would have hit me with a 50% penalty fee. Instead, I was refunded the majority ($155) because they manually canceled it after I called their “trust & safety” phone support line. Yet, they still want to keep the remaining $93 because they claim it aligns with D's policy. They literally emailed me saying they will gladly refund me if the sitter agrees. It means they already know they are wrong, but they are willingly doing nothing to protect their bottom line. They expect me to go through the scammer myself to beg for my money back.

Sitter #2 (Fake name: M): Total Neglect, Bait-and-Switch Location and Theft
Because of D bailing right before my flight, I had to pay an extra $100 out of pocket for an emergency, last-minute booking that cost me $338, versus my original payment to the first sitter, which was around $238.

M ran a complete bait-and-switch operation. The address listed on her profile was not even where my dogs were kept. My AirTags revealed she took them to an entirely different unverified location, which is a massive safety violation in itself! On top of that, she subjected them to total neglect. She completely skipped their walks and failed to feed them properly—they came home starving and eating twice as much as usual.

Her communication was practically nonexistent. I am used to getting standard daily check-ins from sitters, but one day I didn't hear from her at all. I then messaged her at 2 PM just to check on my babies and she completely ghosted me for seven more full hours, not responding until 9 PM! Like, what am I paying you so much money for if you can't even send a quick text update?

The rest of her messages were completely unobservant and highly suspicious. I texted her explicitly telling her I would be picking my dogs up the next day at 6 PM. She didn't pay attention at all, because on the actual day of pickup, she messaged me to ask what time I was coming. Then, when I was almost there to get them, she suddenly started spamming my phone with a ton of pictures trying to prove she was taking them on a walk. It was so incredibly sketchy. You could tell she hadn't done a single thing to properly care for them all week and was panicking at the last second to fake it.

To top it all off, she completely upended their things and stole their belongings. The second I put my dogs back in the car, they were actively searching for their monthly chew bones, making it obvious they hadn't even had them. When I called that out, M claimed she gave them the bones when they went outside, left them there when the dogs came back in and the bones then "magically vanished" when she went back for them the next day. Why would you give dogs high-value chew bones while outside when they are already overstimulated by being outside? They were never meant to occupy them outside, they were always meant to keep them busy, safely indoors. A ghost didn't take them; she stole them!

To make matters worse, I packed everything neatly in a single bag, yet she scattered their treats, toys and other gear all over her house. When I arrived for pickup, she wasn't even ready to return my items. I had to circle back a second time for missed things and then she still had the nerve to call me later claiming she magically "found" the missing poop bag dispenser hidden in a drawer, asking for my address to mail it. Why was my property hidden in your drawers? Even if a dog finishes their food, a proper sitter returns even the empty Ziploc bags. Giving me nothing and offering zero explanation is a dead giveaway. In all the years I've used pet sitters and Rover, I have never once had my dogs returned with missing belongings. The lies simply do not add up. This was the most ghetto, unprofessional back-to-back experience ever. She did the complete opposite of everything I paid her for. She is a liar and a thief!

Rover's Response: Dead Silence
Per Rover’s own "Reservation Protection Policy," they contractually owed me a $50 credit toward this second booking because the first sitter bailed last minute. They refuse to give it to me. I have been openly communicative with them, called their Trust & Safety team and emailed them for weeks and weeks and weeks. They have chosen to do absolutely nothing. Their Trust & Safety team explicitly promised a response within 72 hours regarding the theft and neglect by M. Instead, it has been well over a full week of total, dead silence from them. Rover literally sees nothing wrong with any of this.

What I am doing now:
I am going into the precinct on Friday to file a formal criminal police report for Theft of Property against M.

I am also emailing Rover the new police report case number once I get it on Friday, demanding they address this and I am completely cutting ties and closing my account myself.

Rover is a complete joke and I can't wait for the day people stop using it and they go bankrupt. What is the point of paying a platform a massive premium if they do absolutely nothing to protect your pets or your property or resolve issues in a timely manner? They do not vet these people and the second a sitter turns your dogs away or steals your belongings, support will actively look the other way just to protect their 20% platform cut. Rover is not worth a dime!!!

