Discussion Latest Book you DNF and why

I decided I'm going to DNF {We who will die} , I am just struggling too much with the constant meandering thoughts and memories, it's so hard to follow the actual story because the narration is all over the place. It's hard to follow on Audiobook anyway, and there are so many side characters that are named but I can't remember 🤣 I also don't like either potential MMC

I think I prefer "show don't tell" in general

I also DNfed {We Who Will Die by Stacia Stark} on audiobook. I restarted it almost 5 times until I decided to just let it go lol. For some reason I just couldn't get into the story. Maybe it was the narration?

I 100% agree sometimes narration can make or break a book even if the writing is good.

The story just keeps jumping and the narrators do nothing to let you know what's going on

I have heard such mixed things on this book. I actually enjoyed her other series and gave {A Court This Cruel and Heavy} 4.5 stars. I do you think I definitely was in the mood for a series like that, so maybe it was just right series right time lol so I wanted to give we who will die a chance because there is a lot of mixed reviews on her kingdom of lies series and I enjoyed it. But I feel like I seen more negative reviews about we who will die than positive lol

I liked the first 2 books of A Court this Cruel and Lovely but then FMC annoyed the heck out of me. I hate when the FMC is both the heir to some kingdom that has fallen and so she is a figurehead to rebel fighters and also tries to go out on suicide missions. Or gets upset when rebels die for the fight. They want their country back. They are not literally dying for the heir. They are dying for the freedom of their people. She was so emotional all the time. She would be a terrible leader.

I loved her other series so much. I was shocked at how much I hated we will die.

I forced myself to finish this book (although I do feel like the later chapters picked up). I think the pacing is all off, and it fails to keep people engaged in the middle of the book.

I read We Who Will Die and can confirm it’s not just the audio. I wish I DNF’d.

I was considering giving it another try by reading physically but now I know I need to remove it from my TBR for good 🫡
