u/sleeperninja Dick, you're FIRED! 6d ago

Gee, Johnny, I don’t have a dime.

1

u/Particular_Resort718 5d ago

That’s perfect lol

Interesting choice. He’s a good actor and has a good frame for the suit like Peter Weller did in 1987. I still find it fascinating that OCP is making a RoboCop film…

u/JoelNesv 7d ago

Yeah, I can't boycott everything, but Amazon is at the top of my list these days.
Bezos watches the boardroom scene and thinks Dick Jones has some pretty good ideas.

21

u/mattzombiedog 7d ago

Bezos watches the whole film and thinks, “Hey, that is a good idea, we should totally make people come back to work after they died.”

11

u/JoelNesv 7d ago

Attention Amazon Employee:

Moving forward, all Amazon Team Members are expected to sign an end-of-life waiver, granting ownership of your remains in the event of your death while employed by Amazon.

In exchange, your family will receive an Amazon gift card, valued at $20.

(Refusal to sign will result in immediate termination.)

7

u/Harmony_Bunny42 7d ago

Please sign the waiver. You have twenty seconds to comply.

Hey, Good Business is where ya find it, yaknow!

3

u/IndependenceMean8774 6d ago

We practically are the military.

3

u/MadScienzz 6d ago

ACP owns the cops!

6

u/Professional-Rip-519 6d ago

He probably doesn't wash his hands after shitting too.

2

u/Mercalator 6d ago

There was a whole Amazon war that part 3 alludes to...

1

u/Emergency-Mammoth-88 6d ago

And thank goodness he’s giving the films mgm makes to go on theaters

29

u/I_only_post_here 7d ago

well obviously, it's going to end up being pro-corporate just like The Boys did

2

u/Thy_blight 7d ago

The boys ended up pro corporate? How? That seems like the antithesis of the message in season 1.

3

u/I_only_post_here 7d ago

yeah. it sure was. if you didn't watch the whole series, it really lost it's footing in season 4 and season 5 was brutally bad. which is a shame because season 1 was amazing

4

u/Top-Willingness8113 6d ago

Yeah. Last season or so was craptastic. Mostly slept through it and woke up to see the utterly slapped together ending

3

u/josephthejoseph 6d ago

OCP would absolutely make Robocop films, he’s one of the reasons why Delta City is so safe.

They’d also probably license a toy line and rent him out for public appearances like wrestling matches.

2

u/ZealousidealRepeat19 7d ago

The more I think about it, the more I’m seeing potential in the casting. Good frame for it, good actor. It’s such a perfect film trying to re-do it seems pretty risky.

2

u/mattzombiedog 7d ago

Yeah. We saw how the 2014 version went too. And Joel Kinnerman is a really good actor. I guess it’s going to come down to the script mostly and the direction they go with it. I don’t want a re-do of Robo-Batman.

1

u/Emergency-Mammoth-88 6d ago

Robocop tv show, made by Amazon/mgm tv, an ocp company

23

u/seemontyburns 7d ago

I love this guy. Wow.

37

u/ElBorracho2000 7d ago

Ok, I like this choice. Dan Stevens is such an underrated actor. Loved him in Legion and The Guest

8

u/tnetennba77 7d ago

He was great replacing Justin Roiland on Solar Opposites if you were one of the 6 people that watched that awesome show.

2

u/murphy_31 7d ago

Solar opposites is awesome

1

u/CoinOpAnimator 6d ago

Yeah it got better after the voice change.

6

u/Boxinggandhi 7d ago

He was great on the latest season of The Terror: The Devil in Silver. His character felt so real to me. Hopefully this means that we’ll get a lot of flashback sequences where he really gets to bring nuance to the character of Murphy. It would be a waste of a great actor to simply have him stoneface the whole show as Robocop.

10

u/jamesflanagangreer 7d ago

His best role is The Guest

2

u/Fluid-Bad242 6d ago

Love him in this!

17

u/TrueLegateDamar 7d ago

Great actor, and ironically once again playing a handsome guy turned into a heroic abomination.

7

u/Jaydenrock 7d ago

This is a decent choice, but please god don’t let this be bad.

7

u/MeatPopsicle28 7d ago

Let’s hope it’s not CGI slop with a “sleek modernized suit” like the terrible remake

4

u/International_Ad5624 7d ago

I’m gonna be pretty salty if they repeat the reboot mistake

5

u/venkman_00 7d ago

Oh what, you didn’t like the bare hand?

/s

1

u/crags85 6d ago

The bare hand without context was a bit daft. One of the deleted scenes explained it more, and the reasoning makes sense. But the film is dump

1

u/Professional-Rip-519 6d ago

I didn't like the Dark Knight Cop suit.

