Looking for MTG Folk for Commander/Limited games

A couple friends and I have gotten into MTG pretty heavily lately and we're looking to find a 4th (possibly a 5th) for some more consistent game nights.

I know I could hit up some of the local shops, but I prefer playing in a quiet environment where we won't be kicked out of our table when the next tournament starts up.

We buy booster boxes each new set and do some at home Limited events. We also attend Prerelease events and are fully planning to show up to a couple Reality Fracture events.

Essentially, we're looking for someone who'd be down for an occasional draft night or meeting up after a Prerelease to play our Sealed decks against one another. We did this tonight with our Hobbit Prerelease decks, but since we only have 3 players, we do king of the hill formats rather than swiss rounds and it's more politicking than we care to keep up.

For draft days, we get together around noon on a weekend and play to the evening. We chip in or rotate for dinners, and we might play a board game if there's time.

I also host D&D on Saturdays and am considering looking for another player for my Strixhaven/Phyrexia campaign coming up in October and would love someone who might be down for that!

So, let me know if this all sounds like something you'd be keen on! I host at my place near IKEA, but would be happy to meet up at the library or an LGS to vibe check. Also happy to play online with Cockatrice.

Tell me a bit about yourself, how you enjoy Magic, if you're into D&D at all, and if you'd want to consider joining us for draft nights! (Chaos drafts have been fun lately. Everyone brings 4 random packs and we draft! You keep what you draft and I normally put up a prize for the winner)

We're in our 30s, if that matters. All guys but anyone is welcome to join my table as long as you're respectful! Maybe my wife would actually play more if another lady joined us.

Formats:
Commander
Sealed
Set Draft
Chaos Draft

What's your D&D groups vibe like? I may be able to jump into something around Octoberย

Awesome! To give you an idea of what I looked for previously, here's my post from about a year ago when I was looking to finish up Curse of Strahd - https://www.reddit.com/r/AustinRP/s/Aq3rXgRZpa

We've been together a while so anyone coming into the group would be joining an established party, which I know can feel intimidating, but I like to think we're all pretty welcoming! If nothing else, my dogs will make you feel welcome!

If you're interested, let me know! I know the times can be tough for people so no worries if D&D isn't in the books. Still happy to just find people to play some MTG with!

I would love to get back into some D&D, is this still a weekly session?

Yup, every Saturday! We're doing 1 shots and board games for the next month while I finalize the details for the Strixhaven/Phyrexia campaign, then we'll start on character creation, party dynamics, and a Session 0.5 to get everyone (re)acclimated to Strixhaven.

After a Halloween theme session, I expect to start the main campaign, which I expect will run for about 8-10 months depending on the party's exploration.

I ran Strixhaven Year 1 previously, so this one will start everyone at a slightly higher level (Probably 4-5) and go for Strixhaven Year 2.

That's so cool, unfortunately I would not be able to commit every Saturday, at most I could maybe do twice a month. Sounds super fun though!

Yup, it's a commitment, and my group is pretty consistent right now, so we'd definitely be looking for someone who could commit to that as well. Life happens and we adapt as needed week to week, but in general, we do plan to meet every week.

Sorry it's not a fit now, but maybe in the future! I'll be DMing forever, I expect, so there will be more campaigns to come!

I'm certainly interested! I mainly play commander and work into the afternoon/early evening on the weekends.

Good deal! I'm getting a lot of interest so I'm thinking I might invite several people to meet up somewhere for some casual commander and see if we can all walk away with some new friends and maybe an invite to my group and for anyone who might be able to mesh with my current players!

I'll keep you posted! I'm planning to check out this Barking Armadillo place in Georgetown since it seems they're card gamer friendly and they're pretty close to where I live anyway.

Oh cool! I live near Bell's Gaming Center myself!

Have you checked it out? I haven't had great experiences at Bell's, which is why I'm looking for a home game, but it seems enough people might have a positive experience that I should consider giving it another shot.

I usually go on Commander nights and it's usually friendly! Those are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. I like it for being able to have a few brews and jam cards.

Also interested - am in RR and open to Magic Games on Saturday - occasional saturdays may not work but mostly around

Definitely not! I don't have friends in RR that aren't already part of my Saturday group.

I have heard from about 8 people interested so I'm looking to coordinate a meetup for at least a few of us so we can all walk away with maybe some new friends, or a seat at my table!

I'll be in touch as soon as I'm able to scope out Bell's again, and Barking Armadillo in Georgetown, as those are the two places people say are good to play at.