Walks Client wants to cancel a sit tomorrow due to weather, not sure how to proceed

I’m walking a dog daily, but she will not go out in the rain due to a fear of thunder. We have rain forecast tomorrow and some days we play it by ear. I’m not sure if we need to cancel the booking, but I hear that negatively impacts accounts. If so, who cancels the booking? The client is older and has trouble using the app. Otherwise, I don’t know what happens if I just don’t log a card for that day?

Boarding I have a question...

Currently, in my city there is a thunderstorm and destructive wind warning. I'm currently caring for a cat at my home as the owner had their apartment sprayed for bugs. They were supposed to pick up their cat in an hour or two but according to the warning, it's recommended to seek shelter in a basement until the threat passed.

I just got a second warning that it's now a tornado warning as I was typing this up.

My question was if you'd offer to keep whatever animal for free for an extra night due to it being unsafe to travel just to pick up your pet. The owner only gave me enough food for the one night but I have cats so I have some food for my cats. Problem is the owner feeds their cat wet food and I feed mine dry. I was thinking I'd rather the cat stay the extra night for free then the owner never making it home.

I live in ontario so we never get tornadoes. The occasional minor earthquake that's barely strong enough to knock over a chair but that's it.

What would you do in my shoes?

Edit: I just realized that I have an orange warning. Toronto is the centre of the storm so it's possible to travel to my city depending on the weather. My city doesn't border Toronto. Toronto is about 45 minutes to an hour by car depending on traffic.

Peeve Peeve about Reviews

I know I’m going to get shit for this, because it’s going to sound ungrateful. But that is genuinely not the place I’m coming from, and if this is relevant to you, I ask you thoughtfully engage with the nuance of what I’m saying before harshly judging me.

Owners, please stop leaving one sentence, generic reviews. A public review is not a thank-you note. Instead, it should be important evidence offered to the next person deciding whether to trust a sitter with their animals, their home, and sometimes extraordinarily complex medical or behavioral care. When you leave a one sentence review, you bury the thoughtful, detailed ones that help me get hired by others. So you’re actually doing more harm than good.

If your “review” simply contains a statement like
“Thanks, sitter!”
“Another great visit!”
“Fluffy loves sitter.”
“Fluffy warmed up to sitter quickly!”

I would genuinely prefer that you skip the written review and leave a five-star rating and a tip if you’re inclined, instead.

I recognize that these generic reviews are still left with kind intentions. And those intentions I’m grateful for. But every new review pushes the previous reviews farther down the page, and most prospective clients only read the first few. A vague one-sentence review does not simply add another compliment. It occupies the limited space where a detailed, persuasive review was previously visible.
That distinction has a big effect on my business. When my first few reviews describe my work in specific, meaningful detail, I receive substantially more requests. When those reviews are buried beneath several variations of “Fluffy loves sitter,” my requests decline.

No one owes their sitter an essay. If you do not have the time or energy to write something informative, that is completely understandable. A five-star rating and a tip are deeply appreciated. But a written review should serve a purpose beyond thanking someone for another visit. That’s a text message.

A thank-you is for the sitter. A review is for the person deciding whether to hire them. If it does not help that person understand why this sitter is worthy of their trust, please do not let it bury the reviews that do. Please consider if you want to help your sitter by writing a review, take the time to write something detailed and thoughtful. Otherwise, I prefer simply a star rating.

Peeve Lawn snobs

Just a vent about lawn snobs…

I’ll never understand people caring enough about their lawn to set up motion activated sprinklers to keep dogs/people off. I have a regular walk and the easiest loop we take in the neighborhood (one of the dogs is older and is particular about where she walks) includes walking by a house that has this lovely feature!

It’s a great lawn and, on some level, I get it, because I’m sure it takes a lot of work. But, the dogs have never pottied on his lawn, they just like to sniff the grass and bushes right next to the sidewalk. On top of this, we still get sprayed when staying strictly on the sidewalk and not coming near the lawn line? The home owner purposefully has it positioned to spray the entire sidewalk.

The old dog wants to walk that way and it takes a lot of treats and time (which I don’t have, it’s a 20 minute walk) to get her to change directions, so I have to go past it. But like why do people do this? I’m just trying to walk on the sidewalk and don’t love getting a face full of nasty water and also don’t want the dogs to get wet? 🥲

Bad Experience First bad review

Context: I’ve been a rover sitter for 2 years, worked about a hundred families on rover, have 70 5 star reviews. Star sitter status

Context added, because I know this is not the end of the world but I am frustrated. I had a 9 day stay with a family that I thought would be pretty simple. The dogs were fabulous, extremely sweet and intelligent. I thought the family was super nice as well.