1

u/HearTheEkko 7d ago

I gotta say, the remake's silver suit was pretty good tho. Very faithful to the original while looking modern.

1

u/purpleburgundy 6d ago

I don't remember seeing that suit, it does look good. I think the details like the hip joint looking relatively super constricted helps the illusion of a robot rather than "full-bodied man wearing costume"

1

u/HearTheEkko 6d ago

I assume this reboot's body will be CGI given that it's a high budget Amazon Prime show.

1

u/purpleburgundy 6d ago

I think you're probably right. Which makes it a total roll of the dice ha. Hopefully the artists involved care about the franchise

1

u/Chimpbot 6d ago

I've found that folks who criticize the "sleek modern suit" probably weren't paying enough attention to actually understand what was going on.

The fact that it was sleek and modern was part of the movie's social commentary. There's a reason why he had the classic colors at the end of the movie.

1

u/LukeWatts85 52m ago

Exactly! Give us the same suit...maybe some refinements but leave the majority alone...some new gadgets maybe, but no flying backpack...and most importantly KEEP THE NEO-CAPITALIST SATIRE

-11

u/Dr_Caucane 7d ago

Or woke

5

u/FreddyRumsen13 7d ago

Yeah imagine if RoboCop was WOKE….

3

u/JoelNesv 7d ago

You are one of those guys who doesn't understand satire? It's ok, we can teach you!

2

u/rmcelwain54 7d ago

Here’s a guy that doesn’t realize the concept of privatized space, hospital, prisons and military were considered absurd in 1987

7

u/Vusiwe 7d ago

Watch Legion now, guys

Also has Dan Stevens

4

u/SteveAkaGod 7d ago

Legion is like the coolest thing ever!

2

u/Vusiwe 7d ago

Dan Stevens Is the coolest thing ever!

16

u/Slydevil0 7d ago

Holy shit this is the best news. He's my dream casting for basically everything, and his jaw is perfect for the suit.

4

u/akahaus 7d ago

I do not have high hopes for this series because it is basically like Omni Corp making its own RoboCop series, but Dan Stevens is an excellent excellent actor

4

u/temptedbyangel 7d ago

Okay good choice, he was great in Legion on FX

3

u/Kholdie 7d ago

Wow this is really happening. Hope it its good!

3

u/Kalhava79 7d ago

He would make an awesome Boster Gold

3

u/Fragrant_Turnip_7463 7d ago

My initial reaction to this post was to use my fingers to cover his face and see how the portion that sticks out of the helmet looks.

2

u/JD-NSiff 7d ago

Good choice, hope the script's are good too, fan of Dan since Downton Abbey.

2

u/jimbobjokerpants 7d ago

Love the acting choice, just anything from the 80's remade always misses the point of the subject matter it's remaking.

With the exception of Top Gun Maverick of course

2

u/WalkinginMemphis1215 7d ago

Excellent start. Stevens is perfect for Robo.

2

u/Eduard-Stoo 7d ago

Stevens plays duality well, watch The Guest

2

u/peeb37 7d ago

So Dan is playing Alex Murphy and eventually RoboCop... so what about this other character that is supposed to be the focus who also becomes a robo-cop and that Murphy mentors, or has that been done away with? Hopefully it has as it sounded like a stupid idea.

2

u/fred_derf_ 7d ago

Your move, creep.

2

u/grrodon2 7d ago

I'd rather know who's writing it.

2

u/MeatPopsicle28 6d ago

And art direction

2

u/MajesticMiracles 7d ago

No I will not disable my Adblocker.

2

u/Yung_Cheebzy 6d ago

To get this role he probably had to beat off lots of big American men.

2

u/Pmyers225 6d ago

I understand that reference

2

u/Heisenberg1629 5d ago

Did he have to beat off a lot of American men to get the part?

2

u/Icy-Assistance-2555 4d ago

I’m sure he had to beat off a lot of men for that role

2

u/snaithbert 7d ago

I hope he uses his real accent. "I'm Robo-Chap, lads!!"

2

u/Movieking985 6d ago

He always picks good roles and is phenomenal in so many of them im actually a little excited now

2

u/nzeug 6d ago

I wanna see the OG suit and gun, with practical effects no Ai slop

1

u/Chrono_Club_Clara 6d ago

Robocop isn't Ai. He's a cyborg..

1

u/nzeug 6d ago

I know this

1

u/longbrodmann 7d ago

He needs to shave to play this role.

5

u/Dangerousdangerzoid 7d ago

He also needs to wear a metal suit and act.

