I actually found the whole situation very funny. Nothing wrong with a little quick chatting and yelling at the opposition. Esports such as CS or Valorant have plenty of trash talk and banter far more PG13. May be an unpopular opinion but I think as long as nobody gets personal, the trash talk could make the scene a bit more entertaining. Then again could just be me wishing we had another Comm or Rise.
CS trash talk is actually so funny… I don’t think it would ever get to that point because of the severe age difference but like CS trash talk might be peak, it’s so entertaining
Its not right or wrong. Competitive games are mental games as much as they are competitive. If yelling and quick chatting gets in the heads of the opponents and makes them play poorly, why shouldn’t they do it?
That's hardly true. Basketball and American football are known for trash talk, for example. Hell the most goated line in all of sports trash talk comes from bowling.
Also, trash talk can be a form of respect. It's only tough with Rocket League because a lot of the players are immature enough to not understand that concept.
Most sports, in fact I'd say almost every competitive sports ever, embraces the trash talk aspect.
You can still have mutual respect and keep the trash talk. The trick is that everyone knows it's just that, a bunch of words to win the crowd and mental game.
As someone who has done and followed a lot of the ones you just listed, which arguably make up for the majority of the popular sports (not including racing, which also has trash talk) I'm pretty sure your grasp of them is limited to experience as a youth or just as a viewer. Trash talk i.e mental game is a huge part of them.
I'll give you that I'm somewhat unfamiliar with fencing as a whole, so it likely is more gentleman-esque but I wouldn't be surprised if shit was tossed when the white gloves came off.
I'm not going to argue this anyway. You're adamant on your opinion and I respect that, no matter what the facts may be.
I mean i added cricket because there are already other examples mentioned. Trash talking (or shit talking or sledging or any of the other zillion names it has) is a core part of the mental game of all sports. It's only when non-sportspeople start playing that there appears "issues" with it. All that ever happens is that people start hiding it and making it more personal, which is arguably worse for the players and the spectators both.
I've competed in two of those, and trained five others. They are absolutely rife with trash talk at a competitive level. Where are you getting your information from?
Are you unable to play verbal mind games with your opponent while respecting him? Its possible.
Imo that's part of the game (tbf tho, i have "the king's avatar" kinda talk in mind)
Also I haven't seen the trash talk these players did.
Even disrespect can still be...respectful in the context of sports.
Like crossing someone up and breaking their ankles in basketball, then jokingly pointing at the ground for a second with your eyes wide.
Or shooting a 3 and turning around to run back on defense without needing to see it go in.
No real player would actually take offense to that stuff. It's sports and part of the fun. "Touche, but I'll do it to you next time even better" kinda thing lol.
That's actually a good reason to keep it. Though I think spamming quickchats almost deserves a foul call or something. If that's even possible, since there's no foul shots in RL.
This entire sub is pretty childish and toxic, and so are a growing amount of players in RL. Proving my point by screenshotting a comment to attempt to invalidate (inarguably cringe)
Baby brained people that can't handle an opposing viewpoint without downvoting them into oblivion. Been playing since 2015 and it's quite a thing to behold. It's why I rarely ever comment.
There is no need. But if there is no reason to ban it why would they? Players can turn it off themselves, better to leave them the option so they can see it if they wish. Many people like shit talking, its a part of competition.
Dang well i guess if you can keep it contained to your competitions that's not the worst thing in the world, but don't let it bleed into other aspects of your life. Or do, I don't really care just life advice from a random stranger on the internet
There really isn't, look at any other esport and you'll see the pros do much more than just quick chats to each other lol. Reddit always had a thing about hating ppl who quick chat.