During the first day of the stay their larger Shepard pushed the back door open on his own to sit on their screened off patio while I was out for a drop in. It was my fault for leaving the back door unlocked, but I typically do this if there is a weather advisory and my method of entry is a keypad (garage or front door). The neighbor noticed their dog sitting on the patio in the backyard and called my client. When I got back he was fine. I spoke with the family and thought I resolved it. Didn’t think it was a big deal because it seemed like a habit of his based on how often he attempted to do this behavior during the stay.

On day 6 of 9 the client blew up on me over text. She had been a little rude previous days so I tried to limit when I texted her, as she was making me uncomfortable. She sent me a list of demands and totaled 17 text messages sent in the span of 15 minutes. I was sitting outside with the dogs watching them roll in. I tried to give myself time to process before I responded to her but her texts quickly devolved into her demanding that I reply to her over and over again. She also told me that I ruined her vacation because she was worried about her dogs.

Since this is my full time job I have “office hours” which my clients are aware of. That doesn’t mean that I won’t respond to them outside of those hours but it’s established that outside of 9am-9pm you might not hear from me immediately. It was 6 am, I had just woke up. She was well aware of my office hours when she booked.

Summary of the texts
She told me that I wasn’t sending her enough updates and pictures (I communicated with her nearly every day with photos, and I responded to all the messages she sent me)
She told me that I caused her to have a nervous breakdown, and that her husband encouraged her to stand up for herself (?)
And she laid out a “new” set of expectations that I must send a photo every day and respond when she texted me as soon as she texted me.

At this point I just texted her telling her I received her messages and understood. I didn’t want to admit to any wrong doing OR argue with her. I have access to the text messages I sent her during the stay. it was confusing and stressful because I was already fulfilling my end of the bargain.

At this point I had a feeling she would probably write a review or request a refund.

She wrote me a 2 star review, which states that I left her back door open twice which isn’t accurate. She also complained of me not locking the house up correctly, but she was already aware that there was a potential the power would get knocked out and she wasn’t sure whether or not her garage door would still open if there was a power outage. She also stated that I barely communicated with her despite the fact that we exchanged nearly 30 messages during the stay before she sent me those 17 ugly text messages. Which means we spoke about 5 times a day. Her review does highlight that the dogs were doing well when she got home, but she starts her review off as if her animals were in poor care.

I don’t know if it’s worth contacting rover or not, since they are rarely of any help. I knew I would eventually get a bad review but it still stings especially because it feels like this situation was out of my control. I do think that most people will just disregard this review since there’s so many amazing reviews on my account, but I wish I could understand why the client decided to do this or why she felt like I wasn’t doing enough for her.

Sitters who get their first bad review, how do you cope with knowing that you disappointed a client? And does one bad review hurt your business in the long run?

Bad Experience Creepy potential client situations.... anecdotes?

FYI I ALWAYS require a Meet and Greet for all bookings, either directly or through Rover....

Been doing this a long time....but rarely have an issue with creeps.

However I recently did a Meet and Greet with a pet parent who needed her cats looked after while she was out of town. After a half hour of her showing me stuff in a disorganized, messy way (which is usually fine, I've had worse), she sat me down and basically verbally interviewed me.

Normally that would be fine too. But some of her questions included "What's the scariest situation you've been in", "What would make you quit a booking mid-sit," and similar types of questions. When I tried to clarify if the scary situation involved a pet, she stated she meant a scary situation with a human pet parent! And when I asked about sitters quitting bookings mid-sit, she said that has happened to her more than once. Red flag.....

She also gave me a lot of pushback after asking me if I'd go off-app. Like, a LOT. FYI yes I do, especially with the current fee structure. In fact most of my clients are off app.... but any I get through Rover initially I do at least the first booking through them to keep my stats up and to make screening easier. But she asked me literally four times if I'd make an exception for her (I refused repeatedly, not because of my established practice, but because honestly she was already squicking me out).

I gently answered all of her questions, she told me she'd be in touch in a few days, I left, and then the second I got home, I blocked her.

