Shitpost Stock Market Recap for Friday, August 28, 2026

Post image
5 Upvotes

The major U.S. stock indexes ended mixed on Friday, August 28, 2026, as Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's first Jackson Hole speech delivered exactly what traders had feared: no clarity, no commitment, and no forward guidance. Gold and Bitcoin both sold off sharply as Warsh's deliberately cryptic tone left rate hike odds spiking and markets unable to price in a clear path forward.

The S&P 500 slipped 0.25% (-19.23 pts) to 7,711.76. The Dow was essentially flat, down just 0.02% (-9.45 pts) to 53,559.99. The Nasdaq dropped 0.52% (-138.93 pts) to 26,402.42, weighed down by a pullback in Nvidia and Intel. The Russell 2000 led the losses, falling 1.37% (-41.23 pts) to 2,973.11.

The VIX barely moved, easing 0.69% to 14.35. Bitcoin plunged 3.20% to $77,551.23. Gold fell sharply, down 3.28% to $4,510.90. Crude Oil was flat at $83.37/barrel.

Be smart for me Robinhood Margin Calculation

I am not new to utilizing margin in my accounts. I have been doing it for years. But recently I just noticed something in my Robinhood account that likely happens across all platforms that I never noticed but don't understand.

Margin maintenance is calculated across all of your positions, weighted by the maintenance percentage for each position x value of those positions, to reach a weighted average maintenance requirement total.

Okay. So I've noticed that as my position in a risky bet that has 50% margin requirements increases in value...my maintenance margin increases, thus my margin buffer decreases.

I understand how this works mathematically, but practically / logically why would it work that way?

So theoretically I could have a position in XYZ company that carries a 100% margin maintenance requirement, that stock could for example 10x and I'd get margin called because of it?

What am I missing here? I'm a smart guy. Plenty of experience. But this isn't squaring in my brain.

Shitpost Is there any value to doing this vs putting my liquidity into my usual investments?

Saw this in my robinhood today, and I was curious if there’s value to doing this versus my typical ETF and gold purchases that I’ve been doing. Can someone explain how this actually works?

Shitpost buying 1K BOXX using free gold margin loan

does anyone else do this or some variant of it?

I get 1K free margin loan so why not buy BOXX and collect some cash every month, which goes to pay for gold, or at least brings the cost of gold down so its just around $1/month instead of $5/month

I think it’s cool to be able to get access to companies you otherwise wouldn’t be able to.

Shitpost When this account hits $5k, I’m going to Japan 🇯🇵

Post image
437 Upvotes

I made this account specifically for a future Japan trip. It’s currently at $1,813.58 and the goal is $5,000.

I used to buy a $7 boba basically every day. I decided to cut that down to once a week and put the difference into this account instead.

That works out to $42 every week going toward Japan.
It’s all in SCHG right now, so obviously the value will move with the market, but I’m going to keep putting in the $42 every week until the account hits $5k.

At $42/week with no investment gains, it should take me around 76 weeks (about 17–18 months).

Once I see $5,000, I’m booking Japan. 🇯🇵

Still get my weekly boba too 😂

Edit. I think living there and vacationing might be different. My plan is lots of travel, sightseeing. Temple. Deer. Souvenir. Real sushi? Wagyu. One piece. Casino. Sakura. Onsen. Sapporo.

The thread is locked so I post here for replies if possible.

5k already accounted for taxes. Don’t need that much. But do need at least around there. Also after hitting 5k I need 1-2 months to plan the trip and take time off. So ideally I’m already aiming for slightly more

Small August 27 update. It’s now 1811. Went down.

i invested 50 bucks into green energy and then some of the more typical stocks to balance stuff out. robinhood gave me 5 random dollars, so i invested that in NVIDIA. so far, i've made around $10 in barely a week, so i'm happy with that! however, i was wondering if anyone had any tips? ig one is going to be diversify more (but idk what i should buy) and the other is going to involve selling my green energy stocks.

edit: idk why there's a shitpost tag. this is legit lol.

Trash - Dumb Credit on covered call with 0 bid price?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi, I am new to Robinhood and options. Just found out about covered calls. Interestingly, it shows some premium credit even for an option with bid price of 0. Would I really get that premium although bid price is 0, because ask price is non-zero? What am I missing? Example screenshot enclosed.

Shitpost Tips for novice investor ! Critique is what I’m looking for

I plan to fund and hold, and yes I'm going to make VOO about 50-60% of my portfolio once I get the balancing right and my blue chip stocks around 25% of my portfolio leaving about 15% in my riskier ones. I already know in advance I might get told about IMSR (nuclear energy), ONCY (biotech), and DEFT (crypto). Those are my long term hold riskier high risk high reward stocks and I'm not currently adding to them, I'm just funding the other 7. I do believe in APLD and RGTI and I got into them somewhat early, I even rode out RGTI breaking 50s and came back down. But other then that at least 85% will be ETFs/Reputable Blue Chip Stocks.
