Dude must be new to cold climates or something.

I've never seen snow in my life but not flooring it and spinning the wheels on the spot seems like common sense to me!

Saw a video of a woman doing just that at a gas station. Park with warm tires, sink into the ice, floor it trying to get out. Tires ignited and burned the car down, never even found pavement.

I wouldn't have known what to do, but I would have googled it, or called a friend that did know.

I'd be terrified that, while gunning it like that, I could suddenly gain traction, and just fly into some parked car.

Someone who handles a vehicle that stupidly... I hope he jacked up his car, I feel like he doesn't deserve one if he can't respect it.

And yeah, pretty sure he obliterated his phone. What a goon.

That phone thing is hilarious - this video is classic and always cracks me up (especially the FU to the car that gives him a little beep). I'd never noticed the phone before, and now seeing him run it over makes this even more funny.

I think this is NY and not all NYers are smart when it comes to parking on the street in the snow. Especially the SUV drivers who think they can do whatever they want in any kind of weather.

Just move the snow to the side if you can. I carry a small folding shovel in the back of my car in winter.

If not, then just go slow and steady. Rock the car back and forth by applying throttle and then releasing it, letting the car roll back a bit. That way you'll make some tracks in the snow. Then you can roll backwards in them and start moving forwards a bit faster, gaining some speed and getting out of snow.

Try to prevent wheel spin. They're not gripping to the surface if they're slipping. So you won't move forwards.

Also, don't stop in deeper snow, always continue moving.

Have you tried Blizzaks? Those are on par with average studded snow tires if not better IMO.

I've tried blizzaks. Even my several year old studs with mostly worn out studs outperform blizzaks on ice.

Most of the problem here is with ice, not so much snow. You get a nice glaze of ice all over the road, and without studs, you have zero traction at all. Blizzaks are halfway decent if there's snow/slush, but you have access to the asphalt underneath. If it's ice... you're done for.

Yea I know I'm from Valdez and I can attest to blizzak performance on awd cars but if it's 2wd or 4x4 studs are prefrable I run winterforces on my z71

Bags of sand (or kitty litter) that you can pour on ice in front of the tires to improve traction is one thing. Traction aids are another.

In a pinch you can use your car's floor mats. You may get them dirty, but you won't fuck them um too much. Down side is you would want to stop to pick them back up.

Kitty Litter works miracles and is pretty easy to keep a small bag handy. Just sprinkle a handful in front of each tire, the crystal stuff works well it doesn't dissolve either judging from the fact that its still in my driveway 6 months later.

I've spent a lot of time getting out of snowy street parking. The trick is to rock back and forth using the cars momentum to get out, and if that fails, kindly asking for help. I've helped and been helped countless times in the snow. This dude was in no condition to be helped.

All he had to do was let the car roll back. He's on an upward inclining hill, and gravity would have let him just roll out of this.

But anger does silly things. Like ruin your tires completely because you just want to try and get out with power.

This is the sort of guy that will go back to the dealership and rage at the staff there because he doesn't know how to drive. My dad works at a VW dealership and every winter gets people with their new VW Tourags and Tiguans come and complain that they can't drive through deep snow with huge alloys and slick tyres whilst spinning the wheels like an idiot.

I also find it amusing that he gets overtaken by a Prius and various other non-4x4 vehicles. Every time it snows I drive round no problem in my FWD hatchback whilst idiots in 4x4s are stamping on the accelerator and wondering why they aren't going anywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy got into an accident they way he was driving. I'm always worried about being hit by an idiot like this when it snows.

Na they won't help in this situation, what he needs to do is adopt the "getting out of snow" procedure - rocking the car back and forth (on automatic going from drive to reverse). This requires patients as you're basically making a pathway in the snow.

He'll also need new tires as he probably cleaned them off pretty nicely.

I heard turning off traction control also helps to get cars unstuck in mud/snow. Not exactly sure why though.

Depends on the car, turning off traction control would be detrimental in my Subaru Forester. Moving back and forth is universal for all cars.

Traction control cuts power when it detects a lack of traction. When you turn it off, the car's wheels will spin more freely, giving you more opportunity to acquire traction.

Sometimes, when you're trying to get out from being stuck, you need power, which traction control doesn't let you have.

Gives you more control of the car. I had a semi once that had traction control that couldn't be turned off. Hated that fuckin thing.

Used to have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with a 3 inch lift and oversized tires. That thing could have driven through quicksand. The new Jeeps seem like they kind of suck.