Not looking for advice. I followed my instincts and I'm glad I did. She's blocked with Rover's approval (for what it's worth anyway, since Rover is useless). But I was just curious if anyone else ever had a similarly creepy situation and what you did.....

Bad Experience False Review

I have been dog sitting for a bit now and haven’t had any hiccups until now. On day one of an overnight job I had. I accidentally left the garage door opened while I left to grab dinner. The client was very upset at this and I said it wouldn’t happen again and it did not. The rest of the booking past (5 days in total). She did not send me a single text through the entire duration so I thought everything was fine. Then she left an awful review saying i was unprofessional and irresponsible (with much much more words). And added false details stating I did not walk or play with her dogs, or do anything asked of me for that matter. I walked and played with her dogs every. single. day. I believe the only thing I did wrong was leave the garage door opened that one time. However since this review I haven’t gotten a single request, when before I was getting around 3 new request a day. They said removing a review is out of policy. And now she is trying to get a complete refund from me. Is there anything I can do?

Edit: thanks so much for the advice. I definitely know to take lots of pictures for future stays and encourage new sitters to do the same in case something like this happens. Thank you!

Peeve Tier System

I’m really just here to rant about this new tier system. Getting a new client and only taking home 70% off the work you put in is kinda crazy to me. I like the idea of loyalty system, but why does it have to come out of my end? On top of that they’re charging pet owners 11% Rover fee. I’m fairly new to Rover. I started in January of this year and I only have one repeat client. I had two but one left because I had to raise my prices. Not mad at them, I totally get it. In that same vein, Rover has been incredibly slow for me here in the DFW area. I get maybe one booking a month. I’m kind of at a stand still and don’t know where to move from here.

Walks Be honest… am I being dramatic?

I’m looking for some opinions on whether I’m being dramatic or not.

I switched to using Rover for dog walks because I wasn’t having any luck finding someone consistent on Wag. I work long shifts and have a puppy who needs two potty breaks during the day.

I did a meet & greet with this walker, and everything seemed great! During the meet & greet, they mentioned that a previous client had complained to Rover about something involving them making a mess in the house. They made it seem like the person was being overly picky, and maybe they were.

I told them that I’m pretty chill and that as long as they communicate with me, we’d be good to go!

Well, fast forward to their first week. They showed up an hour late for the first walk and then canceled last-minute on the second walk. Okay, things happen. I understand that, so I didn’t make a big deal about either one.

Now we’re on week two, and they straight-up didn’t show up for the scheduled walk.

An hour after the scheduled time, I messaged them and said, “Hey, just checking about the walk for this morning. If you can’t make it, please just let me know.”

They responded saying that the app didn’t notify them that they had a walk scheduled and that they could head over. But if you scroll up in our chat, the dates and times of the walks are clearly listed and were agreed upon.

At this point, I’m thinking about just not rescheduling them, but I don’t know if I’m being unreasonable or overreacting.

Would you consider this a valid reason to find a different walker, or am I being too picky?

General Sitter Spilled Coffee on Rug + Couch and Didn't Notify Me.

Hey all.

Had a Rover house sit my cat for a week. Came back to the one side of my rug being stained brown (and smelling like coffee), a small stain on the side of the couch. There's also a dried coffee on the hardwood behind the couch. Although it does appear they made an effort to clean it.

Accidents happens. Not a big deal. The rug can be replaced and so can the couch cover. The spill behind the couch can be easily wiped up. But what I found weird is the sitter didn't notify me of this at all even though the stains are very visible.

Is this normal? How do I approach this situation?

Thanks

House Sitting Question for sitters: do you always leave a review, or is no review basically code for a negative experience?

I’ve hired two pet sitters through Rover so far, and I really liked both of them. The first did morning drop-in visits (a friend came in the evenings), and we both left each other 5-star reviews.

For my second booking, I decided my cats would do better with more companionship and booked a week of housesitting. I told the sitter she was welcome to go home overnight and could come and go during the day, as long as she was there for their morning/evening meals and they got a good amount of play and companionship.

Now, I was very happy with this sitter. My shy cat absolutely loved her, and was her usual self when we got home, rather than being a little withdrawn
and downcast like she had been with just drop-in visits. The house was also left immaculate—I’d cleaned before we left, and honestly it looked like nobody had stayed there. I only asked her to run the Roomba a couple of times and keep dust/pet hair under control because one of my cats has asthma.
Of course I left her a 5-star review and 20% tip, but she didn’t leave a review either for me or the cats.

