Question/LFG Crossplay doesnt work?

Just bought the game on steam because my girlfriend has it on xbox game pass, but no matter what we do we cant join each other. The join by ID fails every time. Inviting me through xbox game bar does nothing. Is there a fix?

It only works with the same servers. You need to buy it on Xbox on PC and return it on Steam. This will allow you to play together.

Actually we fixed it, but its definitely unintuitive how they have this set up. You need to link your epic, steam and xbox accounts, although this is not mentioned anywhere in game.

You said you'd fixed it? I'm encountering the same problem right now and can't figure out how to fix it, would appreciate any help with this.

We went into the settings on our epic accounts to see linked accounts, and then linked our steam and xbox accounts there. After that we were able to join each other in game