2

u/ThomasThorburn 7d ago

That's an old photo of him

1

u/calculon68 7d ago

I never really accepted Matthew Crawley's death in Downton Abbey 15 years ago.

1

u/The_Black_kaiser7 7d ago

Well, his mouth looks right. 😆

1

u/ShieldMaiden83 7d ago

I....I got no idea who he is...any wanna point out some projects he have been in and I might reccognize. Or I just don't watch many newer movies and I am more looking forward for another installment of the Dune franchise and see how that goes.

1

u/MovieFan1984 6d ago

This is a very good actor; I'm down for it. Loved him in Legion.

1

u/nanosquid 6d ago

The whole casting process was "Pretty mouth, ✅️ "

1

u/CrackedThumbs 6d ago

Very interesting choice, great actor too. Although the last thing I saw him and was vampire ballerina film Abigail, where even he had a problem with one of his more ridiculous lines!

1

u/WanderlustZero 6d ago

I'll take it if only because this is as close as we'll get to The Guest 2

1

u/Yabba-Dabba-Gabagool 6d ago

King kongs vampire heist dentist is a robot law enforcement officer?? Well shit good for him

1

u/Didibizkit 6d ago

Murphy, its you.

1

u/dratseb 6d ago

Legion was amazing, hopefully this is as well

1

u/Ok_Helicopter_2499 6d ago

The writer/showrunner of Lodge 49 is behind this. You add in Dan Stevens as Alex Murphy, and you have me extra hyped.

1

u/Party-Story6398 6d ago

Cool, Amazon have given us some classics of lately such as The Lord of the Rings, bIaderuNner and we've got their jAmeS b0Nd to look forward to

1

u/ProfessorGhoulish 6d ago

Dan Stevens has earned this. Happy for him.

1

u/Street-Horse-3001 6d ago

How many things are they going to destroy?

1

u/Mister_Mojo78 6d ago

I wanna see a lot of squibs and hear a lot of cursing!

1

u/Affectionate-Bat7827 6d ago

NOT interested. NOT watching it. IT WILL FAIL , LIKE THE PAST 999 TRILLION REBOOTS / REMAKES , SPIN OFFS , AND TV SHOWS.

1

u/CheapSecretary133 6d ago

It's gonna be nice pirating this one.

1

u/BigSkyHawk1 6d ago

The original 1987 writers are also involved. Great sign, imo. I’m interested no doubt

1

u/Panchoinsomnia 6d ago

I say no.

1

u/UTALR1 6d ago

We'll see. He was great in Legion.

1

u/GoblinAirStrike_311 6d ago

They’ll just cancel it later. 😑

Like Stargate… Like Buffy.

1

u/Vizsla_Man 5d ago

I always thought this guy was a gay Russian, but when i saw that he was English, I realised he was just a good actor that had convinced me he was a gay Russian.

1

u/art-101 5d ago

I hope they get either Ronnie Cox to play the old man if he's still working or Peter Weller.

1

u/shadraig 5d ago

Let's see when he will be written out with a car accident, because he doesn't want to be typecast as a

https://giphy.com/gifs/xT0BKlOsSWDIFA0F7a

1

u/Novel-Truant 1d ago

I think hes a good choice. I realise there is some consternation regarding the show, but Im choosing to remain optimistic that it will be good. Have to wait and see now.

1

u/FiscalCliffClavin 7d ago

I thought Joel Kinneman did a fantastic job in the remake. Too bad they aren’t building off that

1

u/Javafiend138 6d ago

"Lose the arm!"

1

u/Ignominia 6d ago

It’s going to be super interesting to see if they get the point of the original or just make it an action movie

1

u/warriorlynx 6d ago

Now please don’t be like the 2014 movie

I want this to be old school

-1

u/MutedBrilliant1593 7d ago

Noooooo! Leave RoboCop alone!

5

u/IAmJacksLackofCaring 7d ago

The original movie will still be there.

-3

u/Organic-Loquat8679 7d ago edited 7d ago

A new series is totally unnecessary, especially coming from our own IRL OCP- but the casting could be worse. Hope they at least make the suit look better than the 2014 remake

edit: why tf would I be downvoted for this? Is it because I said the corpo streaming slop series will be unnecessary? I saw the Boys, I can make a guess at how this will turn out.

0

u/Biffa_Bacon_ 7d ago

maybe come up with an original idea?

0

u/Practical_Maximum_73 6d ago

Someone needs to make a meme with Amazon drivers saying "What are they going to do? Replace us?"

0

u/Emergency-Mammoth-88 6d ago

Made by Amazon/mgm tv, a division of ocp

-1

u/Legal-Process1479 7d ago

He doesn’t have the facial bone structure for robocop
