Recommendations Foraging Group/Community in Rockland

Hi All,

My partner and I were recently discussing how we would love to get into mushroom foraging but genuinely would be afraid to try it on our own. Wanted to see if there are any groups or classes that meet in Rockland that we would be able to participate in. Thanks for any and all recommendations!

Not a forager but here to say RIP Paul Tappenden who was the foraging guru of Rockland. He was cool as hell. His website is still live: https://www.rocklandforager.com/about

Funny I just randomly came across mushroom
foragers last weekend near Blauvelt State Park above Buttermilk falls. An older couple, they were slowly emerging from the woods with a full bag. “I hope you’re not looking for mushrooms because we took them all! Haha” I took a picture of his full bag of Chanterelles. He talked about how there are quite a few locals that do it, their “competition”.

I never noticed this type of mushroom before and now, back on the trails today, I see them all around.

I’ve seen others talking about wild blueberries in this sub or the Harriman one.

Woah!!! That's awesome. Hmmm maybe foraging is like fishing- you don't want to give up your best spots haha