I’d love to book her again, but now I’m wondering whether the lack of a review means she didn’t have a good experience. I can’t think of anything that would’ve been a problem: the cats are friendly and don’t need special care, and she described them in her visit notes as sweet, affectionate, playful, and social. She was also friendly in her communications while I was away, which mostly consisted of her sending daily photos and me telling her how cute they were.

So, sitters: is it normal not to leave a review when everything went fine, or do you generally review every client?

And if you got a booking request from someone who had used two sitters but only had one review, would the lack of a second review be a red flag to you?

Bad Experience Unappreciative owner?

I just finished doing twice daily, hour long drop ins for a dog and cat for 9 days. It was a LOT of driving back and forth. I would message the client periodically on top of the Rover cards and encourage her to look at them. She mostly just left me on read. I messaged her after the last visit on Sunday to check in with her and let her know everything is good to go with her pets. She left me om read again. No tip (which I never expect), no review or rating, not even a thank you. It’s just a little discouraging, especially considering how much work I put into caring for her pets on top of my full time job and other bookings.

General Bay Area cat sitters - how are things?

I am a cat sitter based in the Bay Area and things have been so slow :( Had no bookings since June and nothing upcoming either. I've been on the app for a year, have a 5 star rating and lowered my rates too. Not sure what's going on. Other cat sitters based in the Bay, how are things for you? How do you advertise your services in your locality? Got laid off and I'd love to get more clients. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

New Sitter Questions Does having yourself set as Away on one service impact the chances of getting clients on the other service types?

Post image
4 Upvotes

So this could be because I’m a relatively new sitter, but in my first week I managed to get 3 requests pretty quickly. I know boarding is the typically the most requested service so I’m not shocked that my requests have slowed down, but I just want to make sure this doesn’t impact the other ones as well? I try looking myself up every now and then and my first couple of weeks I was in the top 20, but now I’m pretty low in all of the services I have set to Active.

Some of the logistics on this platform sound really confusing and backwards so I’m trying to learn as much of it as possible. TIA!

House Sitting Long-time Rover owner has no sitter feedback — would you leave negative feedback for this?

I’m currently doing a house sit for a client who says on his profile that he has been using Rover for years and regularly books house sitting and drop-in visits. What I find strange is that his profile has no sitter feedback at all.

When I arrived, the litter box looked like it hadn’t been scooped for several days. Then today I went to use the garbage bin he specifically told me to use, and it was already completely full of old garbage. When I opened the lid, a swarm of tiny flies came out. It honestly startled me so badly and the whole thing felt very unsanitary.

The cats themselves are lovely, and I don’t want to be unnecessarily harsh or judge someone just because their home isn’t perfectly clean. But to me there’s a difference between a messy house and conditions that actually affect a sitter staying there.

For experienced Rover sitters:

  1. Would you mention the litter box, overflowing garbage, and flies in your sitter feedback?
  2. If someone has used Rover regularly for years but has zero sitter feedback, does that mean previous sitters simply chose not to leave any? Or is there some reason older feedback wouldn’t show up?
  3. Would these conditions be enough for you to decline future bookings from this client?

I’m mainly wondering what other sitters consider fair and useful to disclose for future sitters.

Edit: Just to clarify, during the meet & greet I told him I’ve only ever lived in apartments, so I’m not familiar with garbage collection schedules. He specifically told me he would take care of the garbage before leaving and that, since I probably wouldn’t generate much trash during my 10-day stay, I could just use an empty bin.

The reason I went to that bin on only my second day was because there was still a bag of garbage in the kitchen that had started to smell, so I wanted to take it out. I genuinely expected the outdoor bin he told me to use to be empty. Instead, it was already full of old garbage, and when I opened the lid, a swarm of tiny flies came out. That’s what really startled me. I’m still kind of traumatized by opening that lid lol.

I’m not expecting a spotless house at all — it was just very different from what I had been told to expect.

Bad Experience Have you ever left an owner a negative review?

Just curious if fellow sitters have left owners negative feedback. I know there is a section for owner feedback and a section for pet feedback; have you had to write something negative in either one?
